Book Review: Planet Sasquatch Retaliation by Eric S Brown

The first mission to Lancaster's World was a failure. All of its personnel were slaughtered by the Sasquatch beasts who call the planet home. The Earth Republic, pushed to its limits by the ongoing war with the Coalition of Outer Planets, has no choice but to return. The resources the planet holds could be the key to turning the tide of the war with the Coalition and give the Republic the means to strike back at its enemy's homeworld. This time, it will be the beasts who do the dying. Drake and several transports worth of highly trained and well-armed soldiers under his command plan to make the beasts pay, in blood, and claim Lancaster's World for the Republic once and for all.

My Review:
Drake is now leading the troops in a second mission to Lancaster's World after the previous disaster ensured that Ryan wanted nothing to do with the mission. The mission is vital for the winning of the war against the coalition and this time, the marines are going in a force to kill as many Sasquatch as they can to allow future mining to go ahead. The squad leaders prepare their teams and hustle out onto the planet to start looking for the enemy but the beasts are already waiting for them.

We get the first 26 pages covering a bit of history about why they need the resources from the planet and the end of the journey there. After that we jump right into the battle between man and Sasquatch with the usual bloody results. It is fun to follow the different groups of soldiers in the jungle as all hell starts to break loose around them and see what plans each of them try to execute to survive against the hairy enemy. Drake especially is an interesting character and certainly is able to adapt better to what happens around him.

I liked this one a bit more than the first Planet Sasaquatch because of the amount of action in it.
Read April 2017.
