Chuckles Film Reviews-Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom

This will be, I hope, a recurring feature that will be on the blog each time I watch a film. I used to love films so much and could watch a pile of them in my spare time. However with my focus on reading, I find little time to enjoy films that are new to me but now I need to start clearing the unwatched pile and get some space back! Here are the latest films I watched.

1) Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rafe Spall, Toby Jones, Ted Levine, James Cromwell, BD Wong, Jeff Goldblum, Justice Smith and Daniella Pineda.

Isla Nublar is under threat from an erupting volcano and Claire leads a group who are determined to rescue as many dinosaurs as possible. When Hammond's former partner Benjamin Lockwood offers them an island sanctuary, Claire and Owen go to collect the dinosaurs. But another group are plotting to use the rescued animals to make money.

I have been a dinosaur fan since I was a kid. I used to race around the school playground pretending to be a pteranadon of some kind and told my teacher I wanted to be one (or maybe a T Rex) when I grew up. I was thrilled to hear about the film Jurassic Park and I saw it and the sequel The Lost World many times at the cinema. Jurassic Park 3 wasn't quite as good but I still loved the dinosaurs in it. but the first time I saw Jurassic World was a game-changer! I so wanted to visit this theme park-before the dinosaurs got loose of course! It just looked really amazing. As that film ends with the park being evacuated and closed down, I wondered what they were going to do with this one.

Isla Nublar's thought to be extinct volcano is erupting and Claire fears for the lives of the dinosaurs left behind, starting a protest group to lobby for them to be saved. She is approached with Benjamin Lockwood, the man who was John Hammond's partner in discovering that dinosaur blood could be found within amber. The men had a fall out over the use of the discovery but now Lockwood sees a chance for redemption by offering his island as a new home and preserve for the dinosaurs. Claire persuades Owen to come and save Blue but when they arrive, they realise that the real mission is to remove the dinosaurs from the island to then be sold to the highest bidder. Getting off the island before the volcano kills them could be the least of their worries.

I very much enjoyed this film. We start with the familiar island and have run ins with favourites like the T Rex, the Mosasaur and Blue. It was also fun to see other predators like the Baryonyx and Allosaurus being introduced. There is also the new genetic creation of Dr Wu, a smaller, intelligent and trainable version of the Indominus Rex, called the Indoraptor. This thing is pretty darn scary to say the least! Having some of these dinosaurs outside of their island and imprisoned in the cells below a mansion house gives this film a whole different feel. Having monsters running about the home you live in is pretty scary to think about! There is also an interesting twist as to why Hammond and Lockwood fell out, a plotline which I found interesting.

There was good humour in this film. I enjoyed the character of computer expert Franklin whose is terrified by everything he sees and hears, and is convinced that a T Rex is going to get him. I also loved the scene where Owen assists a dinosaur to escape and it goes around causing complete chaos. It is also quite emotional in places, especially when you realise how many dinosaurs are going to die in the eruption. I enjoyed the introduction of Ted Levine as the bad uy game hunter as I feel he is a very underrated actor, and Toby Jones was perfect as the slimy auctioneer. I also love James Cromwell and his storyline was pretty emotional too. It was nice to see a fitting cameo from Jeff Goldblum back as Ian Malcolm. I hope he is back again for the next one.

I know this film divided opinions but I really enjoyed it. The whole auction in the mansion story was fun for me and there were plenty deaths to enjoy and lots of new dinosaurs to watch. I'm already looking forward to the next one and hoping it won't be the last.

  2. I was a huge dinosaur buff when I was a kid. That's pretty much all I read about. I saw bits and pieces of this one so I can't really judge it but Chris Pratt annoys me but I mostly liked the 1st one.

  5. I thought this was pretty good. I felt so bad for the dino that got left behind on the dock when the volcano was erupting! I was pissed no one helped it lol. And I agree the auction scenes and dinos running amuck in the house was pretty awesome. :)

    1. That poor dinosaur broke my heart! It's the brachiosaur that Alan and Ellie see when they first arrive at Jurassic Park which makes it worse!
