New Chuckles Update

Just to keep you all updated on what has been happening. Late on Friday night my uncle passed away and my dad told me about it on Saturday morning. While we are devastated about it, he isn't in any more pain and suffering which we are grateful for. My dad and I are doing ok considering, and we'll get through this. Thank you all so much for your kind thoughts which we both appreciate.

We are starting the task of the legal stuff and arrangements while trying to find all my uncle's paperwork regarding utilities and payments and insurances. My uncle was a dreadful hoarder of junk so clearing up was fun in the middle of a heatwave here! He also liked spiders and never got rid of them so there were quite a few big ones in the house which had me freaking out! Ach you have to laugh about these things or you'd go mad...

I haven't been online because of the days of sorting and tidying at his house but I'm now confined to the house because I've come down with hay fever for some reason. I've had hay fever three times in my life, the last bout being about ten years ago so it's really annoying to get it when we have so much to do. I'll be back online hopefully tomorrow and back into a routine. I'll be catching up on comments at the blog first then visiting your blogs and getting back to normal.

I look forward to 'seeing' you all in the next couple of days.
Chuckles

PS Bookstooge, if you see this, I haven't tried the new Blogger set up but I've heard mixed things about it. Ugh why do they need to change everything???!!! I'll take a look at the new set up tomorrow and get back to you.

  1. I'm glad your uncle is not in pain any more, but I'm so sorry for your loss! And then having to clear out his house... it's all so hard and sad. Hang in there!

    1. Thanks Lark. I think it was better for him this way rather than years of becoming housebound with that terminal lung condition deteriorating him. It still doesn't feel real in a way.

  2. I'm so sorry for your loss. So many lives are being taken and I'm convinced the world has just gone mad. You and your father are in my prayers and take all the time you need. Take care.

    1. Thanks Barb. It'll feel weird each time I love at the Covid 19 death stats and realise my uncle is one of them. I can't get my head around it. For us, it was the terminal lung condition that was killing him slowly and I still feel that is what killed him. The virus just helped to speed it up a bit. We're doing ok-a lot to do off the blog but getting back to my routine will be a good thing in amongst the chaos.

  3. I'm sorry to hear about your uncle - also, I have been reading your updates and I thought they were talking of discharging him as soon as possible? so I didn't expect this. Having to deal with paperwork and stuff (and spiders!) on top of this must be no fun...and hay fever, because all the rest wasn't enough already! My condolences to you and your dad.

    1. Thanks Roberta. The whole thing was crazy. The ward he was in had no intention of sending him home as he was too ill plus he then caught the virus, but the department in charge of care outside the hospital kept giving us instructions for him getting on. It was all pretty confusing. This heatwave seems to caused a mass outbreak of hay fever which is a pain! I hope it cools down soon so we can get stuff done...

  7. *Hugs.* Good luck with finding the paperwork. My grandpa was a hoarder, and his house was a nightmare to deal with after he died. Bugs and trash everywhere.

    1. We're finding too many horrors in the house-fireplace ripped out with soot everywhere and a freezer so full of ice that it isn't working so all the shelves of meat were going off. It really stinks.

  8. I know it was expected, but I'm sorry for your loss and my thoughts are with you and your father.

I would come clear out the spiders for you if I could :-) And stay away from that new blogger as long as you can!

    1. We're struggling to find all the legal documents we need from the mess. My uncle said he hid everything in case of burglars but he hid it so well that we can't find any of it. Spiders ugh-why can't they look like butterflies!!!

  9. Glad things are going as well as can be expected in regards to getting all his stuff taken care of.

And thanks for the heads up about the new blogger. I tried it, for one post, and immediately have switched back to the legacy editor. I'm not going to switch until they FORCE me too :-(

    1. We finally got the death certificate and stuff today so now we can get on with funeral arrangements thankfully. I'll be glad when this legal stuff is over with.

It's horrible that new Blogger! WHY do they always mess with stuff that we're happy with? I still hate the new Twitter set up and I use it even less now. I hope Blogger isn't going to go the same way.

    2. I'll seriously consider if I want to continue using blogger if they force the change on us. It makes writing so much harder! I just want to write my posts, you know, not format some wondrous webpage for the brain dead masses.

    3. I couldn't agree more. My blog is a simple thing with a small following and I just want to do some fun posts and enjoy it. I don't want it to be a difficult chore or some test I have to master!

  10. I'm so sorry about your uncle. I stayed away from the new wordpress as long as I could until it updated itself. It was a mess to sort out some things once it did.

    1. I feel that I only have limited time on the blog plus I'm discovering the fun of art and craft projects again, so I don't want to spend a ton of time sorting, adapting and learning new stuff. If they force me to change to something complicated and time consuming, I'd just shut down the blog completely.

  11. I am so very sorry for your loss, Chuckles. I was really hoping that things would not work out this way. I will be keeping you and your dad in my thoughts and prayers.

    1. Thanks for your kind words Nicci. I think part of us were expecting the worst deep down but it was better for my uncle to move on and be pain free.

It reminds me of the new Twitter which I don't like either. Why do they need to mess with everything? If they force me over to it, I'll probably quit the blog.

    1. I just want to wave a wand, do a spell and have the place neat and tidy and ready to sell but we're months away from that. Ugh it's just so time consuming and draining for my dad. We're doing ok though, thanks for asking.
