This tag was originally created by Naty at https://natysbookshelf.wordpress.com/ . I was tagged by Bookstooge at https://bookstooge.wordpress.com/ and now I'd like to see what is on all your bookshelves! Go on, it's fun! I'm trying to use this tag to show the range of books that I actually have in my home and I've adapted the original tag for that purpose. These are all books I physically own and have read.
Naty's questions:
1) A library book
I don't use our local library because the book choice is poor. I buy second hand books from the American company Better World Books who recycle library books that would otherwise be thrown away, at cheap prices. I tend to use them to try books I'm less sure about like the occasional cozy mystery, political and history, new authors etc. I have four books in this series, all ex library in great condition!
2) A book you got as a gift
I pretty much buy all my books now as my dad doesn't have any idea what books I'm looking to buy! I'm going to go back to a paperback book I won in a Goodreads giveaway as that is a gift right? It was an excellent Tudor fiction book about Henry VIII's sixth wife Katherine Parr.
3) A childhood book
I read so much as a kid and went through everything the local library had-Roald Dahl, Enid Blyton, Sweet Dreams, Sweet Valley High, Cheerleaders, The Black Stallion, Silver Brumby. Most of these books are sadly no longer with me as I had to get rid of them for space but I do still have a book from my very young days that I still enjoy reading!
4) A magical book
I'm afraid I just can't look beyong Harry Potter for this one! I love my beautiful set and this book has such a gorgeous cover!
5) A romantic book
I don't read romance but this YA series has background bittersweet romance that I was rooting for. The characters were great, the bad guys were evil and there was action and humour. I love this four book series!
6) A steamy book
I don't read that kind of book and try to avoid books heavy on sex. The exception is in historical books as long as they have scheming and scandal. So I'm going with a book that features incest and a twisted heroine who will stop at nothing to get control of her family estate.
7) An old book
I don't read the classics but one of the oldest books I actually own is my 1986 edition of this book which I love!
8) A book that makes you happy
Two of my favourite things in books are twisted gameshows and dinosaurs. Finding a 5 star read that features contestants in a game zone trying to evade every dinosaur you can imagine made me very happy!
9) A book that makes you emotional
I shed so many tears when I read this book! It was heartbreaking! I'm scared to watch the film now because I know it will finish me off!
10) A book whose ending you dislike
I don't keep books in my collection if I really hated the ending. There is a series that started so well but by the third book the author had killed off a character and took the story in a direction that really annoyed me.
11) A book you wish had illustrations
I'm not really one for needing illustrations in my books though I do own the illustrated Harry Potters which are gorgeous! Instead I'm going to showcase a gorgeous illustrated book about the world of Westeros.
12) A book or genre you love reading when it is raining
I don't read specific books because of changes in the weather. I pick out what I plan to read for the month and get on with it regardless of rain, sun or snow! I'm just going to pick out a book that features rain being important to the plot.
Chuckles questions
13) A book with a creepy or horror vibe
Lots to choose from so lets go for Who Killed Dracula!
14) A non fiction book
I had plenty to choose from here!
15) A book that is out of this time or space
I'm going with a book which features time travel and trying to change your future to save those you care about. I loved this series!
16) A book set in another land
This is a land that would fascinate me with its castles, rivers, scenic landscapes but I'd never want to live there!
17) A book that made you think
This was my first book about an EMP and how everything would change so quickly for the worst. I was scared but fascinated by the way the MC dealt with home security, food, water and other preperations and it really got me thinking what I'd do in that situation and what I could do to be ready for any upcoming trouble.
18) A book with a monster (friendly or otherwise!)
I totally love Maurice The Closet Monster who cleans, cooks, bakes when he is nervous or upset and helps his roomie Zoey run a haven for monsters in trouble! I love these books!
19) A book with a cover you love
I totally love these gorgeous covers in the series and the great snakeskin type effect of the cover on the paperbacks!
20) A favourite book series
Arisen is the greatest zombie series ever and I love it!

My goodness, that was a quick turn-around! I guess I'm just used to using myself as a benchmark for getting around to doing tags :-D
ReplyDeleteIn regards to number 17, a book that made you think. I have to wonder, why hasn't some of those nutjob countries actually carried something like this out? Are they technologically not capable or is the rest of the world keeping enough of an eye on them that we stop them before they get too far? Nothing like a good "I wonder..." :-)
I think it might well come. I heard that Russia have a mass of underground shelters built for the civilian populations in case of trouble and I doubt the US and UK are doing that. We'll be on our own if an EMP hits! North Korea are too concerned about revenge attacks to try it I think but Russia might. I need to somehow stockpile more food!
DeleteI love this!! :)
ReplyDeleteIt was a fun tag!
DeleteYou have a good compilation of books. I have a few horror books on my shelves but most are romance at this point since that's what I mostly read these days.
ReplyDeleteI never read romance personally but I love my horror and apocalypse!
DeleteNow that's a blast from the past - I'd totally forgotten about the Silver Brumby books! I had the whole series and read them until they fell apart :-)
ReplyDeleteI read mine so many times! It was a wrench to finally give them to a charity shop!
DeleteSuch a great list of books! I loved Future Shock, and totally want to read The Valley. :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to watch The Valley on TV every Saturday night!
DeleteFun tag! I have some ex library books on my shelf too. If they are in good shape, it is great to be able to take you time with them. Alone sounds really good.
ReplyDeleteI love Darrell Maloney! I have more than one shelf dedicated to his books! He knows how to build up apocalypse tension! The ex library books on Amazon's marketplace are a good cheap way to try new authors!
DeleteI don't have any of my childhood books (except my grade school Bible). The closest I come is my copy of Winnie Ille Pooh (Winnie the Pooh in Latin) from high school. I think it's awesome you still have a book from when you were a child.
ReplyDeleteI never get tired of reading it!
DeleteThis was a fun Q and A! Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteIt was a fun tag to do!
DeleteGreat answers and I'm not surprised to see The Extinction Trial or the Monster Haven series listed here at all. Glad your risk at Better World Books turned out great this time!
ReplyDeleteI've bought a lot of second hand books from Better World Books and they are always in good condition. I don't mind waiting a few weeks for delivery! I just recently got three more books in the Sophie Kimball series from them!
DeleteI was curious what you would use for the romance books as I know you don't usually read that genre:) I have got to check out The Valley now! Dinosaurs!
ReplyDeleteI can never resist dinosaur books! There will be a couple featured on my weekend post next week!
DeleteFun tag! I’ve been entering Goodreads giveaways for years and have never won one. It has to happen someday, right?
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I've won ONE in about ten years! I've entered hundreds!
DeleteWow, you have some amazing picks here. What fun. I will have to check out some of these. I win a bunch of GR giveaways. IDK why maybe because I am US? In fact I try not to enter anymore cause my living room is now full of books along with my library. =)
ReplyDeleteMary
I sort of gave up on Goodreads giveaways as I never win! I think being UK based is often a disadvantage as the same US winners seem to keep winning which is a bit unfair on the rest of us! *glares at Mary* *giggles*
