TBR Countdown Challenge

My tbr managed to sneak up over 600 books again and action was taken!!! So I set myself a target to get that tbr from 612 as it stood down to 500 books by December 31st. I reached that goal last month. I wondered what target to set next and decided just to keep tackling the tbt to try and reduce it as much as possible by the end of the year. My updates on my progress won't be weekly, just whenever I have something to report! Anyone who wants to try and reduce their tbr is welcome to post on my update posts about their progress!

FYI: A few people have asked why the number of books I've reduced the pile by in the post title does not match the number of books I mention in the actual blog post. Simple really, I'm still adding new books to the tbr each week, and a few are rereads.

There is no number on my title as you'll notice. I had a two week reading slump and a holiday book splurge which took me up over 500 again, and since then I have went mad on Amazon, snapping up a pile of books in their 3 paperbacks for £10 offer. ERK! Bad Chuckles! Anyway, it looks like I could be stranded at 500 if I don't stop buying, coz I'm having to read madly to offset what I'm buying! Darn those shiny new books!

  1. I abandoned Wolf Hall twice - once as an audio and once as a book. How did you like Cherry Ames. I found some of her books at a much older cousins home when I was a kid and really liked them. Another obscure series from a little earlier time is the Dana Girls, by Carolyn Keene, the author of Nancy Drew.

    1. I found Cherry Ames too much of a copy of Sue Barton, with less about her friends and more about what a hero she was. A bit too gung ho for me! I never did read Nancy Drew...I was more into Enid Blyton as a kid but my mum loved Nancy Drew. Wolf Hall-I just found the whole thing incomprehensible!

  2. I hope your reading slump is over soon, I hate those. I keep adding new books to my to-read pile as well. It's almost impossible to make a dent in the pile. I hope you have a great week.

    1. The reading slump was a while back before my holiday. Since I came home I've been reading madly to keep up to date with all the new things I'm buying. I'm a bit out of control at the moment!

  3. My friend kept saying I need to try Wolf Hall but I fear it may be a bit wordy and clever for me!!!

    1. I didn't even find it dumb-I thought it was badly written, lacking in proper dialogue and direction and little in the way of character development! But maybe the TV series will be quite good-there are some good actors in it!

  4. Oh I bought Wolf Hall to read with a group online. I ended up giving it away to another who would enjoy the book as I just couldn't read it. Glad to see I'm not the only one. And way to go with the eliminating books!

    1. I'm glad to see as many people out there not liking this book! Sometimes I think it's just me being over picky but in this case I just could not like anything about this book.

  5. I need to try Wolf Hall someday... People say good things about it, but. Eh.

  6. As long as you are enjoying your reading, I say go for it! It's nice to have goals, but sometimes it is also nice to throw them out the window and do something fun. I plan on picking up some books in October to read when I know I should be reading something else because I feel I deserve it! haha

    1. I've found a couple of really good reads this week so I'm pretty happy! Steven Jenkins zombie novel Burn the Dead was pretty good so I look forward to the next one in the series. I'm reading another one called Draculas about a vampire outbreak in a hospital that spreads like a zombie virus. It's over the top, funny, sick and gory! I'm really enjoying that!

    2. Draculas sounds awesome. I will have to look for it!

    3. I finished it last night and really enjoyed it. It was mad!

  7. Oh Chuckles! lol. To be honest, I can hardly blame you. My TBR list is now at... 639... and that's not including some books I haven't added on there yet! Eep! I think the key here is... give up the STS meme ;) he he. It's a bad influence! A brilliant meme, don't get me wrong... but it now has me keeping an eye out for juicy new books!! :O
    Have a great week!
