Autumn Blues #4

Sorry guys, we haven't been around much this last week or so. Dave here, catching you all up on our latest news, or lack of it! The weather has been cold and wet with a few minor storm systems coming into the UK. Makes you want to curl up in front of the fire with some hot chocolate, peanuts, chocolate and a nice Harry Potter book or film!

Mum has been ordering like a demon online before she takes a break from shopping for Christmas. She's been in a Harry Potter mood, buying potion drinks, skeleton water bottles, butterbeer, Harry Potter chocolate AND a few behind the scenes books she didn't know existed. One of the books was so big that you could knock out burglars...if you had the strength to lift the bugger in the first place! We are looking forward to reading them. Mum did read The Philosopher's Stone to me over the last two days as she was just in the mood to read it again. It doesn't alter the TBR total but it meant she wanted to read some fiction which is an improvement!

Mum has also been getting in some treat items for the winter hibernation. There has been a lot of Lindt chocolate drifting by my sensitive nose in cardboard boxes this week. She's hiding them for TV treats. We also have all the food for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year meals-prawns and cocktail sauce, turkey joints with sage and onion stuffing, bread sauce, roast spuds, Mint Vienetta, single cream, Harry Potter butterbeer, cheese and biscuits, Terry's Chocolate Orange, After Eight Mints, various peanuts and other sweet and savoury stuff...YUM! Our winter chocolate collection has been building and looks pretty good overall. I'm already wanting to chomp, and believe me, a salivating pumpkin is not a pretty sight...

We now have confirmed that there are six squirrels feeding in the garden. We have a nice supply of monkey nuts in for them but the rate they are eating makes me worry if we have enough for them. They are cute guys though. They sit and listen when Mum talks to them. She has a couple of hand signals for when it is safe to eat and when they need to take cover and two of them respond straight away to the prompts which is very cute to watch!

We are meant to be in the middle of a vast clearout but Mum can't seem to get motivated to do it yet. It will be hard work and will be great when done but she is tired and grumpy right now so I don't want to push it you know? If we can get the first part done in the next week or so it will motivate her to get rid of that broken bookcase and free up some space for all of us to move without risking decapitation falling over book piles on the floor! But if I nag too much, she might cut off my chocolate supply and THAT would be a disaster!

Look after yourselves, chaps and chapesses!
love Dave

    1. I'm not a fan of those festive mince pies for Christmas but I do like a full size mince pie with minced beef and gravy in them!

    1. Lindt really are the Chocolate Masters! I've ordered in mint, ordinary milk, white chocolate and strawberry and cream, but those bars with the melted chocolate in the centre!

    1. Exactly! Having everything on order by Halloween means getting it all delivered ahead of the Christmas and Black Friday rush!

  4. At least you're not dealing with an election at the moment. I cannot wait until this bloody election is over.
I've unplugged our home phone as the robo-calls just come in non-stop...

    1. I'm so glad not to be in amongst the election stuff. The campaigns you need to suffer through from the selection of candidates to voting day, and all the campaign ads sounds like a bit of a nightmare! Over here it is a six week campaign and we see about one ad each from the major parties.

I do love election night coverage in the US. It's more exciting seeing states declaring every hour or half hour. Here at 10pm when the polls close, the exit poll says who won and roughly how many seats everyone got. It's usually pretty accurate. Bit of an anti-climax!

  5. Those potion drinks look fun. :) And yay for getting stocked up... I'm a little jealous I think as I'm not quite that prepared yet! Turkey though with sage and onion dressing... mmm I'm lookig forward to some turkey feating in Nov.

Lindt chocolates too. You're giving me some ideas...

That's hilarious the squirrels are learning hand signals! Smarties...

    1. They tasted nice for being sugar free and I loved the glittery swirls through the liquids! I like to get all the food I need in as soon as I can so there is no mad panic nearer the time. Lindt chocolate is the best but I have bought After Eight mints and Terry's Chocolate Oranges as they are a family tradition.

  7. Buying all things HP sounds good to me. Here in the states election fatigue and worry are building as we enter next week. Cold weather has set in and I tend to stay indoors.

    1. Part of the concern must be that this will be decided in the courts. I hope there is a clear result one way or the author. I must admit I'm glad I don't have to choose!

  8. Dave, DO NOT risk the chocolate supply. Mom will do the work when she feels like it. I love that you have lots of squirrels to watch and hope that as Halloween night approaches, you are taking lots of safety precautions to stay safe!

    1. Dave means well so I won't cut off his chocolate supply! Actually he made me go and get it done so that's a good thing! The squirrels are not enjoying these high winds, the poor wee guys!

Dave: Thanks for your concern Auntie Barb! I had a quiet night reading The Chamber of Secrets and being hand fed my chocolate!
