Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish in June 2010. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!  http://www.brokeandbookish.com/

This week we have Ten Best Books You've Read so far in 2017. Yes I can manage this one. Narrowing it down to ten is going to be impossible!!!

1) George RR Martin-A Game of Thrones
We delve into the Starks v the Lannisters and how it turned bloody, Jon Snow arriving at the Wall to discover what it is really like, Ned trying to investigate Jon Arryn's murder and discovering the secret that will be fatal to his family. Great detail with switching POVs.

2) George RR Martin-A Clash of Kings
This book looks at those vying for the Iron Throne with Stannis taking on Renly and Joffrey, Arya being captured, Tyrion's battle plans to save King's Landing, Theon's betrayal and the Battle of the Blackwater. Wonderful detail on all the fighting.

3) Glynn James/Michael Stephen Fuchs-Exodus (Arisen #5)
Quite possibly THE greatest zombie book EVER! I love this whole action packed zombiefest series but this book has the amazing battle of men v zombies in the Battle of the JFK. I wanted to give this book ten stars! If you love zombies you must try this series!

4) Kevin Hearne-Hexed (Iron Druid #2)
I love this mythology steeped urban fantasy. There are fighting witches, religious fanatics with psycho beards, inappropriate vampire, long suffering werewolf, Indian goddess/demon, Celtic goddesses and Oberon decides to become a hippy. Funny, crazy, best of the series.

5) Rachel Caine-Lord of Misrule (Morganville Vampires #5)
I've enjoyed this series but this is my favourite so far. Claire and her friends join forces with the town vampires to take on a new vampire who wants to take over Morganville. This was high octane and I liked enemies becoming allies.

6) Nicholas Sansbury Smith-ExtinctionEdge (Extinction Horizon #2)
This is also one of my favourite series and I gave them all five stars. I liked this one though as it stepped up the madness and we see the zombie like people beginning to mutate into scary creatures. Tons of exciting action. Love it!

7) Hunter Shea-Swamp Monster Massacre
A group of tourists on a swamp tour survive the crash but have killed a young skunk ape. The Sasquatch family are very angry and start to chase the humans through the deadly swamp, determined to kill them all. Good gory fun!

8) Jack Kilborn-Trapped
Two social workers take their charges on a camping trip to an island that used to be a civil war prison. Now it has a population of hungry cannibals, a mad doctor who experiments on humans and his horrific creations! Fast paced gory torturefest!

9) Sonya Bateman-Wrong Side of Hell
Gideon rescues a werewolf and discovers that he is half Fey, can force the dead to speak to him truthfully and is wanted by a psycho cult that tortures supernaturals. This was a funny, action packed UF with a great mix of characters including a bogeyman.

10) Joe Pike-Project Fear
A look behind the scenes of the warring 'No' campaign during the 2014 Scottish Independence Referendum. This is the kind of political book I enjoy with the chaos, the backstabbing and the bitching as things fall apart!

    1. Those are the best two zombie series I've read...you just never know what twist or mission is coming next! Trapped is your typical gory horror which of course I enjoyed. No timewasting, just straight into the story!

    1. Can you believe that I just watched GoT for the first time in October last year?! I was so worried I wouldn't like it but now I'm obsessed! I'm kind of itching to read the rest but you know the size of the things...they take so long to read! Hopefully I'll get to the next one in August as a birthday treat! Thanks for stopping by!

    1. As soon as I started the GoT books I was just addicted! I'd have loved to just keep reading them but they take up so much time when you have a shedload of books to read! I love Kevin Hearne's books...I want my own Oberon!!!

  5. Glad to see The Wrong Side of Hell on here because I know I have that one on my TBR. No surprise seeing the GoT books at all :) So glad Oberon made the list!

    1. Wrong side of hell was good. Interesting plot, plenty action, bit of humour and good characters. Not much else needed for a good UF book! I really like Sonya Bateman as an author. Ah Oberon just HAD to be on the list!

  6. I want to read the Game of Thrones books, but I’m hesitant because they’re huge, and because I’m not convinced that the author will ever finish the series. I’m glad you liked them, though!

    1. It took me a week to read each one which is a bit horrific! It does slow your reading down for getting other books read but I did love both of them and I want to get onto the next one. Next month is for new authors so I need to wait for August. A lot of GoT fans are worried that he won't finish the series. When we eventually get The Winds of Winter I dread to think how long we'll wait for the last one!

  7. I have both AGoT and ACoK on my list too! They are absolutely brilliant! You're page is so much fun, btw. I can't stop watching the little firework flashies. Love it!

    1. I kind of got bored with the snowflakes earlier this year so switched to the fireworks which I can keep all year! The GoT books were so good, I just want to binge of them but need to get other reading done first! I can't find your list...I'm getting a forbidden message with Chinese writing clicking your blog link on G+ and nothing showing on bloglovin which is weird! I'll keep trying though!

  10. Nice choices! I'm kind of ashamed I haven't read any of the Game of Thrones books yet but I do watch the show. Those books are just extremely intimidating! I really want to read the Iron Druid series, though! I've heard great things!

    1. I only started watching GoT in October but I binge watched the dvds and couldn't resist the books! Now I just want to get caught up with the rest of the books. Not long to wait for season seven now...!

  11. Project Fear sounds quite interesting. I like books like that because of how much detail they can get into. If you only read the news for a few minutes a day, it's really easy to miss stuff.

  12. Great list. Both Hexed and Arisen sound like books (and series) that I need to check out. 'Cause urban fantasy is always fun and I do love a good zombie read. :)

    1. Nothing like a bit of zombie to get the blood pumping! There is good humour and lots of action in the Iron Druid series and fun mythology. I certainly recommend both!

  13. I have several of these on my tbr list. Game of Thrones is one that I really want to read as is the Kevin Hearne series. Trapped sounds pretty awesome too!

    1. I wish we could get some news on The Winds of Winter. When it comes out we then know he's on the final book at last. Now long until season seven! Trapped is a great horror read and I just love the Iron Druid series. Can't believe it is almost finished!

  14. I always have trouble with these lists too, because OMG how can I possibly narrow it down!? You have some great stuff here though. I've only read a few like Hexed and the ASOIAF series, but they're awesome books.

  18. I only managed to narrow mine down to ten by going for the five star books first, then just picking the first few four stars in order! It's been a good year for both of us.
