Chuckles Weekend Roundup

Welcome to my feature Chuckles Weekend Roundup where I will be looking at what books I've received, anything interesting I've done or bought or watched and other random stuff. I'll be taking a look back at what happened in my blogging world too, sort of like The Sunday Post that some of you do!

Please note that I'll be visiting your STS/SP as normal, but I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow DISQUS to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I am the only one who does that on my social media! I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account. Sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress-they try to block me because I deleted my account with them but I will persevere as it only happens the odd time!

Another week has gone by and I'm grumpy about the heatwave coming back. I'm just glad that I pretty much got my bedroom straightened before things got too warm again. Ugh, I'll be glad for autumn! The rest of the work in the house in on hold for a bit due to the weather and my dad feeling a bit off colour. He's getting a few tests done but the doctor thinks it is a slight issue with blood sugar but nothing to worry about. So he is banned from all work on my orders!

I haven't got a great amount of reading done and I've had to readjust my plans for the month. I've bumped Wolf by Wolf to next month as I haven't tried the author before and August is my new to me Authorfest. That means I need to squeeze in a few books by authors I have already read before the end of the month as I might need these books for some upcoming TTT lists I'm working on. More about the books I need to read later in this post. I did download a few more that sounded interesting, as a reward for having a new bookcase! *ahem*

I started a new way of doing Around The Blogs which will allow me to showcase a few more blog posts each week. Basically, instead of spending Sunday hunting for things to put on the post and running out of time, I'll be adding stuff to the post each day of the week as I visit your blogs. It's working out much better!

Change of plan! I've got my August Authorfest next month where I plan to read completely new-to-me authors so I've bumped Wolf by Wolf until then. I need to squeeze in a few books at the end of this month by authors I have tried, so I can use them in upcoming TTT lists next month! These are what I hope to squeeze in, in the next few days.

  1. A bit cooler today in Torquay, but not sure if it will last. Love that you celebrated your bookcase with more books!!

    1. I hope you avoided those horrible storms that have been hitting the UK! We had one last night that had my teeth on edge! I had to stay up reading to try and forget about it!

  2. I hope the heat wave isn’t too bad, and I hope your dad feels better soon. Enjoy your shark books!

    1. Thanks AJ! I'm ordering him to rest until the doctor tells us otherwise! I was emersed in a shark park adventure last night to take my mind off the thunderstorm!

  3. Sorry your heatwave is back. It's been hot here but at least upper 80's. If the humidity would leave, I'd find it tolerable. I love the looks of the Shark Park book and am going to have to look into it. I'm hoping at Thanksgiving, when I get a week off, I can finally get most of my library renovation done. When I have off, everything seems to pop up and on weekend, with visiting Gpa and doing weekly chores, I have no time to tackle big projects.

Booker T is doing better. I was off with him yesterday. He seems to be on the mend and at least doesn't seem miserable or in pain and he's going to the bathroom as usual once again. Thanks for sending good thoughts his way!

    1. It is so clammy outside so I'm staying indoors with every window open! I read Salechii last night and I really enjoyed it so I went ahead and downloaded her two box sets about the sharks and dinosaurs after all and the books are all there, which is a relief! I love her use of robotics in the books-robotic animals in the dinosaur one and robotic humans in the shark one!

I'm so pleased that Booker T is feeling better...that must be a relief for you and Mr Barb. Say hi to Cass as well!

  7. Ooh Murderbot. And The Great Zoo of china looks promising. I remember seeing that one a few times and thinking- dragons! lol

    Sharks too ha ha!

Hope you get a break from the heat. July is usually super hot for us and while it HAS been warm, it's been not as bad as usual (knocks on wood).

    1. I'm reading The Great Zoo of China and enjoying the tour of the park with the guests right now! Very like the start of Jurassic Park. We've had a lot of rain over the weekend but it is still expected to be warm this week. Thankfully Scotland is cooler than England!

  8. A new book case must be filled! LOL I want to try Martha Wells' series. I had a good read with Endurance. Crazy stuff. The Great Zoo Of China would be a fun movie. It read really fast. The Last Resort was pretty good and I hope you like Carolyn's shark series. It was fun but I know you got let down by the fiasco with her dinosaur series. And I need to find more shark books. It's that time of the month! LOL

    1. I can't stand an empty bookcase-what would the point in that be! My next task is to sort the books on the other three big bookcases into genres so everything has it's own shelf. I might do one of them tonight if I feel enthusiastic! Salechii was really good! I will be reviewing that in the coming weeks. I'm doing a 10 day shark thing in September!

  9. Carolyn McCray writes some good stuff. Hope you enjoy Saleechi. I did. Some of your other books look pretty good to me too.

    1. Most posts I can do in advance but obviously not one like ATB! This system lets me keep up with more stuff being posted. I got about 12 featured posts this week so that was a good start! Thanks for your good wishes! My dad gets another blood test next week so we should get things sorted soon.

  11. I enjoyed Endurance! I hope you go. Lots of awesome books you have gotten. I want to read some myself. I need to read more horror. I have been doing the YA and Thrillers lately. Have a great week!

    1. I can't see any reason why I wouldn't love Endurance as I loved Afraid and Trapped. I'm looking forward to reading it tomorrow! I have a lot of choice for what to read in Halloween Horror in October!

  12. I am sorry to hear that you are dealing with another heat wave. It has actually been cooler than normal in my area. I hope that nothing too serious is going on with your dad. It does sound like he needs a rest! Enjoy all of your new books!

    1. The summer is never going to end! *blubbers* The doctor says his blood sugar is slightly elevated but nothing to worry about so he gets more blood tests next week to see if it has settled. I'm trying to get him to rest until then but it isn't easy!
