Tudor Queens Book Tag

This book tag was created by Jess at https://jessticulates.com/ and I'm using her graphics to do the task. I love all things Tudor so I had to do this and if you want to take part, I tag you!

Elizabeth of York became the first Tudor queen when she married Henry VII in 1486, a marriage which brought an end to the Wars of the Roses. Even though their match grew into a genuine love match, Henry had to kill Elizabeth’s own uncle, Richard III, at the Battle of Bosworth to become king, so choose a book with a complicated family.

This series has a lot of complicated family relationships in it. Jeremy was almost murdered by his father Malcolm in a fight for control of the Pack. His adopted son Clay deliberatly infected girlfriend Elena and turned her into a werewolf. Their friend on the council, Paige the witch has fostered teen witch Savannah who killed her own father and Savannah's dead mother Eve is a sort of avenging angel. Paige's partner Lucas is the son of a supernatural mafia gangster who wants him to run the family business while he is a lawyer for the type of person who has been hurt by his dad's Cabal. Tricky!

Katherine was the first of Henry VIII’s six wives, and when Henry sought to divorce her she fought until the bitter end to remain his queen. It was a battle she ultimately lost. Choose a book you forced yourself to finish even though you weren’t enjoying it.

I'm not a person who continues on with books when I'm not enjoying them but back when I was a student I bought a lot of Stephen King and struggled to get through them. This one took me ages to plough through and it isn't one I enjoyed!

Henry was so enamoured by his second queen that he broke away from Rome and founded his own church just so he could marry her, but when she didn’t give him the son she promised he sent poor Anne to her death. Choose a book you used to love but wouldn’t love as much if you read it again now.

I came very close to DNFing this book when I first read it because I was getting a bit bored with the Edward being rude to Bella in the classroom scenes. I decided to give it one more chapter and the next one is where the story finally got into gear. If I went back to read this one now, I think I'd find it way too slow, and the same with the start of New Moon. I have less patience for slow books now!

Queen number three was only queen for a year and a half. She gave Henry the son he longed for, but died days later. Choose a book that was short and sweet.

This book was set during the zombie apocalypse where survivors had built barricades to make a secure community, safe from attack. The Kill Crew refers to the randomly chosen people who go out to destroy as many of the zombies as they can each day to enable the community to survive. I really enjoyed this 80 page novella.

Henry chose to marry his fourth queen after only seeing a portrait of her. Choose a book you bought/read because of the cover.

I never buy a book based purely on the cover. I have to like the sound of the plot before I choose what to read. However there are some books whose covers tempt me to read out of my comfort zone and these are two of them!

Henry’s fifth queen was the youngest of his wives and the least experienced for life at court. When she was accused of adultery, Henry sent her to the block. Choose a book with a forbidden romance.

I'm not a big reader of romance but I read this fantasy book about a gargoyle who had a human form and his forbidden love for the mistress he protects. It was so sad at times to see their pain and for once I was rooting for a couple!

Katherine has long been remembered as Henry’s sixth wife, but what she should be remembered for is being the first woman to publish an English book in England under her own name. Choose a book about books.

This book is about the daughter of communists being fostered by German couple, struggling to fit in with her family and the community. Liesel begins to steal books which become a big part of her life. I've always loved the cover of this book and the plot did make me cry!

Poor Jane was forced onto the throne to prevent her Catholic cousin, Mary, from taking charge in what had become a Protestant country. Mary brought an end to her reign after only nine days, and poor Jane paid the ultimate price for the position she’d been put in by the men around her when Mary sent her to the block. Choose a book that ended too soon.

I feel like that when I finish any great book! I'd say the Harry Potter world ended too quick as I'd love to see a trilogy about the first wizard war with Dumbledore recruiting his Order and the rise of Voldemort, right up to the betrayal of the Potters and the attack on the Longbottoms. I'd also love to see books about James and his friends at school.

Commonly know as Bloody Mary, Mary restored England to Catholicism and, during her four year reign, burned over 300 Protestants at the stake. Choose a book you would burn every copy of.

I'm not a believer in burning books even if I hated them. One reader might view it as trash but someone else loves it y'know? It all comes down to our personal opinion on every book we read. As far as I'm concerned there is no right or wrong opinion on any book. I'm going to pick a book I really didn't like which had the worst MC I've ever seen in any book I've read.

Though Anne Boleyn failed to give Henry a son, the daughter she gave him would rule England for 44 years and bring about what was known as The Golden Age. Choose a book with a royal main character

I had to choose a Tudor book for this one and The Boleyn Inheritance was one of my favourites. The story is told through several women. Anne of Cleves has married Henry and struggles to fit in at Court. Her lady-in-waiting Katherine Howard soon rises to replace her. Jane Boleyn plots with Katherine to let her meet her lover behind King Henry's back.

  1. What a fun tag and I really enjoyed reading your answer. I love gargoyles as well so I would probably root for that couple as well.

    1. Poor Gregory! I loved his character and it was really sad that they just couldn't be together! I don't get soppy about romance but this was different!

  2. Ooh, a tag that teaches me history stuff! Cool. The Tommyknockers was the first King book I ever read. I loved it, but I was 11 years old, so I wouldn’t trust my taste in literature. I had to force myself to finish Twilight. I didn’t like it at all.

    1. Twilight entertained me at the time but now I have little tolerance for slow burning books so I doubt I would like going back to it! I did like the plot not having mean kids at school and the Cullens were fun!

    1. I did enjoy Twilight at the time. I think I'd find it too slow now with my book tastes changing!

    1. I enjoyed the series but the last few books that focused on Savannah weren't as good for me. I loved the books about the Pack though!

  9. What a fun tag! I don't know nearly enough about the Tudor Queens but it's a subject I'd like to know more about and I love how each tag is linked to a Queen. I don't buy books strictly based on a cover either but I've picked up plenty of books at the library based only on the cover!

    1. I was recommended The Other Boleyn Girl by some friends online and after loving it, I watched The Tudors TV series. Since then I've been addicted to all things Tudor!

  10. I laughed out loud at the book you would burn every copy of. Z Minus was one I couldn't finish and that's something that almost never happens. Joshua and the Lightning Road was a fun series for me. This was a fun tag.

  11. I have been guilty of getting a book or two for the cover. I try never to do that anymore. I couldn't get into Twilight for the same reasons you almost DNF'd it. My daughter has also made me pay for this in her Twilight phase. Ughh (shudders).

  12. Thanks so much for doing this tag! =D I love The Book Thief - such a beautiful book - and you're definitely not the only who's struggled with Stephen King; I feel like King has really good ideas, but his endings are almost always rubbish.
