Virus Days #9

It's been a bit of a funny week. My uncle is still in hospital but he is in a normal heart ward now. He is still improving but slowly and it'll be at least next week before he gets out, maybe longer. We're happy that he is doing better and they are trying to find the right medication for him which is kind of trial and error. It might be a couple of weeks until he gets home but he is much better and in the right place. My dad had to phone the doctor about a chest infection but it's a minor issue and within an hour he got steroids and antibiotics from the doctor. Nothing to worry about, just a normal side effect of his acid reflux which he sometimes gets. He'll be fine in a few days. He says hi to everyone!

Life has been really busy off the blog! I've finished the third Diagon Alley puzzle and will be posting that sometime this week. I'm already starting the fourth and it is so relaxing to do instead of watching the news, which just gets my blood boiling! I've been doing a relaxing bit of bird watching from my front window. We have a bird feeder and birdbath of sorts and it's fun to watch the sparrow colony, robin, dunnock and blue tits go about their business, along with Rodney the squirrel. We also have a couple of bats that fly by my window every night-Victor Von Batsy and Drusilla! Plus we feed a couple of foxes who occasionally snooze in our back garden at night. I do love that kind of nature!

My dad has got in touch with the guy who put up our last fence and he's happy to take on the work but with Scotland still in full lockdown, the places he buys his materials from are closed so he can't start yet. I'm hoping that he might get some stuff from English manufacturers or something so we can at least get that bugger sorted. I'm trying not to think about having to paint it all over again! Our newest neighbour has hinted that he'd be happy to varnish some fencing for us so maybe we could pay him a fair price to do it this summer.

I did buy a few more Harry Potter 3D puzzles-The Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade, (above), The Burrow, The Great Hall at Hogwarts and the Astronomy Tower. They look AWESOME and harder than the Diagon Alley ones, so it should be a good challenge! I still can't seem to read anything except Harry Potter at the moment and I'm slowly going through my Order of the Phoenix re-read. I'm enjoying it a lot more this time round though Harry is a bit annoying in this book at times! I want to treat myself to a couple of books but it seems that the new Murderbot and Hunger Games books are hardback only right now so I'll be waiting a while for both. I also wish Amazon would hurry up and send the new Grady Hendrix book!

I have finally decided that the disaster zone known as my bedroom needs a total overhaul and I made a start to it last night. I'm tackling one shelf at a time on my big IKEA bookshelves. The shelves are deep enough to have two rows of things on each one. Out of sight at the back of these shelves were old VHS tapes with music, sport, films and TV, and this was hidden behind a row of books on each of the shelves. So I threw out two shelves worth of that crap today! Now I can push the books to the back of the shelves and move my Game of Thrones figures to sit in front of them. It'll look much neater and it lets me move my new Diagon Alley puzzles onto the shelves just above my bed where I can look at them every night! Next I'll see what is behind the books on the other three shelves in that unit, then I have two more six shelf bookcases to tackle, plus all the stuff on top of the bookcases, under the bed and on the many shelves of the TV unit! Ugh it could take all summer but it's that or get rid of books and that ain't happening until I've read them!

  1. I do think you need a whole shelf to showcase your wonderful builds. That sounds like a great idea. Glad Dad is doing well. I can't wait to see what you think of the Grady Hendrix tale. I love the squirrel picture. Cass says he definitely wants to visit you guys now :)

    1. I'm getting really frustrated about the wait for the Grady Hendrix book-it's been pushed back to the end of May! I was just in the mood to read it! I can imagine how much fun Cass would have in our garden with cats, birds, squirrels and toads!

    1. They're pretty friendly and I've hand fed a few adult males. They sit across the street and watch us put out leftovers for them, then they come over to eat. They always look at the window as if to say thanks before they leave! One young fox used to sit on our path every night to see if anything tasty was coming! We try not to do it every night as we don't want them too dependent on us.

  3. I'm glad your uncle and your father are both feeling better and so glad the issue with your dad wasn't too big of a deal. Reorganizing shelves is always fun and always great to get things nicely rearragned.

    1. My uncle is finding it hard to be in that environment and is frustrated at how slow his recovery is but they are gradually getting him to wash and dress each day to get him back to some normality. It could be a couple of weeks yet.

  4. It sounds like you have been quite busy! I hope that you are able to get a fence in without any problems. The puzzles look like a lot of fun and I bet your shelves look amazing with them. I am glad your dad is doing well. Hi, Chuckles Dad!

    1. The fence guy has been up to give us a quote for the broken fence. We're also getting him to take away the old fence in the front garden as it won't last another couple of years. He's also happy to varnish it as he puts it up and will also landscape the garden after de-weeding it for us. It'll be a relief to finally get it done over the next year.

The puzzles have been great for getting my stress levels down!
