Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish
in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of
2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to
bring bookish friends together. http://www.thatartsyreadergirl.com/top-ten-tuesday/

I don't like the topic again. With the books I read like horror and apocalypse, you don't want to switch with any characters. I'm looking at the worst places to be in a horror plot, but great things to read about!
1) Boats
The boat can sink, you can be surrounded by killer sharks and sea monsters that slither onto your boat, a killer stalking through the corridors, zombie outbreaks, stowaways carrying a deadly virus, pirate terror attacks, floating adrift with dwindling supplies...
2) Islands
There always seems to be something going wrong on an island paradise. Trapped by a huge megalodon offshore, a deadly storm heading your way, cannibals living in the trees, nasty tropical insects and animals waiting to attack you, reality TV shows filmed there going badly wrong, targeted by smugglers and pirates...
3) Jungles
Here we have the jungle cruise from hell where the boat sinks and there are nasties in the water, big huge mutant snakes and spiders trying to eat you as you travel to safety, big jungle cats chewing on your bones, dinosaurs on the attack, cannibals lurking in the trees...
4) Cities
You really don't want to be in a city when the apocalypse comes unless you want to battle with gangs, zombies, looters, killers and rapists. If you are trying to get home you don't want to go near the cities! If you live there you could be the target for an EMP or nuclear attack.
5) Mines and Tunnels
You can be on a dig or expedition and someone always wants to explore the abandoned mines and tunnels with who knows what lurking in the dark! There could be a deadly underground tribe waiting to rape and murder, all kinds of horrible giant insects and monsters in the dark waiting for you. Stay in the sunlight people!
6) Research Stations
Oh dear! Here we have the possibility of things waking up in the surrounding ice, viruses breaking out of containment, a colleague going psycho and killing everyone, something mutated escaping from the labs, dangerous trips out in bad weather to collect samples and take readings and local wildlife wanting to eat you!
7) Camping
Whether it is a tent in the forest, a mountain hike or an RV in a campground, it rarely goes well does it. Cannibals in the woods, serial killers with big knives lurking in the dark, rapist inbreds kidnapping women and wild animals putting you on the buffet!
8) Cabins
It sounds great doesn't it-that isolated cabin in the woods for a quiet holiday. But of course that isn't going to happen! If your cabin isn't infested with the Evil Dead, you might find that the place itself turns you mad. In an apocalypse, the cabin might be safe but getting to it could be deadly. Then there is the fear of everything out in the woods!
9) Water
Watch out for the alien lake monsters, piranha in the rivers near summer camps and resorts, sharks at the beach, parasites coming out of the shower head, a dam being blown up by terrorists, a deadly flood or cursed rain that turns you into zombies!
10) Swamps
Don't take that Everglades tour! You know what is out there! Sasquatches lurking in the trees, giant gators wanting to eat you, humidity wearing you down as someone or something chases you through the swamp, rednecks waiting to eat or torture you or some kind of legendary mythical monster out there in a lair waiting to grab you!

So pretty much no place is safe! I love how you did this week. I struggled with this week's topic but managed to come up with some. You should appreciate the Anita Blake humor I threw in.
ReplyDeletePretty much! And don't stay home or psycho serial killers might get you! I did like your Anita Blake mention!
DeleteI would not want to be on water! I’m a terrible swimmer. I’d drown while trying to escape from the creepy beast.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I'm not the strongest swimmer either but I'd be more worried about sharks and sea monsters!
DeleteLOL Looks like you covered all of my favorites. The world is a dangerous place:) Makes me think of that line from Scream. Don't ever say you'll be right back.
ReplyDeleteThe world certainly is dangerous when I'm reading about it, especially these expeditions!
DeleteI think my favs have to be islands and mine or tunnels. Just the idea of being trapped or isolated is terrifying without adding the whole horror story :)
ReplyDeleteI love all of these scenarios and have lots waiting for me to read! It'll be a summer of scares!
DeleteYes! I wouldn't want to get stuck in any of these places when bad things start to happen. (But they are all great places to read about.) :D
ReplyDeleteI do love reading all of these kinds of books!
DeleteIt's amazing how so many scary things happen in these places, which seem rather innocuous. Fun choice of topic. If I had to pick a top two, it would be in the water or camping . So many terrifying things happen in those settings in horror movies.
ReplyDeleteCamping is something I could never do as every noise would have me totally on edge!
DeletePretty comprehensive list, the only place I can think of that is missing is an airplane - as someone who is a nervous flyer, that would be my worst nightmare!
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
I'm not the greatest fan of flying either!
DeleteAWESOME list! I'm a sucker for horror novels set in cabins! :)
ReplyDeleteThere's just something about these cabins in the woods plots that I just love!
DeleteNo place is safe! I have to agree. I really love ghost stories and stuff in the woods. Those are my favorite horror reads.
ReplyDeleteMary
The woods are just perfect for all things creepy!
