Top Ten Tuesday-Things That Freaked Me Out In Films

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.  http://www.thatartsyreadergirl.com/top-ten-tuesday/

I'm totally changing direction to do scenes in films that creeped me out or freaked me out.

1) Nosferatu
You know the bit I mean...when the creepy shadow of the vampire is seen on the wall as he slithers up the stairs...*shudders* It may be black and white but it scared me to death as a kid and it still gives me the creeps.

2) Jaws
Remember the bit when Hooper goes under the boat to check the hull and the body with the missing eye pops out? I was seven when I first saw the film and I was screaming when I saw that scene!!!

3) The Fog
When Stevie is in the lighthouse directing everyone away from The Fog as it slithers across town, and she turns around to see it creeping over the hill towards her. It scared me when I was younger but it is a scene I love in the film now.

4) Salems Lot
I still get unsettled by that scene where the dead boy turned into a vampire is hovering outside the boy's window, scratching at the glass and asking him to open the window and let him in. It is just so creepy!

5) Arachnaphobia
You know how scared of spiders I am so the film was unsettling to watch anyway. But it's at the end when they work out where the nest is and the spiders start swarming all over the wall behind the TV! That freaks me out!

6) Snowbeast
OK so it was scary back in the 70's! I was watching it in the dark with my parents as a kid and my dad had shaved his moustache off earlier that day and told me it was running about the carpet and looking to crawl up my leg! I had nightmares about that! Thanks Dad!

7) The Legend of Boggy Creek
Again, not so scary now but I was about seven when I saw this and for years I was imagining Bigfoot eyes peering out of hedges and things growling in the garden!

8) Evil Dead
I always hated the creepy voices that the dead speak in-like the scene where Cheryl is possessed and recites the cards in that creepy voice? I also was pretty scared of trees for a while after watching this film!

9) Demons 2
When the girl is watching the TV show about the demons and one inside the TV just slowly stops, turns his head and looks at her. That scares me crapless and then it starts to come out of the TV to attack her! Note to everyone-never watch it with 3D glasses on! It still gives me nightmares! It's the one film that actually scares me too much to watch it.

10) Halloween
It has to be that classic scene where Laurie thinks she has killed Michael in the bedroom and she's leaning against the door as he just sits up and looks at her! That head turn towards her and the creepy music still give me the utters!

  1. I love these and you make me want to watch movies all day instead of work :) I'd add one of the scariest for me. When Reagan crab walks down the stairs backwards in The Exorcist! Total creep factor.

    1. That bit in the Exorcist didn't really bother me but there is a subliminal demon face that appears at times and scares me. I didn't count it as I never saw the film as a kid because it was banned!

  3. Oh that Jaws scene would have freaked me out at 7! I saw Pet Semetary at a sleep over when I was 8 and I had nightmares for literally years. Other then Jaws I haven't really watched any of these. I watch the occasional horror movie but it is very few and far between.

    1. Yeah it was scary for a kid but I became fascinated by sharks!I used to watch a ton of horror films but time has been an issue because I spend most spare time reading!

  5. I feel like Jaws used to come on TV a lot when I was a kid. I even remember getting 3D glasses to watch it. There were more than a few bad dreams of being lost in the ocean because of it.

    1. I certainly don't go in the water at all so I have sympathy with Brody! I do have Hooper's fascination with sharks though!

  6. I remember seeing Salem's Lot when I was a younger, and I remember it being so terrifying. I ruined it by watching the original when I was older, though.

  7. I don't like the scares but I can say I've actually seen a couple of these! Halloween freaked me but is a classic and Nosferatu is awesome... Creepy but awesome.
