Chuckles Weekend Roundup

Welcome to my feature Chuckles Weekend Roundup where I will be looking at what books I've received, anything interesting I've done or bought or watched and other random stuff. I'll be taking a look back at what happened in my blogging world too, sort of like The Sunday Post that some of you do!

Please note that I'll be visiting your STS/SP as normal, but I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow DISQUS to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I am the only one who does that on my social media! I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account. Sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress-they try to block me because I deleted my account with them but I will persevere as it only happens the odd time!
****************
I'm still feeling minor effects from the remains of this stupid flu thing and it's annoying me now! Nothing major, just sneezing fits, feeling tired and a few dodgy stomachs but I really have had enough of it now. I know a few of you out there are having the same issue so I think we all need some book buying therapy! There, you have permission from Chuckles to splurge! On the reading side of things I have read about 100 pages of The Extinction Trials which has been interesting so far but I'm still not getting my reading mojo back which is strange. I'm not going to stress about it but I was REALLY annoyed that Goodreads had the nerve to email me to say I was way behind in my reading and should deal with it. Who the hell do they think they are??? They have no idea why someone is behind in their reading...it could be a death in the family or the person who received the email could be sick in hospital lor something and then Goodreads stick their beak in and upset everyone? Not right!

Anyway, rant concluded. I'm sharing more of last week's mega book splurge so here they come for your enjoyment! I picked up a mixture of free and bargain books but can't remember which was which so I'm just telling you guys what I did get.

Chuckles Blogging World
Blogging was non existant at the start of the week thanks to three days of computer issues. Things are working better now but it was frustrating...you guys all know what I'm talking about! It did put me way behind for the week though.

This week things were a bit of a mess so no sampling as I had planned. Around The Blogs was a bit late in being posted and was a bit short. Cover Love featured Richard Castle, Top Ten Tuesday was part two of my look at YA books that adults can enjoy and Can't Wait Wednesday was 300 miles, an apocalypse book about nuclear war. I've also joined another thing called Books From The Backlog hosted by Carole.

I started reading The Extinction Trials on Tuesday night but I haven't got back to it in the last two days. I hope to get on with it again tonight. Liking it so far.

 Next week on the blog
I hope to be back to a more normal service! It has actually been weeks of pure chaos and I have lots I need to do-like book reviews and an author feature. I can't find my notebook to write all the things out that I have planned.

  1. Sorry to hear you haven't gotten over completely from the flu and yes book buying therapy is the way to go! I'm so glad I have your permission because I have been on a dollar store spree since I realized they have great hardcovers!

    1. There is always a vital place for book therapy isn't there! I'm picking up plenty of free books I'm looking for so I'm happy with that. My cold is now down to occasional sneezing so I hope it is finally going.

  2. I love this weekly roundup. I need to do something like this. As for your rant, I didn't know they sent emails when you fall behind! I was behind last year, but I just delete most of my Goodreads emails, so I'm curious if I got any.

Obviously you do not need a reason to be behind! There's no shame in a goal that you set. Goodness, I even lowered my goal a few times last year. It just wasn't going to happen!

Glad you're starting to feel better but I know those last few days of being sick. It's like, okay sickness, I'm OVER THIS now. Move along!

    1. I didn't know about the emails either until it arrived! The joke is, I unsubscribed from all emails from Goodreads years ago so I should never be getting any! I really do hate these annoying interfering things! I wish they would just let me get on with it myself instead of trying to nanny me!

  3. Okay, it's not bad enough they mock you when you sign on..."you are ____ books behind" but now they are emailing people! When will the torment end. That's ridiculous. Mr. Barb was just diagnosed with pneumonia again today. He got a new round of meds. We thought he was getting better too, right before he got worse. I agree, book buying is in order. I hope you like Strange Practice. I need to read it too!

    1. I was pretty annoyed especially when I've been unsubscribed from all emails ever since I joined! My reading is a personal thing so I hate being made to feel like a failure because I'm having a few reading issues! I hope Mr Barb is feeling better very soon. He must be feeling pretty miserable right now. Please pass on my best wishes.

  4. Wow, you are right. I would not want Goodreads putting their big reminder nose into my business either. :( Thanks for the book buying go ahead. I'll take it. :)

    1. I like to enable others to book buy so you're welcome! And yeah, Goodreads need to mind their own business!

  5. Ooh you're reading Extinction Trials. I thoguht it started a bit slow until they get to Piloria or whatever it's called. And yay for splurging! I need little in the way of an excuse ha ha

    Hope you feel better soon!

    1. I've enjoyed what I've read so far but at the moment I feel tired all the time so I'm just not getting any reading done. If it gets better as it goes along, I should enjoy it!

  7. I hope you feel better soon. Enjoy your new books! I also got that email from Goodreads. I laughed. Sometimes I’m busy and have things to do besides reading. Chill out, Goodreads.

    1. It's just those final sneezing fits that are annoying me a bit and seem to be lingering. It kind of puts me off going food shopping in case I sneeze on the fresh veg or something!

  8. Wow, Goodreads, way to be super nosy! We do have lives that don’t always let us just read.

The Extinction Trials is one that I love to read, I hope you end up enjoying it. And I hope you got over the flu soon.

    1. It would be a great life if we could read and sloth any time we wanted with nothing else getting in the way! I hate these sites that think they can stick their noses in and tell us what we should be doing!

  9. Ugh, stupid sickness that won't just go away. But at least you are getting closer and closer to being well again. I really hate those ones that draaaaaag on forever. Nice haul - book splurges are the best. Happy Reading!

    1. Other than the odd sneezing fit I'm pretty much ok except for feeling tired all the time. Still, I can use that as an excuse for book buying therapy!

  10. God, I hate when a sickness just lingers...Feels like it takes everything out of you. I am hoping you get over that soon. Love the new book haul. Here's to having a better week!

    1. I'm pretty fed up for sure but it could have been so much worse. On the bright side I never had to go to hospital with it so I'm happy about that. I hope for a good week!

  11. I had one year that I barely made my Goodreads goal and I hated to log on that year and always see how far behind I was. So I have set my goal at 100 books since then and usually finish before summer is over. I like to be ahead not behind. Those emails are new...and a little odd. I hope you are feeling 100% very soon. Have a great week!

    1. It's depressing to get nagged by a book site! I think you have the right idea about setting the total lower to avoid all the pressure. If I can stop feeling tired and get reading regularly again, I can still get to my goal if Goodreads stop annoying me!
