I'm tweaking this week's topic and looking at some of the really interesting characters I've found in my books. I make no apologies for my Game of Thrones obsession!
1) Tyrion Lannister-A Song of Ice & Fire
Tyrion is intelligent, funny, witty and manipulative, with a difficult relationship with his family and pretty much everyone in Westeros! I loved his humour, I felt his pain and he is my favourite character in the books and TV series.
2) Myrnin-The Morganville Vampires
Myrnin is a vampire scientist of great intelligence who becomes mentally damaged after being tortured by enemies. He loves vampire bunny slippers, killing people, Bob his pet spider and Hawaiian shirts. Funny, dangerous and heartbreakingly sad at times.
3) Maurice-Monster Haven
Maurice is a Closet Monster with anxieties. He loves to cook and clean, bakes when he's nervous and can turn into a scary monster when his friends are being threatened. He is so sweet that I just want to cuddle him!
4) Murderbot
This is an armed security robot, programmed to protect the humans he works with. He is addicted to a space drama series called Sanctuary Moon, and has a variety of social anxieties when he interacts with humans. He is so funny!
5) Pennywise-It
Best book bad guy ever. A creepy clown that can take the shape of any monster you fear and a child killer. He has been around Derry forever, at the scene of every disaster in its history. He is scary and horrible but fascinating!
6) Varys-A Song of Ice & Fire
Varys is such a great character. He has the greatest spy network ever seen and knows almost everything of note that is happening. I'd love to sit down for a gossip with him. But there is that sinister and dangerous side to him that fascinates me.
7) Giguhl-Sabina Kane
He's a Mischief Demon who can turn into a grumpy hairless cat, sidekick to a half mage half vampire. He likes to fight in clubs, train paranormal Roller Derby teams and is addicted to buying gadgets on the shopping channels. He's tough and funny!
8) Henry VIII
Yes I know he's a real person but he is featured a lot in fiction. I never get tired of reading about his scandals, his wives and mistresses and his Court. He is complex and interesting with his great loves, tendency to behead and foul tempers.
9) Oberon-Iron Druid
When it comes to animal sidekicks Oberon is great. This Irish Wolfhound talks mentally with his druid owner and he is addicted to sausages, word games, quotations and French poodles. He is faithful and funny and I love this dog!
10) Littlefinger-A Song of Ice & Fire
This man starts a war that kills so many people just to get revenge on the man who married the woman he wanted. Pathetic little man! Master manipulator, spymaster, brothel owner and schemer, this guy is evil but very interesting to read about.
I think I will have to slate Iron Druid as a one-a-month read next year or I may never get to it. And I really need some Oberon in my life! I also adore Tyrion and I so miss him now that the series is over. So many people seem to love Muderbot!
ReplyDeleteEveryone needs Oberon in their life-you'll love him! I'm so relieved that Tyrion survived the series and is running things in King's Landing where he belongs! Murderbot is awesome-foul mouthed, social anxiety and loving his drama series!
DeleteI have to agree with Pennywise. I've always loved his character. I'll have to check out the Morganville Vampire series.

DeleteI love that you've picked out three of my favourite GoT characters for this list! Admittedly I've only seen six seasons of the TV show and not actually read any of the books, but Varys is a wonderful enigma
ReplyDeleteThese characters are just so interesting and I love their plotting and scheming and trying to outwit each other and everyone else! Varys is one of my favourite ever characters!
