Blogmas #6-Best Female Characters

Yes, the eagle-eyed may have noticed that I've changed the order of the categories to give me extra  time to get a last few books counted for these posts! These are the books with the best female lead and supporting characters that I've read this year.

A Dance With Dragons
Asha Greyjoy is taken prisoner by Stannis Baratheon as he heads through the snow towards Winterfell. Following her story really shows the starvation, despair and freezing conditions that his army are suffering as they move forward. Cersei Lannister's plots have taken down Margaery but have caused her own arrest, as she vainly waits for Jaime to rescue her. I enjoyed seeing the Walk of Shame through her eyes.

The Testing trilogy
Cia is a hardworking student who is loyal to her friends and her fair play values. Trying to play the game and win requires her intelligence and a network of friends to trust when trust is hard to come by.

Sabina Kane series
Sparkly and bitchy Pussy Willow, Drag Queen and club singer is just so much fun and is the alter ego of a male character I love.

Extinction Trials
Stormchaser is a strong, brave and principled young woman who has to deal with a new relationship with her father, the sudden arrival of the enemies who exiled her and all the deadly dangers of giant spiders and dinosaurs!

The Last Bastion Of The Living
Maria is a soldier in the zombie apocalypse protecting her community, and volunteers for a new assault outside the compound gates, unaware of what she is signing up for. Maria is a strong, determined woman who is fun to read about.

The Montauk Monster
Meredith is a desk cop forced off the streets by injury but becomes a heroine when she battles to save her town from sea monsters.

My Lady of Cleves
Anne of Cleves rarely gets star billing in a book so I really enjoyed reading a book from her POV as she struggles to deal with Henry VIII.

HVZA
Becks is about to become a doctor when the zombie apocalypse and she starts working at a lab to try and find a cure. She was a normal woman who was trying to do her best to help her patients in spite of the danger.

Bloodhound Files
Gretchen is a vampire intelligence agent with dry humour who is a side character in this series. I loved her snarky attitude.

The X-Variant
Kala travels back in time to try to save her world from a virus that has turned people into monsters. The task seems simple-kill the carriers of the faultu genes and protect the others. But when she meets the humans in person, it becomes harder to do. Great character.

Z Children
Sherry is an overweight, unfit woman who owns a kid'd clothing store so she has plenty problems outrunning the fast child zombies! I liked that she was a real person, full of panic and fear!

    1. Asha is brilliant! I'm enjoying following her in the books and I love the Yara version of her in the TV series.
