Chuckles Chuntering

This is turning into another week where I wonder why I actually bother with anything. I'm getting increasingly angry with events in the news, I'm getting frustrated by the sheer amount of stuff that needs done in the house and garden which the weather, money and health issues are getting in the way of, and overwhelmed by the ton of stuff needing done on the computer each day just to stay caught up with everything. I can understand why bears just want to hibernate and get some peace!!!

I'm reading lots right now which is causing its own problems because I can't seem to get caught up with the pesky book review backlog. I seem to be about 3/4 weeks behind and I want to get caught up. Then I could catch up with my Goodreads reviews where reviews I previously posted there seem to have gone missing and I need to re-write the gits. That will take months and months but I can't do it until all my current book reviews are dealt with. Rarg! But at the moment I can't find the time to just rattle off these 20 or so reviews to catch up and I'm getting annoyed with myself.

I'm again trying to consider options. There might be some minor disruption around my blog, Bloglovin, Goodreads and Twitter accounts as I'm playing around with settings as I'm fed up with Russian sex bots, spammers, foul mouthed Remoaners having a go at me, Vampire Kings and other assorted idiots annoying me. I'm trying to consider things like switching the accounts to private without making it too hard for you guys to comment, block specific users, just make it better in some way...I don't know. I'm hoping none of you have any trouble with your comments. If there is an issue and you follow me on Twitter or Goodreads, let me know there and I can try a few different settings. I'd love to make the blog private in some way but I hear it means that you'd all need to be invited by email and have to sign in for every comment and I don't like the sound of that.

I'll be taking a bit of time this week to try and get stuff done in the house and maybe by a miracle get a pile of book reviews saved up and ready to publish. It might be the weekend before I get the chance to visit you and answer comments. Also don't worry if your comments don't get published for a few days-it just means I haven't moderated them yet, nothing to worry about!

  1. I'm sorry to hear that you're having so many problems with people and spammers on your blog. I get some spammers I just delete the comments. It is annoying though.

  2. Whoever created the act of spamming so be damned in their afterlife. It's so invasive and annoying. Good luck with all that.

    1. I am tempted to switch the blog fully to private though it defeats the whole point of doing the blog in the first place!

  3. Good luck with all your stuff! :)

  4. I can definitely understand your frustration! Whatever you end up doing good luck with it- it can be hard to keep up with everything! Sometimes I just want to chuck all my social media accounts lol rather than worry about updating them. :)

    1. At the weekend, I was ready to just pull the plug on all of it, blog included and just go to my bed for a few weeks! I just feel annoyed all the time!

  5. Your Goodreads reviews go missing??? How odd. I hope you find something that works for you.

    1. It's been an ongoing issue for years but Goodreads deny it happened. Fact is I know I did these reviews and posted them but years later they aren't there! Grr!

  6. I don't get a whole lot of spam and am sorry that you are having to deal with it. I am starting to get a bit of a review backlog myself. I have a really bad habit of waiting until the night before a review posts to write it. I have been reading pretty fast so the reviews I need to write are stacking up. You would think I would have figured out a system by now.

    1. Everything kind of feels like a chore at the moment y'know? I want to just sit in front of the TV and do nothing but the brain reminds you of how many reviews you need to write, how many books you still need to read, how you haven't replied to your comments or done any blog visits etc! I've given up trying to think of a system but I certainly need one!

  7. The Vampire Lord tried to recruit me again this week too so I feel your pain. It seems like I get tons of spam as well and I don't know that there's an easy answer. If you find one, clue me in! And that's just awful about Goodreads!

    1. If I thought it was genuine, I'd become a vampire and time wouldn't seem so darned important! There would be lots of time for blogs and book reviews! Too many things are bugging me and weighing me down and I need a solution quickly!

  8. I don't think I'd even notice if my goodreads reviews went missing unless it was one I'd recently published... I'd lose my nut if I'd just written it. Good luck catching up!

I must admit that I don't that any issues with spam comments. I guess it's only a matter of time though. :(

    1. It's really annoying to see the stupid things vanish! From now on I'm ensuring that each review is on two or three sites so if they vanish again, I can just take a copy and re-do it in a few seconds!

  9. yep, spam is the curse of blogging. Since I mostly use wordpress their spam filter does a great job of culling the stuff out. I just check my spam folder once a day and delete it all. My blog isn't as big as yours nor as wide ranging in interest, so I suspect that helps keep it down on my site :-)

I feel your pain about reading and writing reviews. Now that I'm in the process of switching jobs and doing extra "math stuff" at home, my reading has dropped, which means my reviews will drop and I'm ok with that :-D

Good luck sorting it all out. Sadly, there aren't any easy answers IF you want to stay social. If you didn't care, then you could just write reviews in a word document and store them on your computer or something like that. However, I've never met a blogger who liked to do that :-)

    1. I wonder why they bother spamming a blog as small as mine but it is REALLY annoying! Thankfully with comment moderation I can avoid it making it to the blog but it does bug me. Why do us book lovers hate writing reviews so much! Ugh, it just takes me so long and that's with the notes I take while I'm reading!

I've been thinking a lot about the blog and the best way forward and thankfully I'm starting to get ideas for a way forward!

  10. I'm very slowly going through my backlog of posts from my favorites. I'm so sorry you were struggling so much this week. I totally understand how you feel. I hate weeks where everything just seems to be off!

    1. I seem to be getting too many of these spells right now. I'm back to feeling tired again-need to start a new book AND get a good night's sleep!
