I decided for a change to talk about the music that I enjoy. I listen to 60's-80's music, rock, motown, country, soul, glam rock, disco...that kind of thing. My dad loves EDM, house, dance and happy hardcore-I think each of us were born in the wrong generation!
My early years were dominated by my parents playing older music to me, along with albums released in the late 70's and early 80's that they bought. I started school around 1978 so I pretty much grew up on disco and 80's music, which is still a big favourite of mine. I'm going to look at some of my favourite LPs from the period I was at school.

What were your favourite albums from this time period or from your own schooldays?

I love Bon Jovi's New Jersey. (And all their other CDs, too.) I saw them in concert several times back in the day. Abba is a favorite, too! :)
ReplyDeleteI pretty much grew up on Abba with my parents being big fans! You can imagine how excited I was by the Mamma Mia film when it first came out!
DeleteI ADORE Billy Joel (I have all his CDs and even his boxset!), and the Kids from Fame were my life! I mean, the show was, but I loved the songs as well of course - still do. Queen is my favourite band, and like you, I love most of '70s/'80s music, from disco to rock. I was born in 1966, so I grew up with that stuff. From Gloria Gaynor, Earth Wind & Fire and Village People to Genesis, Supertramp and Eurythmics, to just name a few.
ReplyDeleteI was a big Billy Joel fan too! Everyone in my school watched the kids from Fame and I completed the sticker album that came out!The music from the 60's to 80's is so much better than what I hear in the charts today! Ah yes EWF did some great tunes!
DeleteI see some albums I love on this list. The Joshua Tree was huge when I was in high school, as well as Like a Virgin, and Green. I moved to New Jersey during my teens, so Springsteen and Bon Jovi were mainstays. Oddly enough, my favorite bands were all English - The Cure, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Mighty Lemon Drops, The Wonderstuff, etc.
ReplyDeleteI liked a lot of that music too...The Smiths, Stone Roses, Inspiral Carpets, James, Jesus Jones, Depeche Mode, The Charlatans, Wonder Stuff, Wedding Present...Music used to be something I listened to a lot but in recent years I seem to be too busy reading to listen to much!
DeleteI love the Fright Night sound Track. There are a couple of songs on there that are still favorites. But these days I listen to hard rock and metal. Bands like Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Korn and Device. Althought I do listen to a lot of others as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of the original film but only have the soundtrack on cassette so far. I have Teen Wolf on vinyl but really need the albums on cd! I like rock and metal but I'm not up on any of the modern bands as I sort of live in a timewarp that goes up to the 90's!
DeleteI don't listen to as much music as I used to. I'm out of the loop about new stuff for the most part. Sadly.
ReplyDeleteSame here Laura. I stopped listening to new music somewhere in the 90's! Franz Ferdinand is as modern as I get unless I see the odd song I like on TV or something.
DeleteI love a few of these! U2, Bon Jovi, INXS, Abba is music I grew up listening to thanks to my mum.
ReplyDeleteThe Grease soundtrack just rocks. I loved that movie when I was a pre-teen... And kinda still do but it's been a long time. :)
I had the Grease LP which I never parted with but now I have the cd to listen to! I loved that film as a kid. There were so many great sounds through the 70's and 80's and I love listening to it!
DeleteFirst of all I love your little picture at the top - so cool! I was in high school and college late 80s and early 90s so a lot on your list would be on mine. I saw Bon Jovi in concert three times, Aerosmith once, Poison three times and many mores. I'm a very eclectic music listener just like with books. Of course you know I love Prince and always listen to him. I do adore The Barenaked Ladies and I don't see them mentioned much but they definitely were big in my college scene. What a wonderful post!
ReplyDeleteMy college years were 1991 -1994...we were still into the Indie bands from the late 80's. I did see The Charlatans and The Shamem live. The Shamen was anti-poll Tax demo in George Square. It was freezing cold and we were the only people there with no drink or drugs!
