I read that post about apologizing for your book choices. I used to totally agree with that blogger's idea, but the older I get, the snobbier I get. Plus I'm not willing to put up with the absolute trash that masquerades as YA "books".
ReplyDeleteI don't know that people need to apologize for reading that stuff. However, if their reading tastes don't mature in some way, and a 50 year old reads nothing BUT ya, well, I think that speaks volumes about the person. Part of maturing is being confident BUT also realizing that you need a well rounded book diet. So read that ya trash, enjoy it and review, but make sure you're reading things to balance it out too.

I never say sorry for my reading choices as I read purely for entertainment but I accept that others maybe don't like or don't get my reasons for liking certain things. As long as everyone stays respectful in discussions, I'm fine with that!
DeleteBack around 2010, I branched out into trying lots of new book genres. I found a few things I liked ie Tudor fiction, mountain disaster NF, and things I just didn't like ie contemporary, western themed etc. With so many Indie books coming out in each genre I like, I'm not experimenting anymore, except maybe the odd book outside my comfort zone that sounds good.
I know a few of these blogs, I'll have to visit the others.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your blog visits!
DeleteThanks so much for the shout outs!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! I think the reviews will interest quite a few people!
DeleteGood grief I think I missed most of these! I do need to get the Sun Down Motel though...
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to miss stuff when things get busy!
DeleteHopping now! :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy...

You're welcome!
DeleteSome great links this week and thanks for the shout out! No one should ever have to apologize for what they read right?
ReplyDeleteNothing gets my hair on end like a scary zombie, gory creature feature, chilling horror or end of the world scenario and I won't say sorry for loving any of it! As long as we all enjoy what we read, that's what counts really.
DeleteI loved Sam's post about not apologising for your reading choices. It's something I refuse to do alongside me refusing to be told what I should/should not read. :)
ReplyDeleteYes I'm in total agreement with you! I'm now comfortable with the book genres I like and don't like and as long as I'm happy, that's ok!
