Books from the Backlog is a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your bookshelf. You might be surprised by some of the unread books hiding in your stacks. Go to Carole's blog and add your blog post link in to join in the fun! Hosted by Carole at https://carolesrandomlife.blogspot.co.uk/
This seems like a fun feature and I have been planning to take part since Carole launched this so at last, here we go! I have a TON of unread books to choose from in various genres and I'm looking forward to sharing some of them with everybody.
There is a right way and a wrong way to summon her.
Jess had done the research. Success requires precision: a dark room, a mirror, a candle, salt, and four teenage girls. Each of them--Jess, Shauna, Kitty, and Anna--must link hands, follow the rules . . . and never let go. A thrilling fear spins around the room the first time Jess calls her name: "Bloody Mary. Bloody Mary. BLOODY MARY." A ripple of terror follows when a shadowy silhouette emerges through the fog, a specter trapped behind the mirror.
Once is not enough, though--at least not for Jess. Mary is called again. And again. But when their summoning circle is broken, Bloody Mary slips through the glass with a taste for revenge on her lips. As the girls struggle to escape Mary's wrath, loyalties are questioned, friendships are torn apart, and lives are forever altered. A haunting trail of clues leads Shauna on a desperate search to uncover the legacy of Mary Worth. What she finds will change everything, but will it be enough to stop Mary--and Jess--before it's too late?
I'm always curious about these urban legend type stories. I can remember doing a stupid one where you were to look in a mirror in a candlelit room room, saying the Lord's Prayer and looking at your shoulder where the Devil would appear. Whether it was real or my mind projecting something, I saw the face of a demon and it freaked me out so bad I had nightmares for weeks. I never tried these dumb things again and I stopped my friend's husband from doing the Candyman thing many years later!
So this kind of story was always going to appeal to me. It has been on my TBR since October 2016 and I need to read it next year for sure. I have already planned out my reads for the rest of the year and can't fit it in yet!

Okay you're story is really freaky. With me it was always the "light as a feather" thing and I had a Ouija board terrify me so much once my college roommate and I drove all the way across town to put it in a dumpster - silly girl wanted to burn it! I'm pretty sure I've have this one and have heard some good things about it.
ReplyDeleteWe did some stupid things for sure as kids! That kind of thing leaves me freaked! The book sounds interesting so I hope it is good! My mum once tried a ouija board, asking it what was happening in the area and it spelled out FIRE. There was a big fire in a nearby house that night which scared them all!
DeleteThat sounds good. I think most kids have done the whole, "Bloody Mary" thing in the mirror when they were teens so I would probably like this.
ReplyDeleteI was never quite brave enough after my first piece of stupidity with the mirror! No doubt I imagined that face but it taught me a lesson for sure!
DeleteOK, that story is creepy lol
ReplyDeleteMy SIL can supposedly do the ouija board & contacting ghost in the house my husband grew up in. but I don't want anything to do with that.

I probably imagined the face but I've never forgotten what it looked like! Probably my imagination but I've never messed with that kind of stuff since then! I've never had the guts to mess with an OB but my mum did and she got a scare with it!
DeleteI read this one a few years ago and really liked it! It's a great scary ghost read.
ReplyDeleteI certainly hope I like it!
DeleteNope! No... Even the blurb freaked me out. The whole bloody Mary urban legend has always freaked me out so this would give me nightmares, lol.
ReplyDeleteUrban Legends fascinate me and I'd love to get a big book full of them to read!
DeleteBloody Mary is a really scary urban legend. I remember them always teasing with that one at sleepovers when I was kid. Hope you enjoy this, when you read it.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why we all feel the need as kids to scare ourselves with stuff like that!
DeleteI remember being scared to look in the mirror and say bloody mary three times as a kid. I actually have the second book in this series so I will probably need to get my hands on this one at some point. I hope you enjoy it, Chuckles!
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of people would have been as scared as you! You think 'it's just a dumb urban legend' but you don't quite want to mess with it just in case!
Deletei love this feature and it's good to have you joining in. the book looks great and i hope you enjoy it chuckles

I've been doing this feature for a couple of years or so and before that I took part in something similar to it called Throwback Thursday. I need to blog ahead a few weeks though as this was my last post ready to use...
DeleteOh! This legend is so spooky to me! I still avoid looking into mirrors at night!
ReplyDeleteIt does freak you out thinking about it coming true!
