Chuckles Weekend Roundup

Welcome to my feature Chuckles Weekend Roundup where I will be looking at what books I've received, anything interesting I've done or bought or watched and other random stuff. I'll be taking a look back at what happened in my blogging world too, sort of like The Sunday Post that some of you do!

Please note that I'll be visiting your STS/SP as normal, but I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow DISQUS to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I am the only one who does that on my social media! I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account. Sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress-they try to block me because I deleted my account with them but I will persevere as it only happens the odd time!

This week the weather was certainly cooler with the odd shower of rain which was a relief to me and my garden plants. I'm sleeping ok which is unusual for this weather but I feel dog tired and slothy every single day when I get up! The good news is that I am still getting some reading done. This was a slower week but I completed two books, DNFed one and read two samples but really I should have done more. Still, better than nothing! I'm still watching season 7 of American Ninja Warrior and enjoying it. On the book buying side of things I did have a bit of a horror splurge this week. I just can't resist my creature feature books. I'll be sharing those bundles of joy with you today!

Also this week I've started the long job of sorting my Goodreads shelves into some kind of order. I changed my short story shelf to books under 50 pages, and added new shelves for anthologies and novellas. At the moment my novella shelf goes to books between 50 and 150 pages but I don't know if that is how I want it or if I raise it to 200 pages. Decisions! I also broke up my dinosaurs and monsters shelf into sub categories-animals go bad (domestic animals), insects and arachnids, dinosaurs, Bigfoot, sea monsters, monster myths (ie Jersey Devil, Wendigo, Mothman etc). It'll make it quicker to find something if I'm doing TTT lists. Still got a ton to do but it's a work in progress! Need to do a bit more each day and gradually it'll get done!

This was a decent enough week for reading. I had planned to read three books but I dealt with two of them, reading Megalodon in Paradise and DNFing Hungry Things. I also read Lake Lurkers and three samples. Decent but could do better! I didn't get started with Contest but I'm reading it next, plus I want to look at Wolf by Wolf and Gameland.

  1. I've heard good things about Wolf by Wolf. Hope you like Megalodon in Paradise. I still need to read it. Glad it's gotten a tad bit cooler for you. We had a few days break but it's supposed to be super hot here this weekend again. I LOVE the cover of Eat. Must be the green and black/grey combo. Have a great and enjoyable weekend. The pups say hello to Auntie Chuckles!

    1. Megalodon was a little slower getting into what was happening but things picked up in the second half. I still liked it though. Darn sun is back out full strength today which isn't great! Eat is pretty eyecatching for sure. Give the pups a big hug from me!

    1. I'm making a point of sorting shelves for half an hour each day, that way I'm getting a bit done without boring myself sorting them all day! I've got about 10 done which is a decent start!

  3. I try so hard to organize my goodreads shelves. But it never seems to work out for me! Good luck with that. And looks like you got some great books this week.

    1. It can feel like a never ending task can't it! Doing a bit each day is getting it done so I guess I'll plug away with it. I keep thinking about how things will be easier to manage when I'm done!

  4. Hard to resist One Dinosaur One Bullet...that cover alone makes me want to read it. Feed and Eat also look yummy. ;D

  5. You are tempting me with these books. So many creature feature ones! Glad to hear it's cooled down some. I think this is going to be a brutal summer for everyone.

    1. I'll be putting up more next week too! It certainly has been a brutal summer. If I wasn't getting up before seven every day to get all the windows open, this house would be like a sauna!

  6. Okay seriously, when I saw the cover for Slithers I immediately pulled my feet up off the floor without even thinking about it.

    1. Slithers does look kind of creepy. This kind of one can disturb me more than sea monsters as they can slither anywhere!

  8. I do love the design of that cover on Feed! Someone thought about the placement of the text carefully. Sharks are eye-catching enough...

Anyway, rambling! Can you send the rain our way? Drought here. :(

    1. There are some really great covers in this genre for sure! Lots of teeth always get my attention! We're supposed to get rain this morning but there's no sign of it yet and my plants need it!

  9. I am glad that the weather cooled down for you. Sorry to hear that you are feeling tired though. Contest and Wolf by Wolf are both books that have caught my eye. I hope you enjoy all of your new books!

    1. I'm sleeping fine through the night so I don't know why I feel so tired every morning! I started Contest last night and it gets quickly into the story which I like. I hope to finish that tonight.

  10. I love the fox! My husband and I both love the movie Fantastic Mr. Fox (based off the book). Have you seen it?

It looks like you had a good book week!

    1. I saw it a while back and thought it was ok. I've loved the book since I was a kid and hated those farmers! That might be what caused me to feed the foxes that come though our garden!

  11. I can not tell you how many times I wanted to change my shelves around on GR and just don't want to do all that work. Maybe in August I should try and just do a little each day or something. I almost thought you were doing a shark week with so many water creatures up here.

    1. I've had to do it in bits and pieces as it is such a mind-numbingly boring task! Funny you should mention shark week. I've just finished reading a few books for an upcoming sea monster post!
