Chuckles Cover Love #76 Stephanie Burgis

If there is one thing that makes a great book even better, it is when it has a cover that we love! The cover design is what catches the eye as we browse through a bookstore shelf or check out the Amazon or Goodreads recommendations. The right cover makes me look closer at a book, to read the blurb and maybe make a purchase. A poor cover might mean I never look at the blurb at all.

NB: I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow them to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account.

This week...Stephanie Burgis

For me this is an example of how to get it right with the cover in one book and wrong in the second! NB I've now added the third cover and see where they are going with this now.

  1. I wouldn't even think that these two books were part of the same series. The first one is great while the second one...

  2. LOL Yep, that second one doesn't do a thing for me. The first is thrilling and so colorful.

    1. I like having the grand buildings and colour in both covers but that face is so dull compared to the great mask!

  3. Her books have definitely been blessed by the cover gods. Shadow Duet is definitely not as nice, but I can see why they wanted to keep the theme but went with the art style to fit the period. I don't know if you've seen the cover for her book Congress of Secrets, but it kind of follows the same trend, except it's probably my favorite of the three.

    1. Shadow puppets might have made a good cover! Yeah I can understand the reasons for choosing the second cover, based on the time period. I haven't seen Congress of Secrets yet but I'll add it on to this post.

  4. Oh my Lord, I wouldn't even know those are from the same series. What were they thinking?

    1. I think Mogsy is right about them following the time periods now that I've seen the third and added that to the post. I still like the first best though and wish they had at least put masks on the women!
