Chuckles Weekend Roundup

Welcome to my feature Chuckles Weekend Roundup where I will be looking at what books I've received, anything interesting I've done or bought or watched and other random stuff. I'll be taking a look back at what happened in my blogging world too, sort of like The Sunday Post that some of you do!

Please note that I'll be visiting your STS/SP as normal, but I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow DISQUS to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I am the only one who does that on my social media! I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account. Sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress-they try to block me because I deleted my account with them but I will persevere as it only happens the odd time!

It's been a while since my last roundup and I have had a horrible time with the Aussie Flu. It is still lingering but in a much reduced form thankfully, but I just want the remnants to go away so I feel up to going out to face the world again! But other than a few sneezes and a headache, at the moment I'm ok and can taste my food, so I've been enjoying a nice box of chocolates! On the reading side of things I'm ploughing through another political non fiction book which I hope to finish today. It is interesting but it's hard going! After this I plan to try and get back to fiction. Trouble is, I'm busy watching the Commonwealth Games and cheering on all the home nations who are competing as Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It has been a great competition but tv coverage has not been as good as I hoped.

Anyone who saw my post yesterday knows that I released my inner book buying beast and splurged on a pile of ebooks! I seem to have put aside all my fears about the size of my tbr which used to stress me out, and instead I am embracing my book collecting! BUY ALL THE BOOKS! And if I'm going to be buried by the buggers, I'm taking all of you with me! So this week I've got 50 free books that were on my wishlist and I bought 8 other ebooks for around 99p-£2 which I'm also pleased with. It has been a pretty good week and I hope to add some reading to the schedule when the Commonwealth finishes during the week. That's the plan...

Chuckles Blogging World
I didn't blog during the worst of the flu so I wasn't too far behind on my blog comments when I came back. I did miss a lot of stuff on other blogs though and I had to miss out a lot of things to get caught up which was a shame. I'm doing fine this week overall.

Book Reviews
I concentrated on getting a few reviews for books I read last year up onto the blog.

Patricia Highsmith-Ripley's Game

Edwina Currie-Diaries 1987-1992

Edwina Currie-Diaries 1992-1997

Hunter Shea-Optical Delusion

Regular Posts
I did my usual Around the Blogs post but didn't have time to put together a samples post which I had planned. Maybe next week! Cover love looked at Mary Weber, Top Ten Tuesday was about YA books for adults to enjoy and Can't Wait Wednesday was about Hunter Shea's new release later this year, which caused some excitement! I also did a Game of Thrones Gossip about Jorah Mormont.

Currently Reading/Up Next
I'm reading a political non fiction book about the fall of Margaret Thatcher, which has been heavy going and I'll be glad to finish it! I'm hoping that I can go on to fiction next and get this one read.

Next week on the blog
I'm going to be doing most of my usual things. Cover Love features Richard Castle, Top Ten Tuesday continues with part two of my YA books for adults to enjoy, Can't Wait Wednesday features 300 Miles and Game of Thrones Gossip is all about The Boltons. I hope to get samples done or a discussion post but it will depend on time.

  1. I'm really looking forward to your thoughts on The Extinction Trials. I've been putting off buying it because I can't get it on Kindle so I'd be paying more than I'd like. I have Wolf Blood and keep meaning to read it and now the sequel is already out! Hope you have a nice relaxing weekend and I agree - BUY ALL THE BOOKS!

    1. I want to read it this week, now that the sport has finished. I have a lot of tv catchup to do though so it'll depend on time. I feel so much better embracing my book monster!

    1. Ah most of the posts are prewritten weeks in advance like Cover Love, TTT, CWW, Game of Thrones etc. The book reviews are the only thing I really write live!

  5. Oh my goodness, How Many Books?? I thought my NetGalley splurge last week was ambitious, but I didn't even hit double figures. I am envious!

    1. The good thing about my splurge is that as well as being free, there are no deadlines for getting it read and reviewed!

  6. The Dinosaur Four and Savage Earth are two that I want to read, too. I hope they're as good as they look. :)

  7. I'm sorry the flu still lingers. Sure hope it finally gets gone soon. Lots of awesome new reads. I was curious after your binge buying post. Peter Tremayne's books are fun. He really does bring up some interesting myths. I'm reading Into The Mist right now. So far, so good. Lots of dino chum. LOL

    1. It's annoying to still be sneezing all the time! I need to get rid of this so I can get out into the world again. I feel like a bear still in hibernation from November!!! I've had my eye on Peter's work for a while now but this was the first I found free.

    1. I wouldn't recommend catching it! I avoided it all winter then caught it in April...at my doctor's surgery!

  11. I've been sick with a sinus infection for a week now so I feel your pain! I can't remember the last time I was this sick - happily we are both on the mend now although when I stop coughing and can breathe like a normal person then I will be truly happy. Yay for embracing all the books ;) As long as they make you happy I just say go for it! I always have way too many but at least we have plenty of choices, right? Have a great week!

    1. Sinus infections are one of the worst things to get so you have my sympathy! Before I started getting the yearly flu jag I used to spend entire winters with sinus infections. I hope you feel better soon and Dr Chuckles prescribes book therapy!
