Blogmas #31-Books That Disappointed 2018

I'm finishing off the year by taking a look at the books I hoped that I'd love or enjoy but didn't for a variety of reasons. These books scored between 1 and 3 stars, some were finished and some were DNFed.

POOR WRITING AND LACK OF INTERESTING STUFF
The problem with these books is that the author was wasted through most of these years and remembers very little worth recounting so there is repetition, no timeline, random scattered stories, confused writing, rambling poetry. There was little about the family breakup by Elizabeth Taylor and the Harrison Ford Affair was somewhat painful to read about as she was obviously somewhat damaged when it was happening. I'm afraid I found little of interest in these books at all.

DULL CONTENT
A Conservative Coup should have been interesting, regarding the plot that brought down a Prime Minister but it managed to be dull, full of unimportant waffle and it was an ordeal to finish. Patriots was too info-dumpy. The Dark Net, Will Of Man and The Survivors bored me and the Kate Middleton book was poor in every way.

DISLIKED SUPPORTING CHARACTERS

DISLIKED MULTIPLE CHARACTERS

TROPE & PACING
Insta-luv, love triangles, slow writing, slow moving plots.

STRANGE PLOT CHOICES
Rice starting a zombie apocalypse, retirement homes from hell, too short, Preppers making dumbest decisions, best characters being killed off for no reason, unrealistic.

BOOKS I EXPECTED MORE FROM
These books get 3 stars but just weren't as good as I wanted them to be. Dream Woodswas a good idea that I'd want done differently, My Lady Jane had an MC that I disliked for most of the book, Fury of the Orcas had sex obsessed MCs and disturbing animal death, Sharkwater Beach and Lake Lurkers would have been really good without bitch MCs and evil cops.

  1. Still giggling from what you said about the Carrie Fisher books. I am sad Illuminae didn't work for you. That is one of my favorite series.

    1. I was doubtful about Illuminae before I read it so it wasn't unexpected!

  5. Sorry these didn't work for you. I have only read one from your list, Illuminae, which I did enjoy but not every book works for every reader.

    1. I seem to be in the minority over Illuminae! But like you said, we can't all love everything!

  7. You are not the first to not like the Carrie Fisher books and I am so disappointed in that because I don't normally read bio's and wanted to read hers and Sally Fields and Robin Williams. Ughh there are always those books that disappoint us!

    1. I don't read many celebrity memoirs but I thought Carrie Fisher would be quite funny. I was really disappointed in them! Burt Reynolds book could be interesting.

    1. I guess every year there are going to be disappointments! As long as there are plenty good books as well it's ok!

  9. I expected more from My Lady Jane as well. I didn't like Throne of Glass as much as everyone else seems to, maybe I should have read it when it came out. I'm slowly moving away from young adult fiction.

    1. Jane annoyed me for too much of the book though the actual plot was fun. I sort of liked the story for Throne of Glass but it was pretty slow and I hate love triangles! I don't read much YA fiction either.
