Chuckles Weekend Roundup

Welcome to my feature Chuckles Weekend Roundup where I will be looking at what books I've received, anything interesting I've done or bought or watched and other random stuff. I'll be taking a look back at what happened in my blogging world too, sort of like The Sunday Post that some of you do!

Please note that I'll be visiting your STS/SP as normal, but I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow DISQUS to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I am the only one who does that on my social media! I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account. Sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress-they try to block me because I deleted my account with them but I will persevere as it only happens the odd time!

The end of November eh? Seems like no time at all since that summer heatwave but now I'm looking forward to winter nights of reading, films and dvd boxsets! I have a ton of stuff to get watched and I need to get motivated to do it now. I might add one boxset to each month of reading and see if that gets me started! Next month I start reading the books on my shelves that either got poor reviews or I bought to make up the numbers in special offers. It sounds strange that I'm hoping for lots of DNFs next month as that will kickstart my tbr reduction! I am hoping not to like these books which is weird, I know!

The book ban. Well I haven't bought any paperbacks or hardbacks since last week and the last of my Amazon packages are coming in this weekend so that has been a success. Trouble is, there is one I REALLY want so I'm asking Santa to bring it as I'm allowed freebies and gifts! But I do confess to buying two 99p Kindle books! The first one I bought forgetting the book ban at all but it was 99p and I forgave myself. The second is a reduced price copy of a new series I wanted to buy so I got it. Maybe I should start the book ban tomorrow with it being the start of the month and do it for December instead! Or at least until the boxing day sales...oh I'm pathetic! I'm useless at book bans!

The books appearing today were all bought before the book ban was considered so they are all legal, so to speak!

Chuckles Blogging World
I've kept up mostly on the blog this week and got a few things done. I'm taking part in Blogmas for a bit of fun so there will be a post about that most days in December. I'm already working on getting a few posts ready to get me started but getting a few book reviews prepared so it'll be a busy week online!

Film & TV Reviews
My digital TV box is about to go terminal so I've been trying to clear all the docs and TV episodes off it all week which has prevented me doing much else! I've been watching Ant Middleton on Everest-good but needed to be a mini series rather than one episode, a few true crime things, Masterchef The Professionals, Coronation Street and films for my dad.

Currently Reading/Up Next
I've been disappointed in my lack of reading over these last two months and I've missed out on the fun of Horror Month and Scifi Month for the most part. Next month is Delete the Shelves December where I'm intending to tackle books with mixed reviews or those I'm less keen on reading. I'm only picking ten books as my reading has been so bad recently and hopefully this will kick start me, ready for a brand new reading year! These are my first books to be tackled and I'm actually hoping I DNF them to free some shelf space quickly!

  1. I know you want to reduce numbers but hey, book bans always make me stress out and I buy more books. Just do whatever works for you and don't worry. But hey, I say start it in December....2020 :)

    1. The post is so unreliable in December with everyone posting Christmas stuff and the various Black Friday and December sales that swamp the postal services. A month of not fighting Amazon over why my books are late sounds pretty good to me right now AND it means I can have the occasional long lie in my bed without being up early in case a delivery comes!

  2. Haha, good luck with your DNFs! I’m hoping to get tons of reading done in December because there’s still a slim chance that I could catch up on my Goodreads challenge. Have a great week!

    1. I started one of the apocalypse reads with a few poor reviews-and finished it and gave it 4 stars! Not the start to the month I was really looking for!

  3. Sometimes I don't count .99 books because c'mon .99!! lol

I hope Santa brings you the books you want!

    1. I've been having those thoughts about 99p books too! As long as I don't buy paperbacks until the sales at the end of the year I guess I'm doing ok! I do need to buy less next year or at least read more samples and ebook versions and only buy the best in paperback!

  4. We love our boxsets! They're the only TV watching we get these days and are strictly limited to an hour a night. At the moment we're working through the old Robbie Coltrane Cracker TV series which Dave missed first time around. We're about 1/2 was through the X-Files season 2 which isn't as good as I remember (I was an obsessed fan but mainly for Krycek!) and we're gripped by the first season of Fargo :-)

    1. I used to enjoy Cracker! I loved the Hillsborough one. I've got the bought version of that in my house. I have all the X Files taped but have only seen the odd episode here and there.

  5. Book bans are hard...as are diets. I'm bad at both. :D

    1. I hear you! I need to diet too but over the winter we rely on our food stores so we can avoid fanatical shoppers and Christmas music! Maybe that's why I'm a Hufflepuff...my DNA is part hibernating badger!

  6. I love your TBR reduction strategy, but I hope you like some of the books more than other people who have read them.

    1. I was hoping I was going to hate them all so I can get them to the charity shop and give me space back but my first read of the month was 4 star...gah!

  7. Yep, sounds like the book buying ban will be another day. LOL So many of these look good and you're killing me. LOL I didn't buy a bunch of books this week. Instead I bought a pile of movies.

    1. As long as I don't buy anything else by post from Amazon I'll be pretty happy! At least until the Boxing Day Sales and that makes it a month. It's not REALLY breaking the ban as the stuff won't arrive until January...!

  8. I have thought about trying a book ban but I don't think that I wuold stick with it. When I told my daughter that I wanted to spend a year reading what I had and not adding to it, she laughed and told me that I was just setting myself up for failure. She is right. I don't even know how to catch up with my tbr and probably never will. I hope you have a great week and free up some space on the bookshelf!

    1. I'd never last a year with a book ban. I'm struggling with this short winter ban! I'm thinking about the 'read ten, buy one' reward system which might work! Maybe a ban on buying the new book in a series until I've caught up with the series or at least read a couple more books in it. I think that might work for me than book bans!

  9. The Cabin in the Woods has been on my WL. I have to go on a buying ban. I have so many and want to read so many more. Time to curb my spending. Plus I have a ton of books on my wish list for my hubby to pick out. =)

    1. I've got the book and film for Cabin which both need to be looked at! I need to curb the spending too. Next year I'm on a tighter budget!

  10. I still need to remember to do a breakdown of my TBR too. It's been on my to-do list ever since you posted yours!

    Enjoy the new books!
