Autumn Blues #6

Hi, Dave here again!
What is it with housework? Mum works hard to keep on top of it all but dust and dirt seem to have waged war against her at the moment! She's had to take a few days off due to a bad back-just a touch of sciatica again and she'll be ok in a few days. It means putting off moving stuff in our bedroom probably until next week, which is frustrating as we both want to get it done and relax for the rest of the winter! Still, you can't move furniture after a sciatica flareup. Rest is required...

We are pleased to report that we finally have all of our winter essentials in. Mum finally got hold of a few packs of prawn cocktail Pringles so those twelve tubes will be arriving soon and that will finish off the festive and winter stock of treats. Grandpa doesn't have a stash as he has no willpower and he chomps down the jelly babies and nuts like no tomorrow! Mum did treat herself to a few books to cheer herself up, as you do, but a couple were ones she had on ereaders and were going cheap on paperback on Amazon. We're getting a bit more non fiction dealt with which is better than a slap in the face with a wet kipper, y'know? All I want to do is go on a Harry Potter readathon but Mum is determined she must read a few new books!

Mum also bought a watergun to use to deter the cats in the street who want to eat our poor squirrels (don't worry, she never aims to hit the cats, just to the side or behind it or something as we never want to injure the buggers). We have one squirrel smart enough to peer in the window at us when it sees a cat so we can spring into action! Cats hate the whoosh sound of the gun being fired more than the water so it keeps them away for a while. Cats, ugh!

We were overjoyed to hear that a shortened series of American Ninja Warrior was going ahead this year after being cancelled from May due to the virus. We finished watching it this week and we loved it as one of our favourites won! It was better news than another of our favourites from the show getting arrested for sexual activity with a minor. It was a bit of a shock to hear the news and he'll never be seen on the show again. If found guilty, I doubt he'll ever see the light of day again, never mind compete on the show. For anyone who hasn't heard about it and wants to check out the initial story, here are the links:

Moving on to other things now...well, I would if anything exciting had happened. But before I go can we remember those who have caught and are recovering from the virus or have family members fighting this disease. I also want to mention Mary, whose husband is very ill. You can learn more about the family fundraising for funeral expenses here:

My thoughts are with Mary and our other friends who are facing difficult times right now, and everyone affected by Covid and other illnesses right now. Remember them in your thoughts and prayers please.

Thanks, love you all
Dave and family

    1. Dave: Thanks Barb, Mary is lovely and we hate seeing our friends going through bad things. I think Cass and Apollo would love our garden with five squirrels and lots of birds, and a few cats to chase away!

  3. Whew, you have been busy! Cleaning never seems to end does it? As soon as you finish, it is time to start all over again. It sounds like the squirrels appreciate your efforts. My heart does go out to Mary and her family.

    1. Yep, the cleaning is never ending. Dust seems to gather in the bathroom as soon as I'm done cleaning it! It drives me mad!!! Watching the squirrels calms me if I feel stressed and their antics make me smile! Chasing big birds and cats away it like a full time job though!

My heart goes out to Mary too. Cancer is pure evil.
