Chuckles Weekend Roundup

Welcome to my new feature Chuckles Weekend Roundup where I will be looking at what books I've received, anything interesting I've done or bought or watched and other random stuff. I'll be taking a look back at what happened in my blogging world too, sort of like The Sunday Post that some of you do!

Please note that I'll be visiting your STS/SP as normal, but I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow DISQUS to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I am the only one who does that on my social media! I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account. Sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress-they try to block me because I deleted my account with them but I will persevere as it only happens the odd time!
It's the end of my first week back after my break and I'm still playing a bit of catch up!It's funny how quick you can fall behind with the blogging! More of that later though. I got a couple of books finished this week which is better but I still need to get back ahead on my Goodreads Challenge target. Tonight I really need to attack that Game of Thrones book and get through a pile of pages to get fully back on track. I'm also watching old episodes of Coronation Street from the 70's which has been fun, seeing all the old faces again. On the book buying side of things, a quieter week with a few I ordered last week arriving a bit late!

As some of you may know, *shudder* October is spider breeding season and they come indoors looking for mates. Well I hate the damn things and have found an effective way to keep them out. Dilute about 4-5 drops of citronella essential oil into about 500 mls of water. Put into a spray bottle. Go outside and spray around your windows and doors. Spiders hate the smell and will move away from it, bringing them out of your house. Then hit them with a spider killing spray from Rentokill or similar to kill them. This was wildly successful yesterday so next week my dad is going to hunt them down room by room while I find lemon air fresheners to keep them out. Peppermint is said to repel them too. Now I feel a bit easier that my spider issues could be reduced!

Chuckles Blogging World:
I'm a couple of days behind in my blog visiting and comment replies but I'll sort that out over the weekend. I'm a bit more relaxed about my reading and watching more TV some nights so maybe I'm chilling out more! Tonight I'll be watching Great British Menu and getting stuck into the Game of Thrones book. Hope to finish it over the weekend. As always a link is provided for each blog post from last week to take you straight to anything you missed. Comments are moderated so it mght take a day or two to see it on the blog. Don't forget to check out what is coming up next week on the blog!

This week I finally finished an apocalypse book that I started weeks ago, completed Edwina Currie's political diaries and reread The Rats. I didn't get any of the Game of Thrones book done so that is priority this week. So this is my reading plan for the weekend and coming week...

 Next Week on the blog?

Can't Wait Wednesday showcases Kevin Hearne's Scourged, Chuckles Chat topic is Book Buying and Game of Thrones gossip features Brienne Davos and Melisandre. Expect also some book reviews and hopefully a couple of film reviews!

That's all for this week! Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to visit my blog and leave comments. You guys are great!

  1. Ooooh, I never knew that about spiders! I'll have to give it a go; thank you! Looks like a good haul, as ever, and so many reviews posted! Go you.

    1. I was pleased at getting some reviews posted this I need to work on next week's! I'm determined to have a spider free life so we're going to hunt down the gits!

  2. My dog killed a spider yesterday. She likes to play with bugs, but she usually ends up squishing them because she’s huge. I have my can of spider spray. None of those things are coming in here.

Aj @ Read All The Things!

    1. WHY are they so hairy and horrible! If they looked like butterflies I wouldn't care! Wish I had a spider eating pet...

  3. I love the looks of Snow and I've asked for the new Harry Potter for Christmas. I'm sure you'll be back on track in no time. My Saturday is packed - vet appt (Cass weighed 110 pounds) grocery store, lunch with Grandpa, and then a wedding at 4:30 - all I want to do is stay home. Glad you found a way to fight your spiders!

    1. I've heard mixed reviews on Snow but I can never resist that kind of story and it was cheap so that was my excuse! My Saturday wasn't very exciting but can't complain! I never did get any reading done!

      Yes, die you spider bitches!

  4. You're reading Kilborn. His books are so twisted! Got to check out DMZ and that yeti book. I prefer a flame thrower when dealing with spiders. LOL

    1. I enjoyed Afraid and Trapped so I'm looking forward to Endurance now! I have a few of his books to read and I look forward to that. I've always thought a flamethrower was a good idea for spiders but having so many books that could be injured as innocent bystanders scuppered that plan!

  5. Anything that kills spiders works for me lol. Hate 'em. And you got The Yeti!!!! I looked at that book a while back and almost got it. Can't WAIT to see what you think.

    1. I'm terrified of the damn things I really am. I'm always scanning the house looking for them lurking around...Yeah I had to have some dinosaurs and Yeti in my life this month!

  6. I'm so sorry you are battling spiders. That spray sounds awesome. I'm going to try to track down some citronella to spray on my patio.

    1. Yeah they don't like that lemon scent and run away from it. I'm going mad buying lemon air fresheners and stuff for indoors now! Citrus peel on the floor is said to work but I've never tried it.

  7. Snow has a creepy cover!

I HATE spiders!! I am terrified! Unfortunately, our problem here in AZ is scorpions...Don't get me started, I might cry!

    1. I'm so glad we don't really get scorpions here...I really don't like them. I wonder if they would run from the citronella spray too, being related to spiders? Might be worth a try.

  8. I don't really mind spiders but I don't want to be roomies with them either. Glad you got the break you needed.

    1. *shudders* We're gradually rooting them out of their dark corners. If they weren't so ugly and hairy I'd be ok with them!

  9. thank you for sharing that tip to keep spiders away! as much as I love Halloweenish scary stuff I don't like real spiders in my real life! Can't wait to read your GoT review!

    1. I don't believe that we should share our homes with spiders! Peppermint is another smell they don't apparantly like so I might try that too.
