The Coronavirus Diaries Isolation Day 2

This series of posts will be about the coronavirus situation, how it is impacting me here in Scotland and interesting gossip and opinions I'm hearing through our media. I'll be posting as and when I have something to share but I take no responsibility for the accuracy of the news I share or the medical advice and opinion that I mention.

There is growing anger online at the people who are flouting the request for social distancing by going on holiday, congregating in public places and generally being a selfish ass. There is now a Twitter hashtag on the subject called #COVIDIOT There are examples of true stupidity from around the world that boggle the mind. You can see a few of the posts retweeted on my Twitter account today. For those of you who are not Trump fans, this has been doing the rounds again and I just had to laugh at it.

I had said that I was isolating except anything vital from the local shops but I changed my decision on that based on government advice today. As of tomorrow, my dad and I are fully housebound to home and garden for three months minimum. No going out for any reason until we can safely do so according to the UK government. We have all we need for that period and beyond, and I'm still using Amazon for delivery of things like cheese, iced coffee and the odd other thing to keep us happy. My dad needs to get a prescription into our pharmacy tomorrow and I'm doing the same-that should avoid us going near the pharmacy for six weeks until the next medication is due. We're getting them to deliver it on Wednesday to our door. In six weeks I'll be gloved and masked to drop off the next prescription so I'll be totally safe.

I tried to get our newspapers delivered but it seems that none of the local shops do that anymore! I couldn't believe it. It's like a British institution, getting a daily paper delivered! That means no newspapers for months! My dad is REALLY annoyed about it but what can you do? We just have to go without a Times or Daily Mail as I ain't risking my health for it! I'll have to suspend my news scrapbook as well. Several neighbours have offered help if we need it which is great but we don't want to impose on them daily y'know? They're a good bunch around us, I'm pleased to say.

Rand Paul tests positive for the virus. Ironic when he went to great lengths to stop that virus funding bill, which I've been reading about this week. Lots of people online are furious that Paul was given a coronavirus test when he had no symptoms and did not think he had been in contact with an infected person, but wanted one because he travels a lot. Uh huh. What about all the healthcare workers in the US who can't get tested, who are risking their lives daily to treat people? What about the sick people not being tested? What about emergency workers? But it seems we can always find a test for those like Pence and Paul eh?

Stay safe everyone.

  1. I love that you're doing these posts. Thanks for keeping us updated on your situation there- it's really interesting to see what others' experiences are! I keep waiting for the US to go into nationwide lockdown but at the moment it seems like states are being left to their own devices. We'll see how that impacts "flattening the curve" and whatnot.

And I feel the same way about Rand Paul. Ugh.

That Late Show video cracked me up!

    1. With all those states doing their own thing and the confusing situation, it must be hard to get a national thing going. I can see some areas in crisis and others doing ok. I had a penpal who fell out with me because I didn't want her to send me election literature about Ron Paul...

  2. Thanks for sharing these. I find them very comforting to see what other people are experiencing and thinking. COVIDiots is a PERFECT term for a lot of these people. I think our state is close to ordering a "stay in place" order. I think they need to because some places/people aren't smart enough to do it by themselves.

    1. The new snowflake generation seem to need to be told to do everything in life using a digital device! If someone yelled fire, they wouldn't leave the building until some digital assistant told them to!
