WEDNESDAY
It's time for the humiliation moment of the week! My dad phoned the insurance company about the oven and they asked us to find out if any local electrical shops can repair fan assisted ovens or if we'll need a new one. I decided to look for that info online because lockdown is keeping so many shops closed and I found a forum where people were discussing losing their oven after a power cut. One guy said 'but when you reset the clock on the oven it comes back as it has just returned to startup mode'. I went into the kitchen, reset the oven clock in ten seconds...and the oven started purring again. I felt like a right idiot! Imagine I'd called out an electrician and he just did that to fix it! (and charged about £100 for the 'repair'!!!!!) In my defence I've never used the oven timer so I had no clue that it could stop your oven working if it stops! *embarrassed shuffle*
THURSDAY
My dad got the last of the legal phone calls out of the way ie insurances, energy companies, council tax and state benefits etc and cancelled all my uncle's direct debits. We have to fill out claim forms for life insurance but the worst of that stuff is over. We don't pay council tax on the house for six months and if it is ready to sell by then, we don't pay any again on the house which is all good. Things are gradually getting done.
FRIDAY
Part one of The Big Chuckles Tidy Up has begun! My dad and I went through all of our legal documents, shredding what we no longer needed that our personal details were on, sorting stuff out into years and companies and throwing out any rubbish we found in it ie instruction books. It took most of the day but everything is now neat and properly organised which is a good step forward.
SATURDAY/SUNDAY
We decided to get our living room, hall and kitchen sorted. For years too much shit has been lying around to trip over and break ankles on! This weekend we decided to clear the mess which meant emptying and moving six bookcases that were full of dvds, then sorting it all into alphabetical and genre and putting it back. We also stored stuff on top of bookcases and in cupboards out of the way. It doesn't sound like hard work but our house is small and moving bookcases through small gaps in the piles of dvds was tough and finding space to sort them was a nightmare! I also tidied up the kitchen. We started at 8am and finished for the night at 2130pm. We still have to put stuff back into four of the bookcases tomorrow and that'll be another job done. I'll be glad as we are both aching!
Can I ask everyone to keep Mary and Katherine in their prayers tonight as their families are going through some testing times. I hope everyone else out there is staying as safe as possible and looking after each other.

Sounds like you had a productive weekend! Yay for getting so many things shredded, sorted, moved and organized. And I'm glad your oven isn't broken after all. And I'll definitely keep Mary and Katherine in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteIt's been productive-something that we'd been putting off for a long time! It's been a really knackering but rewarding week! Thank you for thinking of our blogger friends at this time. x
DeleteI will definitely keep them in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteHey, think of it this way. You were resourceful enough to fix the stove by yourself without a repair man. I think that's a win!
Sounds like you've been very productive. Hope you and Dad have a great week and the puppers say hello!
Thank you Barb. So many people are facing struggles that are even more difficult due to the virus being around.
Delete*giggles* I felt dumb at first but I'm just relieved it is fixed now and that I discovered the error before a repairman was called! Give the furry guys a big hug for me!
I laughed at your oven thing, because something similar happened to me with my furnace and ac when I first bought my condo. Only I DID pay the ac guy to throw the breaker switch, hahahahaaa. Lesson learned the expensive way! so good on you for saving all that money.
ReplyDeleteOh no! I do feel a little better knowing that others have done something similar! It's a relief just to have the oven working again! I really didn't need to go shopping for a new one right now!
DeleteI appreciate the kind words. I had no idea that a timer could do that to an oven. But when I first got my laptop the date and time were off and it wouldn't work for me at all until I changed the date to the right one and then it worked. Google is our friend. lol
ReplyDeleteYou guys are in my thoughts every day Mary and I hope that you are holding up ok.
DeleteTechnology is just baffling at times! Google is certainly my friend after the oven thing!
I'm the queen of missing a simple button to reset things so don't be embarrassed lol
ReplyDeleteYou sound like you're getting a ton done though!
