This series of posts will be about the coronavirus situation, how it is impacting me here in Scotland and interesting gossip and opinions I'm hearing through our media. I'll be posting as and when I have something to share but I take no responsibility for the accuracy of the news I share or the medical advice and opinion that I mention.
Chuckles Stress Level Friday 1pm
It was incredibly sad to hear the tragic news that our lovely blogger friend Karen over at http://www.fwiwreviews.net/ lost her brave and beautiful dog Fonzi to his health issues. I'm devastated for Karen and Kevin, and anyone who has ever lost a faithful hound will understand the agony they are going through. Karen, you guys are in our thoughts. In an unrelated piece of news, those of you who have read Jenny Lawson's books will be sorry to hear that her sister is sick with probable coronavirus. Hopefully Lisa will recover quickly and be back on her feet soon but it is a sobering reminder about how this virus is with us for the duration. Please self isolate if you are in an at risk group, work from home if you can, make sensible decisions and try to keep yourselves and your families safe.
Two days ago our dentist issued new restrictions on treatment-no fillings or anything requiring drilling and scaling. So guess what happened to Chuckles last night? Yes I broke a bloody tooth! I'm going to be stuck with that until this health crisis is over as I'm not in any pain and I can't honestly claim it is an emergency. I just can't believe my timing as usual. I did once break a tooth in 1996 a day before I was flying out to Dallas, Texas for a two week training course so it has happened to me before. Toothache and jet lag are not great to have together! Anyway, at least I have no pain. I only started going back to my dentist after about twenty years and I had a mouth full of chipped and broken teeth so I'm sure I can manage this time.
I was keeping watch out the window for my dad coming back from collecting the various medications for the family, so I could get my sterile wipes on to the door handles etc in case of outside germs. As the car pulled into the driveway, I sprang off the couch, tripped over my slippers and crashed into the living room door. Now I have sore wrists, elbows and knees from trying to stop myself headbutting the door! No damage done but I'm wondering if isolation is going to be safe for me if I keep doing stupid crap like that!!!
A week ago, my dad and I took a trip to the local supermarket to get in some treat items in case there was any kind of self isolation instruction. The shelves were full, we got everything we needed, shoppers were calm and not panic buying...everything was relaxed. I was also able to get delivery on anything I was looking for on Amazon. Was that seven days ago??? Now we have empty shelves, a cut in opening hours, limits on what we can buy, fights over bog roll, panic buying, queues to get into supermarkets, price gouging online to a disgusting level, closures of schools, orders to self isolate, transport cuts, soaring infection rates...it all just seems to have gone a bit mad in no time at all. It certainly feels like I'm in one of my apocalypse books now. It still doesn't feel quite real. One set of neighbours are self isolating-they're in their sixties. I'm pleased because I've known them all my life and hope they stay safe.
My dad and I are now officially in self isolation. No more supermarket runs thankfully-not that there is much to buy in our local ones. I got another delivery of cheese through the post today and a 24 pack of ice coffee. Nothing like having the treats eh? I can't wait to fill out my cheeseboard this weekend and finally relax. Maybe I'll even feel like reading...!
Stay safe everyone.

Sorry about your broken tooth. At least it's not causing you any pain. And no more crashing into doors!!! ;D
ReplyDeleteI can't believe my luck...I actually WANT to go to the dentist for once!!! Yes the flying faceplant was not pretty!
DeleteSo sorry to hear about your broken tooth! How awful. Try not to bang yourself up too much in self isolation!
ReplyDeleteTypical luck huh! I'll be ok until it's safe to get back to a dentist. Most are only taking emergencies now.
DeleteI hate to hear about your broken tooth and the fall you took. It is amazing to see so many empty store shelves and not be able to find things online to purchase. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteThe fall was a good one! I swear I'm the clumsiest person in the world. Yet I've never broken a bone! I'm more in danger from myself than anything else I think!
