Dog Days Of Summer #9

SATURDAY
So much for my new blogging system! I felt like crap through lack of sleep and have slothed around doing hardly anything! Ugh, not a great start!

SUNDAY
With a week to go until the new football season starts, things are a bit of a shambles here. The positive Covid 19 tests at my football club turned out to be inaccurate-one positive test and six false positives. Seriously, if we can't rely on the accuracy of the tests from these private companies, how do we ever get things running??? What if the tests had produced false negatives and those people ended up out spreading the virus? Someone seriously needs to get a grip of things.

I got a couple of Paddington reviews done, along with most of a prepper post so I suppose that's ok. I'd already done my TTT post for the coming week so I'm back on schedule more or less.

MONDAY
Amazon delivered another desktop shelf unit, this time for my dad. I was able to watch with amusement as he shouted and swore at the thing! It did look like hard work getting the screws into holes that looked too small but he is happy with the overall result. I spent today with Harry Potter films on in the background so I could stay away from the news. My dad and I spent too much time yelling at the TV over the weekend so it was decided that there was going to be less watching of news from now on. We'll either watch films and favourite series or just keep the TV switched off.

I was working on some stuff on the computer today, looking through tons of old files to see what I could delete to get some space back. Tasks like this are mind numbingly boring and time consuming but sadly they need to be done! I also watched the darts final from last night and it was a bit of a damp squib but the overall competition was fun. It seems like ages away for the next darts on TV!

TUESDAY
Today I was hard at work on sorting out clutter in my computer files. I went through the file of books I have stored on the computer and sorted them into genres. That took the entire day and there were books in that pile that aren't on my TBR and I don't even recognise some of them! I'll need to try and sort through the chaff I no longer want to read using Goodreads and Amazon reviews for reference but that is another all day job that I don't have the brain energy for at the moment!

My dad and I have had the TV completely off all day today so we can have a bit of peace and not get our blood pressure up listening to the news. It was actually really great! I was on the computer all day while my dad was sorting through his CDs and deciding what to pile up for the charity shop. After we had dinner, he continued with that task while I sat and spent a few hours doing prize puzzles for one of my magazines. I enjoyed that quiet time!

I did notice that the leader of the Scottish Parliament is trying to tell Scots not to go on foreign holidays, including the rest of our UK. She insists we should all stay and holiday in Scotland to boost the economy that she has been dragging her heels to open. At the moment I am really embarrassed to be Scottish with her in charge. First she accuses the English of stealing PPE (which turned out to be untrue), she threatened to close the Scottish border to stop English tourists coming in, she slags off everything the UK government proposes then adopts their strategy days later, her SNP cronies are at the border with signs telling English visitors to fuck off home and I'm sick of her refusal to except that Scotland voted to stay in the UK in 2014!

If I win the lottery, my dad and I are moving to England away from that anti-English crap.

WEDNESDAY
Amazon has just delivered my new kitchen storage trolley and it feels a lot more solid than I expected, which is good! My dad is now being tasked to put it together for me while I get on with a bit of newspaper cutting for my scrapbook! I do expect more bad language!

  1. I always love reading your updates because I think it's really cool that you always manage to accomplish things each day. I find your goal-setting quite motivational.

We try to stay away from the news, but it's like a train wreck. I can't look away. I'm amazed at least daily at the stupid things that come out of the mouth of our POTUS.

    1. For years I was putting off the small jobs that needing doing and then suddenly I looked around and thought 'this whole house is a disaster!!!' Since then I've wanted to get stuff done and the pandemic gave me the excuse-I was able to use up my panic and nervous energy on something productive!

Yes, goodbye to listening to the crap the politicians on all sides are talking and hello to nice peaceful days with no stress! It's been a week since I watched a news channel though I browse the headlines each day. I only read the odd article online though.

  2. I hear you on the TV! I think I'm better off just avoiding the news too! And the quiet time sounds nice. I've been really enjoying that myself lately too- it's good for the mood!

    1. It just gets your blood pressure up and ruins your day doesn't it! Good for the soul as well. My dad and I are chatting while I blog and he tidies out his cds ready for the charity shop. Today he'll be watching horse racing for the first time in months (the betting shops are open again!) so the peace will be destroyed by the swearing!

    1. It's like an essential part of the building process that there has to be swearing! My dad got two more desktop units so there will be more swearing during the week! I'm the same with my craft projects!

  4. Sorry you weren't feeling well but it does seem like you were productive in other ways.

    1. It's funny but it seems the worse I sleep, the more productive I am the next day! I guess I'm just trying to make sure I don't doze off at the computer! Today I need to catch up on book reviews which will be a riot!

  5. My husband likes to shout and cuss when he's putting things together too. We put together a bbq for our daughter last month. I think I'll just do it myself next time. lol

    1. It wouldn't be DIY without either causing physical damage to our digits or getting something wrong and swearing! My dad loves putting the back on the wrong way every time he does a bookcase and doesn't notice until he's halfway through and has to start again. Then we get some great language!!!

  6. I’m trying to avoid the news again this week, it’s just frustrating. I’ve been keeping the tv off during the day as I need to get all those crappy tasks done like cleaning grout and edging the grass, Netflix wants me to watch it but I wont give in.

    Have a good week.

    1. It's weird how happy we get about things like a kitchen task being done! I was all excited about stocking the new trolley and unboxing cans of ready to drink vanilla latte during the week! Our neighbour keeps glaring at his overgrown hedge and I have sympathy over not wanting to do it!

  7. Ha, glad you turned off the tv. It really does raise blood pressure and when you find yourself hollering back at the propaganda, you know it's time to just cut the cord. Having favorite movies/tv shows running the background is great. I do that a lot when I'm trying to write reviews. Something comforting and familiar just kind of humming along in the background :-D

And I had to laugh at your soccer/football issue. Not because I'm a huge sports fan, but we're having some big issues with baseball at the moment. The season is open but players aren't being responsible and are going to bars, etc in each town they're visiting. So of course, they're getting positive covid tests. Which has the potential to shut a whole team down. And if a whole team goes down, it is sure to happen to more than one and then what do you do for a season of baseball? Just ignore it and keep playing with the teams left? Not likely!

Hope the insomnia backs off and you can get into a good sleeping pattern...

    1. It was really ruining my day, hearing all the arguing and backstabbing of all the politicians and journalists! It was like JUST SHUT UP EVERYONE! I feel better having quiet time or a few favourite films to soothe the savage beast that is me...

I've seen the MLB test issues and it just makes me wonder if those who get paid more to play games for a living have less common sense! Utter muppets! You're right, it could end with the whole league being abandoned. Maybe they should just sack those who can't behave. A few of our overpaid footballers have broken the rules to go partying which is infuriating. These big protests and gatherings could cause more lockdowns in both our countries as well. Oh well I'll just stay home and read!

  8. I've been doing a digital clean up this week. It's oddly satisfying even though the time would have been better spent sorting out the cupboards that are a disgrace, lol.

Wee nippy gets right on my nerves. She gives me a case of the rage every time I see her face on TV down here so I don't envy you having her face on the news as a standard. It's so hard being Scottish when you're not a nationalist and you have to listen to the utter nonsense her and her supporters like to word vomit everywhere... I've abandoned Facebook now as half my family are SNP supporters and I'm so tired of their relentless hate (and it IS hate even when they try to claim it's not) clogging up my newsfeed... :(
