Winter Blues #8

FRIDAY
Workmen appeared on our doorstep this afternoon to tell us that they were laying new superfast broadband cables in our street and that they would be digging trenches in the pavement for the purpose-meaning they would be digging up part of our driveway. They assured us that they would be working outside our house for 2-3 days and in our street for about two weeks. Not ideal but these things have to be done I suppose. We ended up outside watching them dig the trench outside four houses as there was nothing much of interest on the TV. The big excitement came about thirty minutes later when some of our neighbours came out to say that their internet and phone had suddenly shut off, which seemed a bit suspicious. The workmen instantly denied cutting through any cables but a good few houses were effected. Thankfully we are cable so our cables are protected by a big insulated thick covering and our coverage wasn't affected.

SATURDAY
One of our neighbours spent last night on the phone to their provider reading the riot act and trying to get them to come out to check on the cables. A diagnostic check last night showed that there was no fault in the provider's signal so a man was sent out today to take a look at the cables and the junction box for damage. It turns out that the workmen DID cut through a cable and cut the service. It took about three hours for the guy to get everything fixed but service was restored for everyone by the afternoon. Nice work by the Open Reach man! He looked a bit embarrassed when he was thanked by our excited neighbour! He might have got a big hug and a kiss had it not been for Covid!

It was another good day in the league for St Mirren as we drew with 4th placed Aberdeen away from home, where our record is pretty poor. Another point is good though other results drop us down a place. I'm still happy with our progress this season.

SUNDAY
The workman filled in the trench today and smoothed down the patch in the driveway. Fair play to them, they did pretty much put everything back the way they found it, cleared up after themselves and finished when they said they would. And nobody fell down the trench and killed themselves due to them securing it well while they were working, so lets count that as an overall win! We've still heard nothing about when this bloody fence is being dealt with and my dad is getting irritated about it. He's going to phone and get a few answers this week. I just want it over and done with and we're tired of all the wood and bags of cement lying all over the garden.

Donald Trump has been found not guilty. Well, I never expected him to be convicted. Unless Trump was heard saying 'break into that building, hunt down politicians who stand against me and hurt them and other people you find', I couldn't see how a conviction could be obtained. Whatever you thought his march on the building and fight comments actually meant, what did Trump himself mean by them? After all, we had this 'what was meant' carry on already with Bill Clinton over what constituted sexual relations and whether he lied or misled, and he wasn't convicted! It all felt like a giant waste of time when the result was clear before it started due to party numbers and the two thirds vote. Now Trump is a martyr to his base and could run again. I wouldn't be surprised if he wins. It'll depend who he runs against I guess.

MONDAY
Got to work on the blog preparing a few upcoming posts for this week-Top Ten Tuesday focuses on Mardi Gras colour covers, and then I got my B post ready for my Alphabet Likes & Dislikes. People may be divided on this post due to the subject I selected for B's dislike. Well sorry if people don't agree or don't like it but I'm tired of hiding my thoughts on my own blog for fear that someone is going to be offended by me not agreeing with them! Anyway, it'll be posted right after I do this one and anyone can unfollow me if they so wish!

My healthier routine continues. I've been doing exercises for over a week now, every day for roughly 20-30 minutes depending on how tired I feel each day. I also ditched some of the junk food and I'm trying to find tasty but healthy snacks that can be delivered. Asda do a few nice fruit and veg salads that I've been sampling but the down side is that I now will need a weekly delivery slot to get everything fresh and in date! I HATE delivery days! All that washing down the packaging is so time consuming!!! Early start for that tomorrow...

  1. Yay for getting healthy. I've been riding my recumbant bike much more lately but need to incorporate some stretching or pilates or SOMETHING. Don't even get me started on the whole Trump thing. I did hear that he may face criminal state and federal charges for his actions. I'd like to think the system works but don't have much hope.

    1. I'm doing my daily exercises to strengthen and tone at the moment, nothing too high impact! Crunches and stuff like that for everything from the stomach down! That's where I have the weight issues. I'm on a diet of salads and pasta at the moment and I don't feel as slugglish in the mornings so that's a good start!

  2. I seriously doubt that Trump will want to run again. He's pretty old now and I am just hoping he won't.

It's your blog, post what you want. I'm really not controversial but I will post whatever I want. lol

    1. I think Trump's wife hopes that he doesn't run again! She really seemed very reluctant to be First Lady and always looked miserable! Trump does look in better health than Biden though so who knows what he'll do. I don't plan to make a habit of big opinion posts but the alphabet thing seems to be throwing up that kind of topic at the moment!
