Chuckles Weekend Roundup

Welcome to my feature Chuckles Weekend Roundup where I will be looking at what books I've received, anything interesting I've done or bought or watched and other random stuff. I'll be taking a look back at what happened in my blogging world too, sort of like The Sunday Post that some of you do!

Please note that I'll be visiting your STS/SP as normal, but I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow DISQUS to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I am the only one who does that on my social media! I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account. Sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress-they try to block me because I deleted my account with them but I will persevere as it only happens the odd time!

I've had a slower week for reading because of a bunch of stupid light sensitive headaches that stopped me reading at night. It took double the length of time I usually need to read two books but thankfully a few DNFs have made up for it today so I feel like I'm back on track! I hope to get on with a brand new read tonight and really get my reading month started. I've stayed away from Amazon this week like a good girl so the books I'm adding on are from where they have lurked unseen on my ereader!

The ongoing saga of the house next door continues. It was sold a couple of months ago but nothing much seemed to be happening with it. All we've seen is someone hired to get the grass, hedges and weeds sorted out and a couple of new carpets. Now we find out that the house is up for rent. We don't know if the original sale fell through or if a new owner is leasing it as a private landlord so we still have no new neighbours! Weird.

This was a better week as I feel a lot more organised this week, despite being a bit tired. I got some good reading done so I'm happy and I'm up to date on most things going into the weekend.

I read a couple of solid mountain climbing books this week and got a few DNFs out of my way, which always helps the numbers. A good start to this month's challenge! Choosing what to read next when you have 95 options is still proving difficult! I MIGHT try to tackle some for the Author Alphabet Challenge as I have four letters to do, plus X. I have no author for X...maybe I could cheat and have Anonymous? They might sign legal documents with an X rather than their name, eh? OK I'm reaching...

  1. I read a short story in that Spencer Quinn universe and want to start the series someday. Oh no! Renters can be the worst. I'm praying it all works out for you. The rentals next to us have been the bane of our existence at times.

    1. We met two people looking at it at they seemed keen-nice and quiet and normal! We're hoping that they decide to rent it. We like quiet!

  2. Headaches certainly aren't good for reading. Hope they get better soon. You did manage to get some good read in it seems.

    1. It seems to be bright light annoying my eyes so last night I used a baseball cap to read and it cut out the worst of the brightness so that worked ok!

    1. I just hope for quiet and normal people! We met one of the possible renters and they seem like a nice normal family so hopefully it will be them!

  4. Sorry to hear you a suffering from headaches. I hope you are finding more relief now. At least you were able to make up for the lost reading time, right?

    1. Reading with a baseball cap to reduce the brightness seems to be working so that's good! I'm doing ok this week overall!

  5. Uh oh, renters. Your chances getting a bum neighbor have just increased. Of course, it really depends on who the landlords actually are. If they're good people who do proper checks and know the property, then you'll probably be all set. Sadly, I haven't met many landlords like that :-D

I say go for using Anonymous as X. No need to add a book to the tbr just for that. Read a book, cross off a tbr number, fill in a challenge, sounds like a win-win-win situation to me.

    1. Yeah I'm a bit concerned...you hear dodgy things about private landlords and their renters. Mind you if they are idiots, they might be easier to get rid of. We had years of hell with a neighbour who had bought her house. It took five years before we got rid of them!

If it was my challenge I'd defo go for Anonymous or Various Authors as my X choice! Darn it, one letter short is annoying but I don't want to force myself to buy and read something I don't have just to finish, y'know?

  6. At least they are keeping up with the grass next door. A couple of years ago, the house next door and behind us were both vacant and nobody was cutting the grass. My husband eventually tackled it after seen a snake slithering out. We could have called the city but I just didn't want to do it. I hope you have a headache free week.

    1. We saw more people looking at the house yesterday and they looked like students. The last thing we need is party central next door! Ugh snakes! At least we don't have many of those here!

  7. Interesting that you've picked up Ian McDonald! I need to read that series, I wonder if it'll be your thing!
