Book Review: Killer by Sara Shepard (Pretty Little Liars #6)

In picture-perfect Rosewood, Pennsylvania, ash-blond highlights gleam in the winter sun and frozen lakes sparkle like Swarovski crystals. But pictures often lie--and so do Rosewood's four prettiest girls.

Hanna, Aria, Spencer, and Emily have been lying ever since they became friends with beautiful Alison DiLaurentis. Ali made them do terrible things--things they had to keep secret for "years." And even though Ali was killed at the end of seventh grade, their bad-girl ways didn't die with her.

Hanna's on a mission to corrupt Rosewood's youth, starting with a very attractive sophomore. Aria's snooping into her boyfriend's past. Spencer's stealing--from her family. And pure little Emily's abstaining from abstinence.

The girls should be careful, though. They thought they were safe when Ali's killer was arrested and A's true identity was finally revealed. But now there's a new A in town turning up the heat. And this time Rosewood is going to burn.

My Review:
This is the type of series where you think you know what is coming. Sometimes you are right but the author still manages to throw in something that you weren't expecting and these moments come thick and fast in the first eight books.

This is where I start talking spoilers from the end of the last book so look away now if you haven't read that one. OK, lets get to it. Spencer has led the girls discover that the body is gone. Now they know for sure that Alison's killer is out there and waiting for them. That would be scary enough for most people to hide in their room forever but of course our liars have much more trouble to land themselves in!

Hanna and Kate are at war and the prize is to be Queen Bee of the school. And when Kate starts to show an interest in Mike, Aria's brother, Hanna sees a chance to beat Kate by making Mike fall for her instead. Emily's relationship is under threat when Isaac refuses to believe that his mother is trying to split them up. Is he going to wise up in time or is Emily going to punish him? Aria moves in with her dad to escape the attentions of her mother's pervert boyfriend. Ooh what a happy family unit that will be! Add to that, hanging out with the strange Jason shows more flaws in her thinking! As for Kate, I want to slap her stupid AND give Hanna's dad a kick up the butt for not taking action against the bitch. No wonder Hanna is messed up!

Spencer finds her birth mother Olivia and decides to take all the money from her college fund to move to New York to be with her. But of course, Spencer's mad plans take a bizarre turn which leave her feeling more lost than ever. Spencer, gawd! Are you the dumbest cow on the planet? Are you the only one who didn't see that coming? I swear, Spencer was my favourite at the start of the series but she drives me crazy at times! Spencer's parents deserve a lot of the blame for her stupidity.

So who is the killer? Is it the previously trusted cop who was normal until just recently? I don't think his clothing and music choices are helping us to think that he is a good guy but I doubt that he is the killer. His odd behaviour does mean that he is hiding a secret though. It must be something about the air in that town that turns everyone psycho...

Is it an undead form of Ian? (hmmm, that sounds too much like a zombie plot but I'm ruling nothing out!). By that I mean did he fake his death? Me, I believe Ian is dead and the body was moved just to mess with Spencer's head. Jason who is behaving like a lunatic? Isaac? Melissa? Alison's mother? Someone we haven't met yet? The choices are endless! I do know the answer already as I've read the first eight books but I need to ramp up the drama here to make it as exciting as the notes I'm working from to write this!

We end the book on another cracking cliffhanger that makes you want to grab the next book. Who did they see...?
