Book Review: Eternal Kiss of Darkness by Jeaniene Frost (Night Huntress World #2)

An immortal war has been brewing in the darkness . . . And now one woman has stumbled into the shadows.

Chicago private investigator Kira Graceling should have just kept on walking. But her sense of duty refused to let her ignore the moans of pain coming from inside a warehouse just before dawn. Suddenly she finds herself in a world she's only imagined in her worst nightmares.

At the center is Mencheres, a breathtaking Master vampire who thought he'd seen it all. Then Kira appears, this fearless, beautiful . . . human who braved death to rescue him. Though he burns for her, keeping Kira in his world means risking her life. Yet sending her away is unthinkable.

But with danger closing in, Mencheres must choose either the woman he craves, or embracing the darkest magic to defeat an enemy bent on his eternal destruction.

My Review:
After enjoying the first spin-off book featuring Denise and Spade, I moved on to this one but I didn't really like it. I find Mencheres a good enough character in the Night Huntress books when he appears in scenes but I don't feel that he has the charisma or interest to be the main hero in a book of his own. I got tired of his suicidal attitude and comments about his non sex life all the time. I just didn't connect with him as a solo male lead and prefer him as part of the ensemble in Night Huntress.

I liked Kira as a female lead though and thought that she was much more interesting, with all her family problems. She made a pretty good match for our Angel type brooding vampire so she wasn't the problem.

I just never got into the book and the plot was pretty slow to get into. I found my mind wandering constantly and I'd plough through a chapter and then leave the book a few days before forcing myself to go back to it. After a few weeks of this I made the decision to abandon it. I know how they meet so that will do me for reference for the Night Huntress series if they feature in upcoming books. I will read a solo book about Ian though...
