Chuckles Weekend Roundup

Welcome to my feature Chuckles Weekend Roundup where I will be looking at what books I've received, anything interesting I've done or bought or watched and other random stuff. I'll be taking a look back at what happened in my blogging world too, sort of like The Sunday Post that some of you do!

Please note that I'll be visiting your STS/SP as normal, but I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow DISQUS to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I am the only one who does that on my social media! I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account. Sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress-they try to block me because I deleted my account with them but I will persevere as it only happens the odd time!
****************
I really feel like the beagle on this post at the moment! I'm feeling pretty tired all the time and I could just cuddle that dog and have a snooze! I'm still finding it tough to get back into my reading after taking the break to sort out the TBR! Reading these short novellas is about as much as I can concentrate on at the moment. Still, it's better than nothing and it gets a few things off my list! I'm using these short stories to try a few new authors and see if I want to read more by them in the future. I can also report that I'm on the final stage of my Winterfell project (I'm battling with putting trees together at the moment!) and I was excited to receive my new model kit for The Red Keep. It's all very exciting!

Today is also Brexit Day, where we officially finish as a nation of the European Union so it's very historic and exciting. I have alcohol and snacks ready to sustain me all night as I watch the official coverage. I'm keen to see who is at the official Downing Street reception and what the Nigel Farage party is like. Now we can look ahead to getting all these trade deals done and moving forward. I'm aware that a few of my friends are Remain supporters and have significant and relevant concerns about it, which I do get, but please, no anti-Brexit comments today as I won't be publishing them! Let me just have my happy moment!

I'm also keeping a cautious eye on the news as this coronavirus has now been confirmed with 2 cases in the UK. My dad is out buying in more bottled water just in case hibernation is required for a few weeks, as a precaution. I only tend to drink the flavoured water rather than the tap water we get so I need a small supply! I did decide to educate myself on these kinds of viruses by downloading a few books on the subject. I've always been interested in viruses but never had the time to read about them so this seems like a good excuse.

Films & TV
I've been watching various documentaries about the Royal Family this week. Some were good especially a 5 part of The Royal Family At Work, filming behind the scenes with The Queen on her duties along with her family and staff. It was fascinating.

This week was all about catching up with novellas for new authors I was trying and finishing a political memoir too. Next up I'll be looking at more short stories.

  1. I found out yesterday that there's a possible person here in Vegas with the coronavirus and is in quarantine. That's kinda scary. The infected has risen steadily too.

    1. It is pretty worrying. People like me who read these pandemic apocalypses can see events unfolding like in the books so it can make you worry just a bit! We still have two confirmed cases but nearly 500 Chinese visitors have gone missing and authorities can't find them. I hope it means these people are self-isolating and not possibly spreading infection. I think it will be a few weeks before we see the true infection rate in our countries.

  2. I need a nap too. Cass and Apollo said if you lived closer, you could nap and cuddle with them. But be prepared to get bit by Apollo :) I hope you enjoy your coverage and seems like you have it all planned. Also, please take precautions. I don't think people can be too careful right now. I find the whole thing pretty scary and Mr. Barb sees it as another sign that the zombie apocalypse could actually happen. Enjoy your weekend!

    1. That's very kind of your boys! I wish I could take them up on it! The coverage was so poor on Brexit night. It was full of Remainers complaining about the results AGAIN and holding wakes and we barely saw any celebrations!

I've read a few pandemic and zombie books that are exactly the same as this scenario we face so I'm finding it hard not to freak out a little bit! I am ready to avoid public places if it becomes necessary, extra supplies, masks, gloves, hand wash etc so I guess I'm as ready as I can be! As for the zombies, I'm thinking anything is possible...

    1. I think I need to read that sooner rather than later...

  4. I spent the day yesterday scanning all my TBR books into my Goodreads app. Now that that's done I can get back to reading. I did pretty good this month. 8 books! Much better than the 0-2 I've been ending the month with lol

I hope you can get back on track. Novellas help me too.

    1. I certainly feel better knowing that nearly all of the books I own are finally catalogued! I do keep finding paperbacks that I've forgot to add so I'll probably drip feed them on my weekend roundup posts as I find them! I just can't seem to get my brain focused on reading at the moment! I MUST get some books read this week! I have a few cartoon books which I can read tonight for the Puppy Love Challenge then I need to get on with a longer book to get me back on track!

  5. I for one am all Pro-Brexit. *fist bump of solidarity*

The corona virus is something else, isn't it? I've heard official numbers by the chinese communist government saying around 5-7K are sick, but a friend of mine whose wife is a nurse says something like that virus and how it spreads and the real numbers are probably closer to 50+K sick and the chinese are lying out of their ears. Without some outside confirmation (which the communist government is never going to allow) though, I doubt we'll ever get the real numbers.

I'm concerned about spreading here in the US. We have a confirmed case or 3 already on the west coast, so while not an immediate issue, it "could" get bad. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

    1. I never understood why we should be told what to do by unelected officials in another country! This was why I wanted us to regain control of our country and decide on our own laws. Having Donald Trump being pro Brexit also helps!

Yes this virus is really worrying to me because I am an amateur prepper. Thankfully I bought in masks and gloves and handwash in the summer ready for the flu season. These things are selling out all over Brotain now at inflated prices so I'm glad I was ahead of the sheep there! I think in the next two weeks we'll see infection rates rise in our countries as those infected turn symptomatic. That'll give us a real idea what is happening. It would be impossible not to be concerned!

  6. I'd almost forgotten that yesterday was Brexit Day. I've not been paying much attention to the news, I don't buy/read newspapers and no one around here has been talking about it so it was pretty much a non-event for me. I'm really glad that it's done and we can just get on with life again! The constant back and forth and arguing was doing my head in. (Although I'm sure more arguing is to come with the trade negotiations and Sturgeon beating her IndieRef drum. *sigh*)

    1. I'm a bit annoyed that the opposition parties still aren't respecting both the referendum result and that of the General Election and still trying to mess things up! Don't get me started on the harpy of the north! Sturgeon gives us Scots a bad name!!! If we vote for independence, I'm moving to England!

  7. That's some intense reading there. I think we have had a confirmed case in NJ. This will be a case of my antisocial behavior being a good thing.

    1. Being anti-social is good! I'm only in contact with my dad and uncle and talking over the fence to the neighbours! If there is an outbreak near me, I'll hibernate for a few weeks!

  8. I'm keeping an eye on the virus as well as we are heading to Disney World which is basically a giant petri dish of just about everything. I can relate to the beagle too! We've been running around nonstop for awhile and now that I've been home for a few days I just want to stay home. Hope you have a great week!

    1. A lot of these tourists from China seem to take the isolate yourself warnings seriously so hopefully that should help reduce the spread. I'm watching the news very carefully though! I really hope you have a great time at Disney in spite of worries over the virus!

  9. I kind of feel like I am out of steam and need a nap as well. I like your idea of reading some short pieces to knock them off the tbr list. This virus is really scary. If I could stay home, I certainly would do it! I hope you have a great week!
