Autumn Blues #7

I haven't been online for a couple of days with a mixture of more back issues and a bit of depression, but neither is anything serious to worry about, just the usual kind of ailments. I did a small bit of moving stuff in my room and straight away my back went again. It sounds strange to say but you don't realise how many books you have on a three shelf bookcase until you have to ferry all of it from your room out to the bathroom to get it out of your way! I have too much stuff in my room so whenever I have a clear out or rearrange things, I have to move a chair and set of plastic drawers up onto my bed out the way and empty and move a couple of small bookcases out into the hall to give me space to move stuff. It's a nightmare! So I guess I'm still about halfway through the prep stage, never mind the actual main events! Ugh. I just want it done!

I had been happy to hear that the local charity shops were starting to take stuff in again so my dad and I did a clearout at my uncle's house of all his clothes, and a pile of books from both houses, some dvds and cds etc and stacked them into the car. Now we hear that on Friday, our part of Scotland is going into level four restrictions so the charity shops are closing again. I'm really mad because all the charity shops are socially distancing people, limiting numbers inside, masks and hand sanitiser are in use and are being safe. Now we're stuck with even more stuff in our house than before and we're not greatly happy about the chaos up here. How can it be safe for kids to go to school but certain shops following the rules can't open? How can supermarkets sell alcohol as an essential item but not children's clothes? Why are universities open with students continuing to party yet care homes can't have relatives visiting safely? There's no sense to the regulations here.

Blogger is still causing chaos some days so it looks like I won't be doing my usual Christmas posts as the ones I planned have lots of graphics. Graphics and book tags are so hard to get done when it is in one of it's twisted moods. Usually I do a big pile of posts through December about the best books of each genre but with Blogger and my reading being all over the place, I doubt I'll be doing much of that! I am working on a few random blog posts but with Blogger being weird some days, it's taking so much longer than it should to get simple stuff done.

Hey everyone! Dave again.
We had panic stations yesterday on Asda delivery day. Mum freaked out when the van came thirty minutes early and we were all running about like lunatics, or in my case, bouncing about with a panicked grimace and getting in everyone's way! Mum managed to fall out of her slippers and land face first on the chair! (luckily, it's a soft chair) but I don't think she appreciated me yelling 'FACEPLANT!' and bouncing across her back! Come on, a pumpkin has to have a bit of fun sometimes! We were all knackered by the time we got it in and put it all away, but it beats hoofing out to the supermarket for it...

We've been entertaining ourselves today watching the darts and some of those Border Security documentary episodes from around the world. I love watching idiot passengers doing wrong get what is coming to them-getting arrested for drugs, getting sent home for trying to illegally work, smuggling in biohazard and banned food...mum loves it! I was a bit disappointed with it overall...what's the point of having sniffer dogs if they don't get to chew the drug smuggling passengers? Why not just give a beating to passengers who are breaking the rules instead of silly little fines and deportation? Where is the fun in this kind of show without a bit of mindless violence for our entertainment! Gah!

Tonight, I'm having a bit of reading time with mum, maybe a bit of TV watching but I can guarantee that there will be Texas BBQ Pringles, some chocolate and a bit of cake! I hope you all continue to stay safe from the virus and find the strength to face all the tough challenges that can be lurking around the corner.

Dave

  1. I know how you feel. My library project is in the home stretch and all I want to do is get it done! I will pick up the last bookshelf this weekend and then the end is near. I finished all the painting this last Sunday. I hope you are taking it easy. The closures you mentioned kind of don't make much sense. Numbers here are growing so we'll see where that's heading.

Now Dave, yelling FACEPLANT at Mom isn't very helpful is it?

    1. These DIY projects get pretty overwhelming once we are buried in them! The idea is good, the finished product is going to look good but the actual process of getting there is a bit of a nightmare! Yes Dave is a bit of a rascal! I did look funny going face first into the chair!

Dave; Och it was hilarious Auntie Barb!

  2. That's so frustrating about the charity shops closing up again. You're right, it doesn't make sense. And I'm sorry Blogger is still freaking out on you. Like you needed something else to go wrong. Hope your back recovers from all the bookmoving! And enjoy your Pringles and chocolate.

    1. It's driving me a bit crazy for sure! I have lots of stuff being cleared out and some of it could be used by other people...but these regulations mean the shop can't even collect it from my driveway!

  3. Oh no! Back pain is the worse and I hope that you didn't hurt yourself in your fall. Sometimes, the rules don't seem to make sense. It will be so nice when the world returns to normal...whatever that is. Take care of yourself, Chuckles!

    1. It was a soft fall thankfully...stupid slippers! The Covid rules are different in every area and change so often that it gets confusing but Scotland has different rules set down than the UK government. Ugh. I hope the world returns to a sort of normality next year. You take care too!

  4. Ugh, I feel you. There is absolutely no rhyme or reason to the covid response here in the US. Our #'s are out of control and yet everything is wide open and people aren't required to wear masks so I'm afraid to leave my house. It is insanity. Take care of yourself!

    1. I put CNN on sometimes to see what is happening with Covid around the world and it's all so scary. I'm afraid to leave my house too...I'm staying safely in front of the fire all winter!

  5. I live on the line of two states that both went back to restrictions and it's so weird. One allows 75% capacity in stores - the other 25%. One is take out only for food while the other is take out and eat outside.

I just wish people would follow even the most basic of precautions - MASKS so we could get past this already.

    1. It must be even worse living on the state line like that. It must be really confusing. I've seen reports here of the boundary line actually cutting through the middle of houses here so the left of your house is in a low risk area and your right side is in the higher restriction area. Now that is mad!

    1. Aches and pains as well as stress seem to be afflicting a lot of people during the pandemic. Remember the days when we took things for granted that we can't do now!

Me and Dave are all for the dogs getting some fun in those circumstances!

  7. the Governor of our state just declared a Mask Mandate for the whole state, so it wouldn't surprise me if a lockdown is going to happen sometime this winter :-(

Hope your back gets better soon.

    1. I've pretty much been in lockdown since the end of February but I am healthy and live in a warm house so I'm not going to complain too much about staying home! I hope you and Mrs B are doing ok.

  8. We are still in tier three, I’d doubt we’d go in to tier four but more and more cases are popping up in the schools so that is a bit of a nightmare.

Hoping you are ok, enjoy border security! It always makes me laugh what people try and smuggle.

    1. I think we're in four now. To be honest, I've stopped listening to Mrs Fish/Jimmy Krankie/Wee Hairy whatever her name is. Give me a lottery win so I can move to Blackpool and never hear her Indy whine ever again!!!
