Chuckles Weekend Roundup

Welcome to my feature Chuckles Weekend Roundup where I will be looking at what books I've received, anything interesting I've done or bought or watched and other random stuff. I'll be taking a look back at what happened in my blogging world too, sort of like The Sunday Post that some of you do!

Please note that I'll be visiting your STS/SP as normal, but I don't follow or leave comments on blogs run by Google Plus, or DISQUS as I refuse to join something just to leave comments, and I won't allow DISQUS to follow new people, update my profile or post tweets 'on my behalf'. I am the only one who does that on my social media! I won't comment on any blog that makes me sign in using another account. Sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress-they try to block me because I deleted my account with them but I will persevere as it only happens the odd time!

Another week has gone by and overall it hasn't been bad. There has been enough of a breeze here to stop the really hot weather in the UK affecting us which is good, my bedroom is finished and looking neater than it has in years and I've got some quality reading done! I got all three of last week's picks read though I did go into the start of this month with one of them but that's ok, and I've already read two books this month! Go Chuckles! I hope I can keep that up over the whole month and can cram in lots of good reads! I'm hoping that a spell of insomnia that hit over the last few days doesn't end up wrecking this month's reading as I get this on and off and have done since I was 15. Still you just have to get on with stuff don't you!

On the booky side of thing, Amazon is annoying me this week. I don't appreciate using the one day delivery service on Thursday to get a notice that the item is coming on Sunday. They'll be refunding THAT payment, I can tell you. Plus I've had two different emails sent 5 minutes apart saying my other package will arrive today and my package will arrive tomorrow, and one sent before that saying it might take up to a week. Talk about confusing! And they wonder why I won't pay a yearly fee for Prime? Service has been getting worse all year but it's the only place I can get all the books I want so I'm stuck with it. *deep breath, focus on the books*

But on a bright note I got to pick more books from the piles that my neighbour's friend is giving away, all FREE! He found two other boxes and I had fun checking them out. So here they are! So pleased to get a few more Matthew Reilly and a few Stephen King, Jeffrey Deaver and Philippa Gregory that I didn't have or had on ebook, same with the Dinosaur Planet books!

GIFTED!

BOUGHT!

Chuckles Blogging World
It was a decent week of blogging all round, staying pretty much caught up on everything and working out possible reads for September and October. I'm feeling pretty organised at the moment! My next task might be going through all my book reviews on Goodreads and my blog and checking if I'm happy with the star ratings and changing those I'm not happy with. I dread to think how long that will take. I swear, I seem to want to invent more work for myself!!!

It was a great reading week! I read Salechii, The Great Zoo Of China and Endurance as planned, along with review copy of Bad Vision. I then started my August reads and have already read Wolf By Wolf and Final Destination 3! These are going to be my next three to start off a new week of reading!

  1. yay to free book! My fav treat! :) I had never heard of the King's title before. Can' wait for you to read it and let us know how good it is. Coincidentally, I also got a King's book that was on sale [Finer's keeper] at my local library. First one I buy of his because I have never been able to finish any of his books.

Sorry to hear Amazon din't delivered your books on time! and about all the confusing emails! Maybe they do that so you pay the prime! o.O because I do have prime and it hasn't happened to me. Sneaky people!

    1. The Stephen King books aren't going to be priority for reading-I basically grabbed them as they were free. I haven't really liked any of his recent work! But free is free! Oh there's no way I'm paying that amount a year for Prime when their service has become so poor!

  2. I added stray magic. Looks good.

  3. Yay for free books. We do get Prime but it's more for movies and stuff and not just free shipping. Plus until last year we got the student discount because Mr. Barb was in college. Even with Prime their shipping isn't always as they say but yep, they kind of have the market cornered. Glad you got your room done and hope the insomnia doesn't set in. It has been a tad cooler this week and we've had some rain each day which I have welcomed. I smell fall in the air!

    1. Autumn can't come soon enough for me! The start of lazy days in front of the tv with a fire on! I did a free trial of Prime a few years back and my first two orders came 2-3 days late so I cancelled it!

    1. I'd looked at Amazon for Matthew Reilly books and they aren't as easy to get as I thought so this was great, getting a few more! The books are in great condition and from a non smoking household!

  7. Ooh, I never even knew Anne McCaffrey had a book called Dinosaur Planet. Now I'm curious!

    1. I read it years ago and I'm sure it was a decent read but just not what I expected. So I think a reread will give me a true reflection of the book!

  8. Good luck with getting lots of reading done. Amazon’s shipping annoys me, too. It seems like things get delayed a lot. Though, they’ve been better since they opened a fulfillment warehouse near my house. My last order came the day after I ordered it.

  9. You're cooling down a bit and we're heating up! LOL I love the Matthew Reilly series. Kind of reminds me of Lincoln & Child's. Action packed with a bit of the myserious. Great hau;! The Dragonrider's of Pern is my all time favorite series and I want to read her Dinosaur Planet series too.

    1. I think I was expecting Jurassic Park and that's why I didn't rate it high first time round but this time I plan to rate it fairly in it's own right! I've enjoyed Contest and The Great Zoo Of China so I hope I'll like those two series he's done as much as the individual books.

  10. Oh my gosh! I wish my neighbor had some awesome books like that to give to me! Those are some great additions for your shelves. Amazon's delivery isn't as good as it once was. I have been given 3 or 4 delivery dates for my GOT dvd set and now they say it should be here today. We will have to see. Have a great week and enjoy your new books!

  11. Overall, it sounds like a good week. So many good books, but I love dinosaurs and creature features. I don't see enough of them, so Anne McCaffrey caught my eye. I'm not sure if I have read any of her or not. I am off to Goodreads to check her out.

    1. A big book haul always makes you feel better about things! This was the only book of hers that I've read as her other books never really interested me. I'm looking forward to rereading it and actually reviewing it this time!

The Last One looks pretty good too!

  14. Cool that you got some freebies. When I stop at any garage sale I always zero in on the books - love those book bins. I missed my library's book sale and I could kick myself for that. Have a wonderful week! =)
