Abandoned Authors: Donna Augustine

This may be a recurring feature from time to time where I try a few books by one author and just don't take to them and don't have enough to say to do full reviews on each one.

This week I'm talking about Donna Augustine and two of her books which I tried but just didn't get into.

People say karma's a...well, you know. Personally, I don't think I'm that bad. It's not like I wanted this job. I wasn't even in my right mind when I accepted the position. Now, I'm surrounded by crazy coworkers like Lady Luck, who's a bit of a tramp, and Murphy's Law, who's a bumbling oaf. But the worst is Fate. He's got a problem with transfers like myself, and I have to see him constantly. It's unavoidable. We're hunting the same man—my murderer.

My Review:
Camilla dies in a train crash and is signed up by Harold for a new life, as Karma. Her job will be to keep the universe in Harmony.

The concept sounded interesting but the actual story was not to my liking. Yes I get that Camilla is struggling with the concept of being dead and unable to go near her family but she really is a whiny moron. She breaks the rules, endangers her family and will not cooperate. Now she is angry at not being told anything about what she was signing up to, yet she didn't bother asking any questions at the time she was approached. I do agree with her opinion of Harold who is a snotty git who seems determined to tell her nothing but gets annoyed when she does something wrong.

Dreadful characters and a lack of anything interesting happening so I gave up.

Two days ago, Jo Davids was a waitress by night and a college kid by day, with the unnerving problem of things floating around her. One day ago, Jo's sexy boss, Cormac, noticed her for all the wrong reasons when she witnessed a man transform into a monster in the basement of his casino.Today, Cormac ordered her shot. If he's real lucky, she won't die. Because if she does, all hope is lost.

My Review:
The first 15% of the book seemed to be about Jo being a man magnet for every sleazy moron in the city. She is working in a casino with her best friend and catches the eye of the boss who is already sleeping with her obnoxious co-worker. Other random men continue to try and bed her while she fends off their advances.

By 20% she has seen something she shouldn't and her boss has her killed-but she doesn't die. So now the boss is wondering why and instantly has a theory about what she is.

*sigh* This was just so slow and boring with Jo being the most attractive woman in creation with every man trying to seduce, grope and bed her. It got old very fast and by the time we got to her being shot I had already ceased to care.

This is the second book I've abandoned by this author. It is clear that I am not going to find her work personally appealing so I won't be trying any more. I gave both books 1 star.

Read August 2016.
