Welcome to part two of my attempt to get my bedroom in a condition that normal people can actually live in! This was how I left things on Monday night, the end of preparation work. The next two days are going to be the main moving days.
TUESDAY
Today I moved the chair into the space beside the bed and it only just fit in. That's when I got an unpleasant shock-behind the chair and Bookcase 4, up against the fire and the hidden part of Bookcase 5, was a shedload of bags and boxes full of assorted stuff. There was so much of it! I was worried about possible spiders so the bags and boxes have been wrapped and sealed in binbags and dumped in the hall until we have the time and space to go through it all. My dad will do the unwrapping and I'll be standing well back from it with bug spray in my hand! But that is a job for another day so the eight binbags will just have to wait. We then got the ladders back into my room and emptied more stuff from the top of Bookcase 5, into two more binbags and removed them from the area. This all took about an hour and was more work than I planned for.
Now it was time to empty Bookcase 5. That was a bit of an ordeal. We had to stack all six shelves worth of books and encyclopedias into towering piles in a small gap beside and on top of the chair. That was heavy work as there are two piles of books on each of the six shelves. Finally we were able to get Bookcase 5 slowly across the floor, out of my room, through the hall and into a specially created space in my dad's bedroom. We then had to move the whole pile of books we'd taken from it, and put them back into it as temporary storage as we had no room to leave them anywhere else. That felt very depressing as we'll have to take most of it back into my room tomorrow after we swap over the furniture. This is the problem with a small house! There is no room to swing a cat, as they say!
We were both too knackered to do anything else after shifting all the books. My dad then decided that he wants to get rid of his TV unit which is a bit crap and sit the TV on top of his chest of drawers instead-and can make use of Bookcase 5 if we swap it with the drawers. As it has six shelves, my dad offered me three to stack the excess that I can't fit in my room and I nearly cried with relief as I was worrying about where all the really big books would go! The up side is that this will give us three deep shelves each to put stuff in. The down side is that it means moving MORE furniture at some point in the next few weeks! But we'll worry about that later I think. We finished today by moving the chair in front of Bookcase 6 and 7, which lets me get into my bed tonight and have space to work in tomorrow.
This is how everything looked after the hours of work today.
You can see Bookcase 5 has moved out of the room, the chair is sitting out of everyone's way and I have space to work in that far corner. Today was more tiring than I thought and I'm trying not to think of all those binbags I'll need to sort through. I also got rid of six binbags of old VHS tapes which were lurking at the back of the shelves. I also have two more binbags of all the cardboard covers from the tapes which need to be ripped up and put into the recycling bin. All that needs to wait though as I need to get the furniture moved on Wednesday, which will be worse than what was done today!
Next task is to empty Bookcase 4 and move it into the gap, empty Bookcase 2 and move it in front of the fire where Bookcase 4 was. Then I empty Bookcase 1, bring all the books in from my dad's room and the bathroom, sort all the books out and get them onto the Bookshelves 1, 2 and 4. It's going to take all day and it's going to be horrible!!!
Wish me luck, I'm going in...

I am playing the Mission: Impossible music in my head while reading this :-D
