Chuckles Weekend Roundup

Welcome to my feature Chuckles Weekend Roundup where I will be looking at what books I've received, anything interesting I've done or bought or watched and other random stuff. I'll be taking a look back at what happened in my blogging world too, sort of like The Sunday Post that some of you do!

Please note that I'll be visiting your STS/SP as normal, but I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow DISQUS to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I am the only one who does that on my social media! I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account. Sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress-they try to block me because I deleted my account with them but I will persevere as it only happens the odd time!

It has been a week of catch up for sure. In my last Friday post I said that I was taking a week off the blog to lounge around and have a break after my DIY and housework. That turned into a surprise holiday arranged by my dad and I ended up having a seaside break instead. I got back on Sunday and have been trying to catch up on posting blog posts, replying to comments, visiting blogs and more dreaded housework. I do seem to be pretty much back on track now which is good. The irony is that I didn't read a single thing on holiday! I've only read a few short stories since I got back but I do plan to get back into my reading in the coming week.

Naturally, I was book and dvd buying while I was away. I used the famous 'I'm on holiday!' excuse to buy more than I should have done but somehow, I feel no guilt! Now I just need to find a spare bit of shelf for the books I can't fit in and get the dvds watched. Yeah, that could take a while! I'm not sharing all the dvds we got, just what I bought myself!

My dad bought a few superhero boxsets and dvds like the 3 Thor films, Logan and The Wolverine, Deadpool, a pile of Korean films, the Planet of the Apes trilogy, a couple of westerns and Danny Trejo films, a couple of things with Jason Mamoa and Steven Seagal and some cheap horror films. Nice!

I didn't read anything during my holiday and since I got back, I've only managed to find time to read a few bits of free serial novels to clear them off my ereader. I've got a few other short stories to look at and then I need to get back into proper books! I'm hoping to look at this one later this week...

Next week on the blog
Cover Love will feature Elisabeth Wheatley, Top Ten Tuesday will be about my summer tbr, Can't Wait Wednesday is The Farm, Books From The Backlog is Endurance, Chuckles Chat is scenarios we love and hate in historical fiction and Game of Thrones Gossip is all about Davos.

  1. Congrats on catching up! Strange Practice looks like a weird book. I’ll be interested to hear what you think of it. Have a great weekend!

    1. I liked the sample when I tried it. I did have the ebook but I couldn't help grabbing the paperback when I saw it! I hope it turns out to be good! I plan to read it sooner rather than later.

  2. That was so nice of your dad and it sounds like you had some fun and a nice rest. Wow, those are some good looking books. I've loved Creed and The Finest Hour - both are awesome. I really want to watch both Paddington movies. Have you seen the new Winnie-the Pooh trailer? I could watch it all day! The pups said to make sure I tell Auntie Chuckles hi!

    1. I wish he'd give me more than a day to get packed and ready though! *grins* I haven't see the first Paddington but it looks like a lot of fun. I haven't seen the Pooh trailer yet...I always felt sorry for him because he isn't very smart! Give a big cuddle to your boys!

    1. It was great...I wish I was still there! I love being close to the water and relaxing on a nice day! We kind of went overboard but you sort of have to on a holiday don't you!

  4. Vacations are the #1 reason for buying books! I brought home so many when Mom and I went to Scotland and England, then again from Ireland and Amsterdam. I practically needed an extra suitcase for them all, haha. Sounds like you had a nice relaxing time, well-deserved!

    1. I don't really spend my money on anything else so I feel no guilt at all! I'm glad I didn't have to take them through an airport and pay excess on them!

  5. Now that's some mighty find books and movies! I'm going to my favorite used book store tomorrow. I hope I find at least half as many as you did. I don't seem to read when I'm away on vacation either, even though I make sure I have plenty of books in case I want to. Weird. LOL

    1. I hope you had some happy hunting for books! I need to get into some kind of routine where I can fit in reading, TV and films and be more productive! On holiday I tend to be tired after a full day and just want to flop in front of the TV though this time I took a portable dvd player and a few favourite films to chill out with...

  6. Oh that on holiday excuse is dangerous! I end up with bags and bags of stuff! You got some fantastic books and movies. I really want to see Suicide Squad, Victoria, and The Crown. I had kind of saved the last two for when my husband was out of town for work because most of my regular TV is kind of murder-y and I've discovered that's dangerous when by myself. But then his trip got cancelled and another one keeps getting moved around and I still haven't watched either! Soon though! Enjoy all your new books and welcome back!

    1. It's not a holiday until we overspend on stuff! Trouble is, my holiday lasts a week after I get home so the spending moves online! I agree that watching murdery things when alone can be bad for the nerves so a bit of monarchy is a better idea! I'm looking forward to watching both series. Fitting it in is another matter....

  8. Yay for new DVD's/ books! And yay also for your seaside break- nice! Glad you had a great time. I often end up not reading much on vacation either, it just seems to happen. :)

I just started The Extinction Trials: Exile- so glad to be in that universe again- and I liked Suicide Squad even though not everyone did. It's okay! And Geostorm looks awesome!

    1. It's funny that so many of us look forward to a break from routine so we can read and relax, but then we get no reading done! I really want to get started on Exile too! I'm looking at two book lists at the moment-the exciting books I want to read now, and books from the backlog on the ereader that I should be dealing with...problems, problems!

  12. I am so glad that you had the chance to get away and were able to pick up some goodies at the same time. I cannot wait to hear what you think of Boy on the Bridge. I loved The Girl With All the Gifts but haven't decided if I should read the second book yet.
