Top Ten Tuesday-Liked but Forgot

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This Week...Books I Really Liked but Can’t Remember Anything/Much About. I'm doing books I read a while back that I liked but haven't read recently.

1) Jung Chang-Wild Swans
Memoir of three generations of women in China-a warlord's concubine, a Maoist during the Cultural Revolution and a young woman deemed an enemy of the state. This was a great read and I gave it 5 stars at the time in 2010.

2) Markus Zusak-The Book Thief
A girl from a communist family is adopted by a German family who are suspected of not being Hitler supporters. Struggling to find her identity, she finds solace in stealing books. I really want to watch the film and shed more tears. Read 2010.

3) Khaled Hosseini-The Kite Runner
A boy from a rich family disowns his servant friend after a shocking incident but many years later finds redemption against the backdrop of the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan. I read it in 2010 and cried a lot.

4) Heather Gudenkauf-The Weight of Silence
Two seven year old girls are missing in the woods and the investigation begins. It's a race against time to find them as someone dangerous is lurking out there. This was a good thriller with a switching viewpoint and I remember liking it. Read 2010.

5) Zoe Heller-Notes on a Scandal
A lonely schoolteacher becomes friends with a young teacher who is having an affair with a pupil. Barbara's obsessive friendship with Sheba is going to take a darker turn and there will be a scandal. Enjoyable book and good film, read in 2010.

6) Wendy Jean-Unstolen
Bethany's childhood is blighted by the mystery of her missing brother and now that she is a mother, she has to deal with her own mother murdering what seems to be a random stranger. I liked the dual stories showing her childhood and adulthood. Read 2010.

7) Audrey Niffenegger-The Time Traveller's Wife
Henry has an illness that sends him back and forward in time, making it difficult to maintain his relationship with Clare, and having a dangerous effect on his health. Sad book and sad film but I enjoyed both. Read 2010.

8) Curtis Sittenfeld-American Wife
Alice kills the boy she loves in a fatal car crash and gets into a destructive relationship. Years later she is marrying a man who could be the next President. This book was said to be based on the life of Laura Bush and it was fascinating. Read 2010.

9) Dean Koontz-Lightning
Each time lightning strikes, a crucial event happens in Laura's life. Growing up in a children's home with a pervert on the loose, a guardian angel appears whenever she is in trouble. Time travel thriller with Nazis too! Read 2010.

10) Sherri Fulmer Moorer-Move

  1. I read an Audrey Niffenegger book once but can't remember which one. Maybe it was Sisters - if that's by her. I just finished an interactive kindle novella by Dean Koontz which was pretty good. I was hesitant about the interactive part but it was kind of cool. Plus I was able to borrow it for free with my Prime account so it was a win-win. Thanks for sharing your list!

    1. It's the only one I read by the author-this was during a contemporary and mystery/thriller phase I had but I kind of left those books behind when I found Indie horror, apocalypse and zombies. I did like it at the time though but I wouldn't read it again. Dean Koontz was very hit and miss for me but I loved Lightning!

  2. I wrote my grad school thesis on The Book Thief, so it’s impossible for me to forget it. I had to read it a billion times. I also don’t remember The Time Traveler’s Wife very well. I know I liked it.

Aj @ Read All The Things!

    1. As much as I liked these books at the time, I don't think I could've read any of them that many times! I think I'll restrain myself from a thesis unless I get to do Harry Potter!

  3. Nice list. I have some of these yet to read. Funny how quickly we forget why we liked a book. Shows just how much we read!

    1. It does doesn't it! I was pleased with this topic as it gave me a chance to highlight good stuff in the genres I used to read.

  4. I read Lighting years ago and can't remember a thing about it. Not even the Nazi bit. I skipped this TTT because as I started going through my read books at Goodreads I realized I had about 50 that I liked but couldn't remember.

    1. I've got quite a few more I could've used but I figured I'd pick some from genres I don't really read now, as something different to talk about! I really need to re-read Lightning at some point.
