Why sell your soul when you can rent it? Mark Vedis is an average cop. Average for a mage in the Paranormal Police Department (PPD), anyway. After years of doing the jobs nobody else wanted, his career, and life, seemed to be on hold. Then he met a foul-mouthed demon who filled him with power, turned him into a warlock, and dumped him into a world of wealth and debauchery that was disturbing at best.
When an enemy strikes who is far beyond what the cops in the PPD have ever seen, Mark is forced to travel to Thailand and face threats from all sides.
But he soon learns that the chief of the Bangkok PPD is on the take, the local mafia is stirring up trouble, two of his team members have already been killed, and his new partners have trouble keeping their clothes on in public. Okay, the public nudity is probably the least of his worries.
Worst of all, everyone in the supernatural community despises what he's become.
To them, 'warlock' is a dirty word...
This is the first in a new series by the author and it sounds like my kind of urban fantasy. I also like that the series is set in Asia so the change of scenery could be fun! It came out in August but I'm going to grab it soon I hope and maybe try the other paranormal police department series.

"Why sell your soul when you can rent it?" That's a brilliant opening!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds a bit different from the usual urban fantasy I've been seeing!
DeleteI like that it is set in Asia too. Always nice to get a feel for a far off place. I hope you love it.

I don't get to read many books set outside the UK and US. The odd ones in Canada, Australia, NZ and South Africa but this Asian setting sounds exciting!
DeleteI need to make a point in 2019 to read urban fantasy again. It's kind of fallen by the wayside but I do love it so much. This one is definitely going on the wishlist.
ReplyDeleteI kind of fell out of love with it for a bit as there was too much crossover into PNR for my tastes but I'm gradually looking at it again!
DeleteI can see why the blurb caught your attention. A story that takes place in Thailand sounds fun too!

I know the second book takes place in South Korea so it looks like the series will have really interesting settings. I hope they turn out to be good!
DeleteThis does sound promising, and yes to the Asia setting!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see a different location for a change!
DeleteI'll be looking for your review. I really enjoyed the Fated Blades books by Steve Bein (Japan) so this sounds interesting too.
ReplyDeleteIt'll be way into next year as I haven't even got the book yet! Too many books and not enough hours in the day to read them all too...!
DeleteYou really don't see too many books set in Asia, so that would definitely be a plus for me too.
ReplyDeleteYeah most of my urban fantasy is set in the US so seeing the series set across Asia is quite exciting!
DeleteHmm... I have never thought about renting my soul LOL. It is interesting that Warlocks are hated. I would think they'll be one of the best because their powers really don't have a define limit.
ReplyDeleteElle Inked @ Keep on Reading
Magic tends to be fun in urban fantasy so I'm looking forward to getting this one! I'm not keen on the idea of renting out my soul though!
DeleteThis sounds like a fun read! I agree that the fact that the story is set in Asia is a nice change.
ReplyDeleteIt just makes me want to read it, seeing it is a bit different. I like the idea of different Asian settings! Makes you wish the authors put photos of the places in the books to enjoy!
