Book Review: Planet Sasquatch by Eric S Brown

The Earth Republic has seen better days . . . Recovering from a near decisive attack on the Earth by the forces of the Coalition and desperate to take the war to the enemy, the Earth Republic turns its attention to a strange planet named Lancaster's World. This planet contains resources the Republic must have in order to keep their damaged and war-weary fleet active, but obtaining them may come at too high a price. An expedition is launched to Lancaster's World to lay claim to the planet and set up a mining operation on its surface. Unfortunately for them, the planet is already inhabited . . . and its inhabitants may prove to be more than even the heavily-armed marines accompanying the expedition can handle. Drawing on elements from Bigfoot War 1 - 4, and taking the series in a bold new direction, Bigfoot War 5: Planet Sasquatch is a must-read for fans of the series and anyone else who has been fascinated by the mysterious beast known as Bigfoot.

My Review:
Captain Ryan leads the space fleet to Lancaster's World, where mining will begin for Tribaritan that is necessary to power their stardrives, unaware that the planet is already home to an aggressive group of Sasquatches. With radio interference hampering communications, and power levels dropping quicker than expected, the troops escorting the mining ships set up a perimeter and send out their first patrol to get an idea of where they have landed. Then they find the big footprint...

The advance team don't allow the scientist more than a basic look at the footprint which she identifies as a Sasquatch but they do stop to look at an abandoned and crippled ship, taking a look at the ship log which details a Sasquatch attack on the crew. Now the team have to get back to base and report that the planet is full of hostile life forms before the Sasquatch decide to attack...

I'm not generally a space plot fan but I'm happy to read them if the planet is full of dinosaurs or Sasquatch! This was a decent story though it took a little longer to get to the actual monster attacks. Just as exciting and gory when the action kicks off so that keeps me happy.

Read April 2017.

  1. I am loving some of these covers. Like these people think their problems are over if they tackle that big sasquatch...they don't notice the others lurking in the background. Glad you enjoyed this one!

  4. Looks like a great read. I love action and gore and creatures. I am hit and miss with scifi, but open to giving them a shot, especially with a cover like that. :-)

    1. Best start with the first three Bigfoot War books before going on to these follow ups. (see May reviews)
