Welcome to my feature Chuckles Weekend Roundup where I will be looking at what books I've received, anything interesting I've done or bought or watched and other random stuff. I'll be taking a look back at what happened in my blogging world too, sort of like The Sunday Post that some of you do!
Please note that I'll be visiting your STS/SP as normal, but I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow DISQUS to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I am the only one who does that on my social media! I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account. Sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress-they try to block me because I deleted my account with them but I will persevere as it only happens the odd time!

Hi guys! It's the end of another week and the start of a whole new month to look forward to! It is Scify month across the internet so check out how to join in here https://onemore.org/2018/09/16/scifimonth-2018-sign-up/ and share your books and films and stuff as we try to read some SF through November! Check out the hashtag #RRSciFiMonth on Twitter to share in the fun.
The long awaited Horror Month was a bust. We were so busy tidying and doing work around the house that I was too tired to read or do much other than sloth around. But I've been forced to stop all work due to bursitis in my elbow...I'm meant to be doing nothing for a few weeks to let it recover but I need that arm to blog and type so rest isn't happening anytime soon when things need to be done like my weekend post, comments and blog visits! I do hope to rest at night by doing more reading so hopefully that will be enough.
I've had a good week for getting books in so I'll be sharing those with you today. I've also caught up with comments on my blog and been to visit everyone so I'm happy with that. I'm a bit sad that more new people I followed two weeks back haven't bothered to visit my blog even once to say hello. It seems everyone wants comments on their blogs but some don't think it's worth visiting other people, which is a shame. I've followed 50 new blogs over the last two months and got no response so I'm done with all that! If a new blogger comes here to say hello, I'll respond, but I'm not going looking any more! I'm lucky to have you guys and that's all I need so thank you all!

Chuckles Chat continued with the Halloween theme but will be changing to SF books this month. Chuckles Chuntering has more on the fence, the house and the danger that furry pumpkins fave at Halloween.

I caught up with Coronation Street and watched the end of The Great British Bake Off. I'm so not happy about the result as the best baker over the 3 rounds did not win! No names so I don't spoil it for anyone but I'm not happy!

A new month and hopefully more reading done! I'm starting to read Bedlam and have chosen the next two books on my list!

Yeah - I see so many people wanting more page views and comments and then when you try to interact it ends up being one sided. I mostly stick with my little core group and add a few here and there.
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting on Ext Strategy from my library.

Yeah I'm definitely done with the hunting. The other thing I've noticed is that as soon as you unfollow some people you suddenly get a blog comment from them after a month of nothing!
DeleteI hope you take care of your elbow and get some well deserved rest. I love the looks of Hybrid. That's sad about no one following/commenting back. Like you, I'm so grateful and love my regular bloggers but it's still sad. Hope you have a great weekend and enjoy your science fiction.
ReplyDeleteI've got one of those support braces around it so hopefully that'll let me type and give the joint a rest at the same time! Maybe a few people will visit the blof during SciFi month and decide to say hello!
DeleteI'm sorry to hear about your bursitis and you're going take the doc's advice and finally rest :) I'm with you on the visiting. It is too time consuming and discouraging to visit new blogs, leave comments and never get a reply or a visit. I like my small circle of blogging friends and will always welcome newcomers into the fold but I won't be actively searching out new blogging buddies.
ReplyDeleteI'm sort of ignoring the doctor by being on the blog but hopefully the support brace on the elbow will do enough to help! Bad Chuckles...but it's a busy month so I can't stop typing! Yep from now on, new bloggers can seek me out if they want but I'm done chasing!
DeleteBursitis eh? That doesn't sound fun at all :-(
ReplyDeleteIt's more annoying than anything. Sore but not unbearably painful thankfully!
DeleteI'm pretty excited about SciFi Month too! I think it's going to be an awesome November in that sense. And sorry to hear about the bursitis! I hope it passes soon and is not too painful for you.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend :)
I'm very excited about my reading this month but I've DNFed the first one! Oh well, Murderbot is up next and I know I'll like that!
DeleteOctober was a bit of a bust for me, too. :( I hope you have a really great scifi month. I'm doing a scifi challenge on Instagram this month, but I probably won't be reading many.
ReplyDeleteI hope to get a few off the shelves and give me room for my growing collection of Indie Horror and Creature Feature!
DeleteSorry that bloggers don’t comment back. I try really hard to keep up with the comments on my blog, but I’m currently way behind. Take care of your elbow! Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
The good thing about regular followers is that you know when they're taking time off for illness, moving house, overtime at work etc and you know they'll be back when things are less busy for them. That's totally ok as we all get overwhelmed sometimes!
DeleteI hope the elbow recovers quickly! It sounds so sore!
ReplyDeleteI haven't done much in the way of commenting lately. I've just moved into the new house and had that period of chaos, fatigue and no internet. I'm hoping to get back in a regular routine now.
It's frustrating when you comment and comment and never get any responses. I get that people are busy (hell, I'm a prime example lately!) but I can take part in a link-up, comment on 50+ blogs and get less than a third of that back in comments. :/ I don't comment for return comments but it's nice to know you're not shouting into the abyss and all the hard-work on the blog is seen by someone, you know?
Lol at the Bake Off result. I know so many people who've been peed off about that one. I don't watch it, thankfully, because I have no resistance to cake!
There's no better reason for being a bit behind than moving house, that's for sure! I've been a bit crazed and playing catchup and we're just doing up the house-it would be bedlam moving house and worrying about internet connections and how many comments and emails are waiting for you when you get switched on! I hope the move is all going well and you get back to normal soon!
Delete'shouting into the abyss' is a great way to express it! I hoped horror month and Bark's database of horror bloggers would help me find a handful of new blogger friends but it wasn't to be sadly! Maybe I'll find a few Scifi friends instead this month!
I'm weak when it comes to cake...I get so hungry watching Bake Off!
Sorry horror month was a bust. I hope Scifi month goes better for you. It seems like you are off to a good start.
ReplyDeleteI'm sort of ploughing through a book that I want to get finished right now and move onto something a bit better!
DeleteI have Hybrid and Abyss in my cart. And I plan to also order Maryha's series. They sound amazing. I have followed a lot of new blogs, visit and comment on their posts, and don't ever see them visit me so I'm cutting back on that too. I follow because we have similar interests in books and authors but I guess they can't be bothered? Oh well.
ReplyDeleteIt is frustrating isn't it! I mean when you follow a blog, some weeks you find more to comment on than others so it can go up and down a bit but I thought I might get one comment from new horror bloggers in horror month!
DeleteThe best laid plans...Hope Scifi is better. I know what you mean about commenters. It's a busy world and it's easy to get buried in email and social media, but I try to make it easy for others to visit and comment.

I hope to cut my Scifi shelf in my room right down to a handful of good books-that leaves space for any more I might find later!
DeleteI think we have all had some frustrations with reaching out on a new blog and nothing is returned. I am so busy lately that I focus on visiting bloggers that have visited me. I hope your bursitis clears up quickly. My husband has that from time to time and I know it is painful. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely not chasing new bloggers now. I'm tired of the effort and getting nothing! If a new blogger arrives at my blog to say hello, I do try to follow that up.
