Finally, I'm Back!

Hi everyone! I'm finally back online so I'll tell you what I've been up to. The plan was to take a week to rest and relax at home and fit in some reading but my dad surprised me by sneakily booking a full week's holiday at Blackpool, my favourite place! I got home yesterday afternoon but only managed to get a few blogs visited before I retreated upstairs to unpack! Dad figured that we needed a proper break, a bit of fresh air and an excuse to spend money on things we love like dvds and books! Who was I to argue! I took my furry monkey Wong with me, as seen in the photos, above at Blackpool Tower, and below with Central Pier behind him.

The weather was in the 20's all week which was a surprise. Usually Blackpool is quite windy and you get rain at some point during your stay but other than a sea breeze it was hot and a bit humid for seven days. A bit of a shock to my system but I won't complain as on our last visit it rained all week with high winds and we hardly got out! When we arrived on Sunday we were going for a walk along the south beach, chomping a jumbo hotdog with onions and tomato sauce...yum! Monday was a similar day then on Tuesday we went to the shopping area around the Tower where I went to Waterstones and then we hit HMV and spent a lot! We also got photos of a war plane being displayed on the prom, see below. It was a bit breezy so sadly they had to take the wings off!

On Wednesday we went along the coast on the tram to the seaside area of Cleveleys where my dad hunted through the numerous charity shops while Wong and I sat on the sea front and watched the boats go by, see below. They had one of those cool advertising inflatable things that dance about which I had to photograph. You can see my dad in the middle one.

Thursday saw us going shopping where I got Prince Harry and Meghan stamps and a souvenir spoon for my collection. My dad was in the charity shops, buying fancy dragon shirts from a market and the betting shop...and he won!

On Friday we travelled the full 11 miles by tram to the port of Fleetwood. It has an RNLI lifeboat station so I bought a few things from their shop to make a donation including some cheesy biscuits, clotted cream shortbread, an RNLI hat and fudge for my dad! We had a nice rest in the beautiful gardens beside the seafront so my dad could birdwatch, a stroll on the seafront and then back on the tram to HMV and Waterstones again!

I'll be talking more about my purchases on my weekend post on Friday. It took a while to unpack everything when I got back. Why do we always take a ton more than we actually need??? And now I have the washing and ironing to look forward to...groan! We plan on having a rest this week to recover from the sore backs, legs and hips that the holiday gave us and then get back into tidying the place up again.

Anyone had a nice holiday this year?

  1. It sounds like a nice, relaxing vacation! It's great that you and your dad get along so well and do fun things together (and also the tidying-up part LOL).

    1. I did more walking on this holiday than the rest of the year put together I think so that got my back and legs needing a bit of a rest now! Just dreading the post holiday ironing pile...

  2. Welcome back! I love the photos! It sounds like a fun trip. If I ever went book shopping on vacation, my family would stand outside the shop and look annoyed until I came out.

    1. Luckily my dad isn't bothered and it does give him more time to browse the dvds in the shop next door!

  3. There you are! I was starting to get worried. What a lovely surprise from your father. It sounds like you both had a great time and it must've been nice to see some sites and leave the blog behind for a bit. I have a staycation planned next month and I'll likely step completely away from my laptop and just do fun things.

    1. Thanks for worrying! I did mention taking a week off the internet on my last friday weekend post but the plan morphed into a sunday to sunday holiday at short notice as our favourite hotel was quiet and could take us! It's weird coming back to a shedload of stuff to catch up with!

  5. Oh what lovely pictures and what a fun surprise. Looks like Wong had a good time too :)! Laundry after a vacation is always nuts. I think it takes me twice as long to get all that taken care of than the vacation itself took. We've only done a few weekend trips so far this year. Our big trip is Disney World but that won't be until October.

    1. Wong told me to tell you that he had a great time! I like taking monkey selfies instead of my ugly face! I'm waiting for the first load of washing to dry before I tackle the second lot as we have little space to hang stuff up! I'm trying not to think about ironing it!!! Ooh a trip to Disney will be lovely...bet you're looking forward to that!

  6. WELCOME BACK!!! Your trip sounds like an absolute blast! The only place I went to this year so far is to Miami, Florida. It was alright. I am not a huge fan of the sun, but it was an experience to remember! Can't wait to read your Friday post :)

    1. Oh dear, Florida is a bit hot for sun haters! That was always my fear about going. I wilted in the heat in Dallas and we went during May in 1996! I'm itching to share my purchases and for once I look forward to my Friday post!
