This is pretty much the weather we've had this week and our poor grey squirrel troop are getting soaked when they come to feed, poor wee guys! They look like drowned rats! I'm glad we're feeding them so they will be nicely looked after this winter but the little beggars have gone through 11kg of monkey nuts in about five weeks!!! I'd post a photo but I'm done with battling blogger over inserting images. We do love watching their quirky antics and they actually 'tell' us when there is a cat in the garden or something upsets them. They're getting quite tame and I love sitting in the garden to talk to them as they feed! They seem to listen and can understand what we try to tell them sometimes. They have kept me sane this summer. At the moment we definitely have five, possibly six but we haven't sighted all six together so we can't be sure but we regularly see four or five at the same time.
For those of you not familiar with Dave (above), he is a furry pumpkin toy that I rescued from the shelves of Asda many years ago, giving him safe harbour from psycho pumpkin eaters every autumn! Dave is very much part of the family and will be co-hosting Spooky Booky Month with me, here at the Book Cave. Dave loves horror books and we hope to be reading a few this year and enjoying a break from Covid reality together!
As for Blogger, I'm just not wanting to use it much right now, at least until it sorts this graphics mess out. Jeez I'm so sick of that, and having to switch to 'normal' every time I want to
leave a space...stupid Blogger! I'm sorry I haven't been around much
over the last two weeks. Part of it is losing the motivation to do posts
on the new Blogger, which is frustrating because I WANT to connect with
everyone! At the moment I just can't face complicated posts with lots
of graphics because of all the hassle. I'm still lurking on your blogs,
posting comments there, answering comments here and doing a few posts
each week but it just isn't the same. I had big plans for lots of lists and book tags and fun things for October that have been shelved due to Blogger issues.
I don't feel like reading, yet it isn't stopping me buying a pile of books this summer. Yes they are all books I want but when your TBR is going up again it is depressing. I'm also fed up with the state of my room. Every time I go in and out I fall over something or knock something over. The plan was before winter, I'd get the room sorted but I have so little energy, the very idea of it knackers me. I need to clear out the shelves of the big TV unit my dad built for me and get rid of stuff I'm not using. That would clear some floor space for me and give me space to store books or dvds. But here's the kicker...to get the room back into a decent living area, I'll need to remove a whole bookcase so the other bookcases can all be put against a wall and my chair can be used for reading instead of as a clothes hanger.
*shudders with fear*
The idea is to clear out the crap from all my bookshelves with a double depth (a row of stuff in the back of each then a row at the front) by getting rid of old VHS tapes, guide books to places I'll never visit, maps, unwanted books etc. Then I can get books I've read in the back out of sight and the TBR lot at the front. The idea of removing a whole bookcase scares me but I need to do it to get control of the books I own and give me space to sit in my chair in read or have space to play my Wii. It sort of has to be done and one of them does have a broken shelf, so it would be the one I'd get rid of. But first I need to do the TV unit some night. *groans* My dad and I are also buying in plastic storage boxes to replace all the cardboard boxes that we've been storing stuff in as spiders seem to love those boxes. Yuk.

What a nice update. I love hearing how you both are doing and your squirrels sound awesome. Nice to have some new friends. We have a couple of black ones in our neighborhood who have been fattening up for winter.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice seeing Dave back and I look forward to what you can post of spooky October. I'm reading and trying to avoid as much of the news as possible. The election is nuts as you are well aware and watching a certain person make stupid comments is driving me bonkers and makes me so mad.
I've been working on my "spare" room/library. I'm making real headway and am picking up two new shelves tomorrow.
Lots of furry friends! I feel as if they are trying to understand what I'm saying-that quizzical look on their furry faces is funny! It's relaxing to be able to interact with them. Good for the blood pressure!
DeleteI've got another four horror related TTT posts ready to go for this month in spite of Blogger trying to get in my way with the stupid spacing issue! The news over here is so biased that I just stopped watching it. My dad likes CNN to see the latest from the Trump Show!
Ooh, a library! I'll be interested to see how you are getting on with the project!
I'm glad you're doing well! Your squirrels sound so cute. I'm envious of your rain. We haven't had any rain to speak of all summer long. It's just been hot and dry, with wildfires every other week. Maybe things will finally start to cool down in October. :)
ReplyDeleteWe get enough rain here to keep things green so I'm generally ok with our climate. I hate the storms and heatwaves but we only get them the odd time thankfully. I hope things cool down for you soon. Wildfires are so horrible to watch on the news...I hope you are well away from them.
DeleteIt’s peeing down here but I believe the next two days will be clear before it pees down again at the weekend, hopefully it’ll keep people away.
ReplyDeleteBlogger for me has reverted back to legacy, I have no idea why, it had stuck itself on the new one the other week and I had resigned myself to the new one, it’s a pain.
I braved Perth the other day and my dad asked me to pick up a massive bag of bird peanuts, I thought they were for the birds but no it’s for the squirrels that crowd on his bird table!
Bookcase removal is always traumatic, I considered it here but I ended up donating books instead to free up space.
Stay safe!
I wish Blogger would revert me back to Legacy! The spacing and graphics issues have me climbing the wall! As does that SNP MP who is refusing to quit after travelling all over the joint while she had the virus!!!
DeleteI'm totally avoiding the shops right now as I'm a bit scared to go out! Asda and Amazon are getting most of my trade! I'm getting my monkey nuts delivered to the house for the squirrels in 11kg bags! Bookcase removal is going to be a nightmare but it is going to have to be done!
I love squirrels but we don't have any where I live. I'm sure they are in the park or in the mountains but I never seen them. Blogger is giving a lot of people problems.
ReplyDeleteI feel as though Blogger is going to be the bane of my life for a while. They know how to suck the life out of blogging for sure. The squirrels do cheer me up though. They are all over our residential area...so cute!
DeleteI’m a psycho pumpkin eater! I love pumpkin and have already made and eaten pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. I have also lost a lot of my motivation to blog with new Blogger. I have 3 posts typed up in Word documents, but I need a lot of hours to get them formatted in a sensible way, and I don’t have a lot of hours for blogging. :(
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Oh no you scumbag!!! *giggles* Dave says you are on his 'don't visit' list! I do like ordinary chocolate chip cookies though...My blogging motivation has hit a wall recently and it is getting harder to want to do it!
DeleteI've been dealing with a sick cat and just general blahs so my reading is awful. But I just got approved for 2 review books and have to write 2 more for books I've already read - so I need to get over it lol
ReplyDeletebackyard animals are so entertaining! I had a tortoise in FL that had a burrow in my yard - her would leave every morning, walk past the dogs and go off for the day then come back every afternoon. I named him Jon Snow lol
Karen @ For What It's Worth
Ugh what a horrible time you're having. I'm no cat fan as they try to eat our squirrels, but I really hope yours is going to be ok. Book reviews-what are they???!!! I haven't written one in ages! Jon Snow is a great name for it as he was a bit slow on the uptake!
DeleteI'm glad you're doing well and enjoying the squirrels. We don't really have squirrels here (10th floor apartment in the middle of a pretty sizable city) and I miss them! They can be pests but they're such cheerful little creatures. I'm a bit exhausted just thinking about the reorganization you're talking about but I'm sure it'll be one of those things that will be fantastic once you're done.
ReplyDeleteThey are so full and fun and have such cute faces! They can fairly put away the food though and we are feeding five, maybe six at the moment! I'm trying to talk myself into getting on with the stuff moving. I know life will be easier after I do it but I have no motivation to start!
