The Best Zombie Books #4

ZOMBIES! You can never have too many in your life unless they are chasing you for your brains of course...Anyway, here is my updated list of great zombie books I've read and series that I've started.

1) Bonnie Dee-After The End
Zombies are on the loose and the world is falling apart. A group of strangers on a Manhattan subway are brought together in the name of survival. The group follows the lead of Ari Brenner, a young man who doesn’t recognize his own leadership qualities and believes they follow him simply because he wears an army uniform. Lila Teske, a college student studying philosophy, finds her non-violent beliefs tested in the crucible of a zombie attack. With the city’s infrastructure down and communication with the outside world curtailed the survivors head toward the nearest marina. When they meet a lab tech who may have a solution to the virus, they know his safety is paramount and it’s more important than ever that they get off the island. But zombies aren’t the only danger that impedes them on their perilous journey.

2) Lee Dunter-Crowded Yet Desolate
Ryan returns home from a short trip, his wife Deborah returning from her night out at a local festival with friends. When he wakes up the next day, his wife is a zombie but with no signs of being bitten, and the streets still filled with party-goers who are about to become a buffet for the growing groups of zombies. Teaming up with brothers Joe and Roe, they then join another small group of survivors inside a gun store and plan how to get out of the city to a safer place. Having to travel on foot to a smaller town may not be the safest option with zombies and armed thugs to deal with but it is their only choice.

3) Rhiannon Frater-The Last Bastion of the Living
Maria is a tough soldier, one of the many who protect the Bastion, the final walled city still to stand after the zombie apocalypse. The raging Inferi have broken through the outer gate and up to the inner walls but the only way the people can survive is to close the outer gate and kill every zombie in the valley. Maria is asked to take part in this new offensive and happily volunteers, as life in the Bastion is dark and grim with blackouts, crime and few pleasures, other than being with Dwayne. She has no idea that the most important details of the mission have been kept from her, things she would never have agreed to and now it is too late to change her mind. Her only hope of salvation now is to complete the deadly mission.

4) Micah Gurley-The Road To Macon (Macon Saga #1)
After realizing his dream of teaching history in college, Kyle Small gets laid off and takes a job as a heavily armed security guard. He's just returning from his Thanksgiving holiday in which his brother Abe has visited him, when an epidemic strikes the plant that he works at. Kyle must get back to his brother and then find refuge in a old Civil War fort for protection. Along the way they collect others and face the rising problems as they take the road to Macon.

5) Shaun Harbinger-Rain (Undead Rain #1)
Four friends are on a hike in the Welsh mountains when the zombie apocalypse occurs. All they can think of is to get away from the Army forces who are detaining all civilians in camps until they see who turns, and of course the deadly zombies. The plan is to get to the coast to find a boat and safely plan what they are going to do next.

6) Michael Stephen Fuchs & Glynn James-Fortress Britain (Arisen #1)
Britain is the only country who seems to have the zombie apocalypse under some kind of control, due to a terrorist attack shutting their airspace to aircraft just as the virus went global. The Channel Tunnel has been blocked off and the military have all but a few random zombies taken care of who are wandering the countryside. The US and UK military launch raids to gather vital supplies from around Europe in special forces missions. But things are about to go very wrong when something escapes the Tunnel...

7) Craig Jones-Outbreak (Zombie Apocalypse #1)
It begins with a flight into Heathrow Airport. It ends up at Matt Hawkins' front gate, in a crowd of savage, lumbering bodies. An epidemic is sweeping Great Britain, transforming countless victims into mindless predators and forcing Matt and his little brother, Danny, out of the safety of their late parents' privileged legacy and into a rapidly changing world. Every day is vital. Every action counts. As the brothers make alliances and learn to defend themselves and their home against an unthinkable enemy, choices are made, some with devastating consequences. In the midst of this nightmarish fight to survive, Matt begins to learn what is truly important to him, and exactly what it means to be human.

8) Stephen Knight-The Gathering Dead (Gathering Dead #1)
The zombie apocalypse has hit New York and the military are evacuating the important people while the ordinary people are left to the mercy of the zombies. McDaniels has two teams in two helicopters to evacuate a scientist and his daughter who may have the basis for a cure. When one helicopter is overrun and the other crash lands, the survivors barricade themselves into a building with a few civilians to wait for help to arrive. But the zombies outside include the other half of the team and they are plotting a way to get inside...

9) Courtney Konstantin-Prepared
Alex grew up in a prepper household with a paranoid father, and the lessons he taught her will prove to be vital when the zombie apocalypse arrives on her doorstep. Her husband Blake returns home from a business trip, bitten and infected, unaware that he will soon turn and try to attack Alex, their kids and their housekeeper. Alex knows her family compound is the only safe place to go but first she has to gather supplies and then try to find a way out of the city which is being guarded by military checkpoints.

10) Robert McCrohan-Pandora
Comet Pandora hits Mars and explodes into dust in Earth's atmosphere, causing sickness, first in Asia and then across the world as it infects the whole atmosphere. 30% of the human population are ill with flu like symptoms but most recover. Then Pandora mutates and everyone who recovered gets sick and begin to die. But they are not going to stay dead and suddenly Pandora has caused the start of a zombie apocalypse.

    1. I need to get reading more zombies for a new list to share next year but I still don't seem to want to read any horror. It's frustrating!
