Stacking the Shelves #106

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews
Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks! Click on the link under the book to find its page on Goodreads or Smashwords.

Please note that I always leave a message on your STS/SP if you visit me, but if you use DISQUS or a similar third party I will not be able to leave a comment on your page. And sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress so you might get a double message sometimes! Blame them, not me!

Another Spooky Book week passes and I haven't got a great deal done by the looks of it. I read a bit this week but got stuck on two books that didn't really live up to expectations. With one of them I'm over halfway but I'm a bit of a dilemma about whether or not to DNF. The book is well enough written but it is slow and the characters are running around in circles and not getting far. One more chapter and I'll make a decision. Either way I need to be done with the book tonight as it's holding me up badly! I need to get on to something else!

On the book buying front, restraint has been forgotten as Amazon added new books onto their 3 paperbacks for £10 offer so it's REALLY not my fault, it's theirs! A lot of them are contemporary and I'll get through them pretty quick but I can't read them until Spooky Booky month is over! I'm having shelf space crisis! Next week my dad is helping me to repair my other two IKEA bookcases to strengthen them to hold all these extra books! Once that is done I can finally rearrange all my bookshelves into genre and get some photos taken so you guys can actually see my Book Cave and how it got its name!

Right, this weeks books! I grabbed a few freebies for the Kindle on Amazon yesterday-the first four on my haul. The other two I bought for 99p each which was a nice bargain. So I have dinosaurs and zombies to look forward to there! Forget Texas is the follow up to a nice zombie book I read a few months ago called Forget the Alamo. Good zombie read! If you LOVE zombies don't forget to look at my two posts about The Best of Zombie Fiction, posted in the last week or so! I have a ton still waiting to be read so more zombie posts will follow!

  1. Ooh, looks like a good bunch! The Martian is a lot of fun. I'm curious about Red Moon, too.

    1. I took a gamble on a lot of these books in the sale but I figured it costs between £1.50-£3.00 to cover postage to get the book second hand in trade so why not grab a new copy from Amazon in the 3 for £10 offer! That's my excuse anyway...

  2. I'm debating whether or not to get The Martian... it seems there is a lot of hype around it these days because of the movie. Which is why I think I'll wait a little while longer.
The Tattoo Coloring Book looks great! I hope you'll share some of your colorings with us :)
Have a fantastic weekend and happy reading.

    1. I'm not sure if it's my kind of thing. I love sci-fi films but rarely touch sci-fi books! But when there is a sale, you just think 'stuff it' and buy the thing...!

The Tattoo book has some great designs. I do plan to share the colourings if I ever get time to do any! I'm up to my eyeballs in books at the moment!

  3. I have "The Martian" on my "when the hype dies down" list. Happy reading!

    1. I never pay much attention to hype. For me, I either want to read a book or I don't so nothing the medis says is going to sway me one way or another. I do check out Goodreads reviews before I buy though so I can be sure I'm buying something that fits into my likes!

    1. I've picked up a right pile of colouring books over the last month or so, and I'm gradually uploading them onto my book hauls. Still got two saved for next week plus Harry Potter on pre-order! I don't have time to get colouring now though-I've bought so many sale books these last 6 weeks that I need to reduce the tbr first!

  5. I hope to read The Martian next month. I picked it up on impulse during a quick ( yeah right) walmart stop. It was a total impulse buy but I do think it will be good. The Valley looks interesting. Can't wait to see your shelves. I hit the library again this week...it really is a good library. Happy spooky reading!

    1. I love the sound of The Valley! There needs to be more dinosaur books with that kind of plot! More teeth! On Tuesday my dad and I are repairing one of the bookcases and hope to do the other on Thursday. Then I plan to rearrange all my books into genres hopefully over that weekend, and then photograph the results. My room looks like a disaster zone at the moment with piles of books everywhere! So what did I just do? Ordered more from Amazon minutes ago...*puts head in hands*

  6. Quite a zombie theme, but some nice looking sci-fi titles as well.

  7. I've been wanting to read "The Martian"; it does look interesting! And it reminds me of "2001: A Space Odyssey", by Arthur C. Clarke. I also like the looks of "A Deafening Silence in Heaven". That's a new one for me. As for the rest of your books, they, too, are new to me, so I will look them up on Goodreads. However, I can't read the ones featuring zombies. I'm just too much of a chicken for that! Lol.

It's WONDERFUL that you bought a coloring book! This is a current, very healthy, and creative trend going on now.

Thanks for sharing! Enjoy all your books, and Happy Saturday!! : )

  9. I'd love to get The Martian! I really wanna see the movie too but I'd prefer to read the book first. :)

    1. I'm planning to read the book first as well. I always try to do that where possible. The question is WHEN will I find time to get to it?!!!

  10. Awesome book haul! I wish Amazon was doing a similar "3 paperbacks for $10" here in the US but alas, no. Maybe my bank account and book shelves are sighing in relief ;)

  12. The Martian is one I want to read after watching the movie. Want to read about more details. I like the tattoo coloring book because its content interestingly different.

    1. I like the fact that the tattoo book is different-it might encourage more men to colour as well. There's even zombie colouring books! I have my eye on that and the Doctor Who one, and I've preordered Harry Potter!

  13. Lol Chuckles. To be honest I agree with you whole-heartedly... it's definitely Amazon's fault. The same happened to me with that 99p sale they had :P
I had to giggle at the state of your bookshelves... especially the reinforcement part! Lol. There's been a few bloggers with this problem lately, so you're not the only one ;)
    Happy reading!

    1. At least when they are fixed I won't worry about them collapsing in the middle of the night! A lot of the sale grabs are contemporaries which I can zoom through quite quick but I need to wait until Spooky Booky Month is over first! Tonight it will be zombies on the Kindle!

    2. Eep!! I'll leave the zombies to you :'( lol. On another note, contemporary sounds good :P he he. I know what you mean though, they're so quick to get through! Nothing like the more hard-core fantasy novels ;) 500 pages minimum! x
