A simple mission turned deadly.
Nineteen-year-old vampire Dawn has led a sheltered life within the confines of her father’s presidential headquarters. Upon being sent on a mission to revamp four goofy misfits into guardians of a peaceful little town of Angel Creek, Dawn believes that all her dreams have finally come true. What starts off as a simple task, turns into something unexpected, changing Dawn’s life forever and leading the action-loving, thrill-seeking vampire teen on a path of mystery, danger and intrigue.
When a human girl is kidnapped by a group of rogue vamps, Dawn discovers that there is more going on in Angel Creek than meets the eye. And it all connects to Ethan, the cute newcomer who seems too perfect to be true, Sebastian, the mysterious vampire with a turbulent past, and even Dawn herself. Dawn must not only succeed in revamping the troubled recruits, but must also prevent the vampire race from being overtaken by a malevolent villain who has a strange and obsessive fascination with her. As threat escalates, romance blooms, and ghosts from her past begin to surface, Dawn is sure of only one thing: her life will never be the same.

My Review:
*I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*
Dawn is the sheltered warrior daughter of the Vampire President, on her first mission to train a bunch of misfit vampires to be guardians of Angel Creek. The 'team' are quite useless, Dawn is in despair and when a dangerous vampire from her father's past targets them, she does not think that they can cope. Can the misfits pull together to save the day?
I really enjoyed this book. From the way it had been described in a couple of reviews I was expecting one of those YA vampire humour books that frequently fall on it's face-but it is not like that at all.
There is good humour in the interaction between the team members-pouting cheerleader Brooke, geeky nerd Seth, drugged up Hunter and bookworm Sophie, and some of the reality TV titles like Transylvania Shore made me snigger. I also thought it was a great twist having the werewolves as peace loving puppies living in a hippy commune. But the book is so much more than that with hints of romance with Ethan and Sebastian appealing to Dawn in different ways, violent encounters with psycho vampires, botched missions and revelations about Dawn's family that I never saw coming. It is very much character driven and characters like Brooke that would normally bug me to death, I found I loved. I liked all the characters and was rooting for them, which means the author has done her job perfectly. The fact that each character was flawed was good because flawed characters are more fun to read about.
The plot was really good because it delved into the backgrounds of all the main characters, uncovering very surprising secrets especially for Dawn. These secrets cause the characters we love to do some really questionable things which will upset the reader-but it adds so much to the story! The fight and rescue scenes are excellent with tension and lots of action. The book flows along nicely and the storytelling is vivid yet simple in style. You were never quite sure what would happen next and several scenes and plot reveals surprised me. I really loved the scene at the commune because it had EVERYTHING in it.
Niggles? I don't really think that there was anything I didn't like about the book. It has the right mixture of humour and action, with just that touch of romance lingering. It has a twisting plot and plenty character development without getting over descriptive or being filled with information dumps. The book is perfect for older YA and adult readers due to a few violent scenes. As soon as I finished this book I went straight on to read the next book in the series-Reawakened. If it keeps to the same standard, I'll be a very happy reader!

“Being with the gang kind of reminds me of the time in my life when I was touring with my band, Blood Vultures. Of course, now we have to worry about getting bloody for real.”
“I haven’t had the best luck with relationships in the past, so it’s kind of a touchy subject.”

That evening,
nestled in the small, cozy cottage in the depths of the Angel Creek
forest, I glumly surveyed the vampires gathered around the dining
room table. Hunter was resting his head on the linen tablecloth,
struggling to stay awake. Every so often, he would succeed in lifting
his heavy lids and focus his eyes on me, only to instantly retreat
into his intoxicated coma. Sophie sat to Hunter’s right, her
forehead scrunched tightly as she squinted at the small print of her
historical fiction novel. Her pupils moved at lightning speed
as
her eyes glided across the pages, hungrily devouring the story.
Across from them, Brooke was polishing her nails with a sharp, pink
file. She paused after each stroke to inspect her handiwork and
ensure that she was creating the perfect shape. Seth sat at the foot
of the table, a large head of garlic in his hand. He peeled off a
clove and popped it into his mouth, wincing at the bitter flavor. All
the while, he shot dirty looks in Brooke’s direction.
Drawing in a deep,
calming breath, I launched into a short speech I had prepared earlier
in the day. “Congratulations new recruits! The four of you are now
in training to become the guardians of Angel Creek. This is both a
great honor and an important task,” I said with as much excitement
as I could muster. “Once you complete your training, you’ll be
officially sworn in by the town council. Until then, I require your
undivided attention and full devotion. Are you ready to band together
and work with me?”
“Hmm?” Hunter
murmured, raising his head.
“Y-Yes.” Sophie
whispered.
“Okay,” Brooke
said. “But it better make me super popular.”
Seth narrowed his
eyes at Brooke. “As long as I don’t have to work too closely with
her.”
It was the best I
was going to get,
I realized.
And
that would have to change.
