Firstly, thank you everyone who has expressed their kind thoughts and prayers to my family-it is very much appreciated. As of today, Thursday, the latest news from the hospital this morning is better news. The Occupational Therapy people phoned to talk to my dad about getting my uncle's house ready for him coming home, maybe as early as the end of next week. That took us a bit by surprise as you can imagine, just two days after a positive Covid 19 test. Now we're wondering if a new test has maybe been negative? Oh we're really confused and my dad will be asking about it when he talks to the ward nurse later tonight! But my uncle is feeling chirpy today and his breathing is good, so that is a relief. I think my dad is reeling a bit from the latest developments!
Anyway they want us to set up a phone landline in his house again, which they'll attach an alarm to so he can call for medical help if he needs it. We are REALLY happy about that development as it was impossible to get him on that bloody mobile phone. They intend to fit in a few aids in the house to help him shower etc which is also good. My uncle is less keen on having strangers in the home as part of a care package but we hope he'll come round to it. My dad and I will chip in of course, deal with all his food buying needs, send over meals he can re-heat, phone him daily and visit the house sometimes but we're self isolating and my dad isn't fit to do much cleaning or personal care stuff. My uncle will need that extra offered help so we'll work on him. He also has good neighbours who can also keep an eye on him for us when we aren't there. We feel a lot better about all this extra help for my uncle. Our NHS and Social Care is an amazing resource and we are so grateful to have this, and the wonderful people who work in it.
It's bit a bit of a weird day. We got our latest supermarket delivery this morning which was a bit chaotic but I'm looking forward to a few days of microwave meals to give me a rest from cooking. I've had a bit of insomnia and I seem to be imagining spiders everywhere I look which is a bit disturbing and ruins any chance of sleep! I'm a bit weird, I know...!
I hope all of you continue to avoid the virus and that any loved one who has it recovers really soon. Stay safe everyone.

That is good news, especially that you'll be getting extra help so it's not all on you and your dad.
ReplyDeleteI have been having the weirdest dreams and sleep patterns lately.

It is good news and my uncle won't get a choice in the matter when it comes to his care! The more help we get for him the better off he'll be. We'll deal with food and checking on what he needs and how he is, the local pharmacy are already delivering but if he doesn't the door, they call us and my dad collects it from the shop and can deliver it to my uncle later. I'll keep him supplied with books and films!
DeleteThe weird dreams and sleep patterns seem to be pretty common-it must be an anxiety related thing. I slept well last night but I'm so tired this morning!
So happy to see such a positive update. Great news! We will keep the prayers going though.
ReplyDeleteThanks Barb! The hospital must be confident that the heart and breathing issues are better-they are so vague on the phone...'a good night', 'a wee bit breathless' but not much else! My dad is all anxious about getting the phone set up and all the care stuff in...he's really flapping this morning!
DeleteI'm glad to hear your uncle is doing better! It does seem a bit peculiar that he was hospitalized and tested positive but can come home so soon, but it's also not out of the realm of possibility as the majority of people do only get mild to moderate symptoms. I am still crossing my fingers for you and your family though, hopefully you will continue to get nothing but good news!

It's really weird isn't it? If we could visit as normal we could arrange to see the doctor but that isn't an option right now. I guess they must be happy with progress and want to get him back to his home environment. Maybe the test was faulty or something. It's confusing but we'll take the good news! Thanks Mogsy!
DeleteI'm glad your uncle is doing better. I hope he continues to get better and doesn't get real sick. Some people only get mild symptoms so that's good.
ReplyDeleteThey still seem to want him home by the weekend which hardly gives us time to get stuff done! Still, getting home will brighten his mood!
DeleteGreat news about your uncle!
ReplyDeleteSucks about the insomnia and the dreams though. Of all the dream/hallucinations to have spiders! Ugh. That'd be enough to make me never sleep again which would probably make it worse! lol. Hope you're getting some better sleep soon. Take care of yourself.
Well it seems they were optimistic to the point of stupidity, looking back at this. We've had issues with this hospital before in giving us the wrong information. Hospitals need to be a lot more careful before getting hopes up like this...
DeleteWow that does seem quick but maybe the case is mild? Definitely a good sign that his breathing is sounding good. Glad you have resources for in home care. We've had to deal with getting care in for older relatives and it can definitely be a challenge - especially if the person who needs the care isn't the most agreeable!
ReplyDeleteIt seemed weird when we got told about the release but it seems this dept didn't speak to the ward doctor before filling our head with this rubbish! It's not good to be doing this to relatives and the patient. Still, no point dwelling on it now I guess!
DeleteI am so happy to hear that your uncle is doing well enough that they are planning for him to come home. That is great news! Even better that it sounds like he will be getting some help.
ReplyDeleteThis department was WAY premature, looking back at it now. It was a strange decision but now we hear that this was not agreed with the ward doctors! The mind boggles at what the heck is going on in the hospitals!
Deleteglad there is good news for your uncle. maybe it's a good sign (?) they are sending him home...with help. i'm not so sure he would do so well here in the us. this whole covid thing should prove to everyone here in the us that we need health insurance for everyone!!! take care and stay safe. :-)

Turned out to be false information sadly. Having free treatment here can be everything though. If my uncle had been in the states, we couldn't have found the money for his bills.
